Well maybe it's a new model and not the 60s one.

Question to gun nuts: is Bond using a Walther PPK a bit like him using a matchlock musket at this point?
He shouldn't be carrying it. It is not so bad as that, but it just makes no sense.

I thought since TND he's been carrying a Walther P99. He had one in Casino Royale as well, accounting for the reboot.

He last used the P99 as his service weapon in Casino Royale. In QoS he used a PPK and in Skyfall he used both a PPK and PPK/S. In the finale for QoS he used a Sig P226.

Owning both guns...bb guns :o

I have to say, the PPK really doesn't have a great spot to grip. It's a neat little gun, but uncomfortable with two hands.
And why has Bond reverted from a 16 shooter to a 7? :hmm

Because, tradition.

Essentially. There are smaller polymer frame 9mm guns that hold more rounds on the market. PPK's are by no means bad guns but .380 rounds are no 9mm and the gun just doesn't hold enough rounds to make it worth carrying. Hell there are .45 calibre guns on the market smaller than a PPK. Plus striker fire (hammerless) guns have a shorter initial trigger pull and most have shorter trigger reset. Which are two things any shooter wants in a life or death situation.

That's perhaps what I am driving at. The PPK is an old fashioned gun, but Bond is a covertly sentimental and conservative character. Is it feasible that he would continue to prefer the PPK on that basis, or is it too obsolete to really permit that possibility?

I have no problem with it being his personal weapon, but it makes no sense for it to be his service weapon. I love the Q scene in Skyfall, but him giving Bond a PPK/S is hard to believe. As Marvolo said, it lacks the firepower and rounds.

......not good enough :o

But there was no indication of Craig's Bond ever using PPK before QOS - that I'm aware of.

Yeah I can believe it. Gun owners have their personal favorites logic and specs and fbi caliber penetration statistics be damned. M did call Bond a blunt instrument which leads me to believe Craig's Bond could be a pragmatist more than a sentamentalist. But there is a lot about Craig's Bond that shows he is also a sentamentalist. So yeah I think it works for the character. It's not the smartest or most practical gun to carry, but a skilled shooter (which Bond is) can be deadly with most guns.

*But like DS said, it shouldn't be his primary. Personal favorite or not, it's a backup ankle gun at most. Bond should be carrying a 9mm on his hip or in an in waist band holster.

They need to make up a fictional Walther PP with a different designation, so that it can be a more modern version up to the standards of other small handguns.

As someone who knows next to nothing about guns, it's cool to see you guys spreading the knowledge. That's what makes these boards appealing

so gadgets for SPECTRE? do you want to see Connery era gadget and not some silly invisible car or exploding pen......something realistic and handy and won't be detected by screening at airport

Bond is a top marksman.. so when he shoots you in the face with a PPK i dont think you go like "... thank god this wasn't a 9mm" :D

I know she had to go someday, but I'm gonna miss Judi Dench.

I'm honestly surprised that EON hasn't worked with Walther before now. Bond and the PPK are like bread and butter. They could commission Walther to design a new gun for Bond. Even if Walther doesn't want to mass produce it they could draw up the specs and make a mockup for the film.

There was a simple way to solve this issue with Skyfall. When Q gave the gun to Bond he could have said it was 9mm. Boom. Problem solved. It's a fiction film so no one is going to fuss too much that Walther PPK doesn't come in 9mm.

This is key. Anyone who isn't a gun aficionado please don't misunderstand me lol. A .38 to the head will kill your ass dead. A.22 or even something as small as a hornady .17 will too. So it's not that a smaller caliber is useless. It's just less versatile.

Exactly, and I could almost buy that is how they were playing it in QoS. Especially when he decided to go with a more standard Sig P226 for the big action scene. It is funny because in QoS Camille walks around with a tiny Rohrbaugh R9S, which is a 9mm.

I have been missing her since her final scene. She was the one thing I loved even in the Bronsan era. But they did find the one replacment I could never complain about. Fiennes will be a perfect M imo.

is this the most anticipate movie in 2015? or will it be overshadow by AOU and Star wars

I honestly think they like it this way. They are completely in tradition mode right now. They had the P99, which I thought was pretty perfect. They ditched it.

No doubt. But it isn't exactly the best for a shootout or in general when you should be aiming for center mass.

I think Q could say to Bond in Spectre: "The new Walther PPK 9mm handgun. Compatible with modern standards. Better than anything out there." It's not like Walther are going to protest that they don't make such a weapon.

And yes, they should work with EON like Aston Martin do. They can easily make a fictional gun. After all, in Back to the Future 2, there was a fictional hoverboard which wasn't available for mass market purchase.

I am super hyped for this, but the Avengers is the centerpiece of the MCU and The Force Awakens is the sequel to Return of the Jedi. The return of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia. SPECTRE is a distance, but respectable third I'd say.
