Enjoyable film. I cant believe just how much Jeffery Wright has aged, hard to believe he was once peoples hernandez.

Saw this tonight with the wife. We both loved it.

Cmill, I had the same issue with The Fellowship of the Ring. I made the mistake of reading all three volumes of LOTR again right before watching the first movie. I wasn't able to enjoy what was otherwise a great movie because of it. All I could do was find things they missed and various other inaccuracies. Never doing that again. I can tell you that after that, I enjoyed The Two Towers and The Return of the King so much more, already years after I read their respective volumes.

The ending is one aspect that I don't like that much but other than that it's a good and enjoyable movie, and it's original and of course that's a bonus. I wouldn't be surprised if this movie ends up among my favorite movies of this year.

It's a good film, the changes from the script take away some of the character development but the pacing works given the circular nature of the plot. The film's key to success is in the tightly woven whodunit thriller plot, that cracks along so compellingly it's not until it's finished some of the holes in the plot creep into your mind.

Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan are the other key element in making this work, the nature of the story doesn't allow them much time to garner the audiences empathy but both are so likable they make you invest in the situation that Colter and Christina find themselves in.

Duncan Jones handling of this concept certainly makes me believe he is ready to take on bigger projects and it's a shame he turned down Man Of Steel.

8/10

Jones doesn't like big budget movies. That's the reason why he turned down Man of Steel, and I don't see him making a big budget movie for the forseeable future (I think he turns down Wolverine).

He said he turned down Superman because he felt it was too big for him at this stage.

Saw it last night ,really enjoyed it.

Wow, really loved this movie.
It had great storytelling, awesome performances and I was pretty touched by the end of it.

My only gripe is that as soon as we saw the potential terrorist I absolutely knew it was him! [BLACKOUT]I see the guy run up to this random fellow getting off the train just in time to miss getting blown up and for some reason I had a feeling this was who Colter should track down![/BLACKOUT]

I was very intrigued by how it ended, the possibilities of it were sort of mind boggling and [BLACKOUT]it sure made me feel bad for the dozen or so realities in which the bomb did go off.[/BLACKOUT]

great movie, great sci fi, good performances. I did not expect much from this movie but was blown away. One of the best of the year for me.
i did think though that the big reveal at the end was going to be that it was just Gylenhaals brain hooked up to a bunch of machines and wires and stuff, so the half a body thing was somewhat what I expected
I also felt that the
time and entering someone else's mind in time thing wasn't fully covered, it was like a missing link of me not really fully understanding the complete spectrum of how exactly they were able to pull this off
It's like one giant hole i can't seem to wrap my head around:doh:head hurts:cmad::oldrazz:

I was a huge fan of the show Quantum Leap, so this movie really had me interested. Like someone said earlier, it had a mix of Groundhog Day and Quantum Leap in it. I definitely recommend this movie.

Aside from the overwhemlingly positive reviews, seeing that shot in the trailer of him looking into the mirror and seeing someone else gave me a flashback to Quantum Leap (a show I LOVED as a kid) and that kind of sold me as well to check this out.

:woot:

Just finished it. Enjoyed it. Time travel movies and the concept of alternate realities just do it for me, haha.

So am I understanding this correctly in that Colter does indeed live on in an alternate reality? Or is it like a 'heaven' type of limbo that he now resides since in 'reality' all those people are dead and he is now officially 'dead' just like the rest of them.
I'm gonna side with the former but a little more clarification would be nice.

Shouldn't you put that in spoiler tags, not that hard to do really.

Fine. But I still don't see why its still necessary to do so I mean its not like the movie just came out yesterday...its been out since April.

So what, not everyone sees things as soon as it comes to theatres, or even right when it gets to dvd.

We aren't talking about ruining the tweeeest in the 6th sense or some actually archaic movie, it takes 2 seconds to take the time to put tags, so why even make an issue out of it when having tags ensures that people who rather not have things spoiled keep it that way.

I saw this and I liked it. From the trailers this didnt look that good, but the reviews were great which made me change my mind and see this on DVD. They did a good job. This was really good.

I didnt really like the twist that [BLACKOUT]he was dead the whole time[/BLACKOUT]. But they actually handled it well and I like that they didnt make it [BLACKOUT]an ending twist[/BLACKOUT]

You were making it an issue buddy, not me.

I just posted the way I did under the assumption that those who would even bother venturing into this thread now, would've seen it. Harry Potter's been out for a little over 3 weeks, go over to the thread you see users openly discussing plot points of the film without spoiler tags. Again, under the impression that those who venture into the thread had seen the film by now.

But whatever, its done. I put up the tags anyway. Moving on...

Scott Bakula actually plays Coulter's Dad on the phone as a little homage to that series.

As for your question,

It turns out that the military is wrong and the alternate realities they are acessing and inserting Coulter's consciousness continue to exist beyond their use for them, it was just that Coulter kept dying everytime. Once he managed to surivive and save everyone in the last iteration of reality he went into, he continued to exist. In an alternate universe, all those people are still alive with coulter now inhabiting the teachers body. But yes in our reality, everyone, including Coulter, is still dead. Once you actually think about it though, the ending isn't that happy. Coulter now has to survive as a completely different person, knowing basically nothing about him, his family, what he teaches, where he lives etc. I guess thats why he's so adamant to simply enjoy the moment in the Millineum Park.

Finally watched this last night, a very good movie, Jones is definately a talent to watch as in both his movies so far he gets great performances from his leads, there was some great acting by Gyllenhall in this.

The only thing that dissapointed me was the ending, but I think thats because I initially found it a little confusing, having thought on it more, I have more of a grasp of it but would have preferred a darker ending.

Anyway, another great sci-fi movie from Jones, although IMO this wasnt as good as Moon for me, 8.5/10

Talented, with an understated sense of his own limits (aka humble). I like this guy.

This guy knows where he is at in terms of his own skills. I look forward to when he does handle a big budget movie, as he is definitely interested in doing so.

^Thanks bud, this and Moon now sit proudly in my sci-fi collection, glad guys like Jones and Blomkamp are bringing sci-fi back to the fore as its my favourite genre.

yet i never really understood if the military knew about the realities, or just didnt care. I thought it was kinda double sad becuase in the new reality the pilot was still hooked up to a machine somewhere, so he essentially existed twice which opens the "paradox" as at least a possibility.

Duncan Jones post his production story map to twitter yesterday.

Kind of interesting.

I just finished watching this movie and thought it was great. I really enjoy these timetravel/alternate reality stories. It reminded me of Deja Vu, which is also a great movie.
