It was more about sending a personal message. He wanted to kill M at Parliament...in front of everyone.

He could have blown up M at headquarters.

Yep. He could have killed her in her apartment. If Bond can get in Silva could, but he wanted to send a message.

Pretty damn good but I wouldn't call it the best Bond film of all time. Definitely made up for the last movie.

Agreed. Skyfall lacked something else other than an impressive villain but I can't put my finger on it. Either way, Skyfall was far superior over Quantum.

I loved Bardem in this film but I think he could have been used more.

I thought Silva was a unique villain (and I loved that he had ties to M's past) but yeah, he sort of felt underused. There was so much more Mendes could've done with Silva. Oh well, Bardem still rocked it.

I probably did want more from Silva, but I haven't decided yet if I'm saying that as a criticism of the film - that he was actually underutilized - or if I was just left wanting more.

It was memorable scenes. CR is not even that old but its opening and the construction chase scene are already bond classics. Its quieter moments at the poker table as well left great impressions on the audience.

Skyfall i found as a whole was better than any of its individual pieces. Aside from the silva intro none of the scenes struck me as "this is amazing". The opener itself reminded me of an attempted redo of the construction chase scene from CR but not as well done.

Arrrg, why won't November 22 come already? :cmad:

This was the best Bond film I've seen in a long time. As I walked out of the IMAX theater--and this movie a must-see on IMAX--I had a grin on my face. My friends, who didn't like Casino Royale and said it didn't feel like a Bond film, absolutely loved this one and we were discussing it. I liked Casino Royale, but this was better, more awesome.

The way it was paced made it feel like a Connery-era Bond film. And speaking of which, the way it setup an ending felt like it could've gone right into Dr. No.

Daniel Craig - fantastic. Javier Bordem - amazing. Judi Dench - great as usual. I'll miss her, she technically was my M.

Excellent cinematography and locations. Loved the references. This film will probably top Goldeneye as my favorite Bond film.

I'll have to see this one more time at least in theaters.

Yes we did know the original M's name.It was Miles. It's still unknown If Robert Brown who
played M In Octopussy through Licence to Kill was same M or new M.I am always on side of him being the same M.

Not to scratch any chickens here, but isn't Dench M's real name in the novels meant to be Barbara Mawdsley? And Bernard Lee's M is Miles Mersevy.

M is a title as I understand it, short for something like Minister or something, just like Q is short for Quartermaster.

Perhaps, but why get caught exactly.
[BLACKOUT][BLACKOUT]Like y'all said, killing her in parliament would have satisfied him...was it the personal message of being caught and liberating himself? When Nolan did that in TDK joker actually had alot of reasons for getting caught...I'm at a loss here.[/BLACKOUT][/BLACKOUT]

Speaking of which, I'd be pretty satisfied with Mendes taking on Batman after seeing this, given a script of TDK's caliber I'm fully confident he'd out do nolan.

The komodo dragon fight scene was definitely a Bond thing.

Call me a traditionalist but SkyFall < Casino Royale < Goldeneye
The third act on this bad boy was all sorts of not that good for the audience(me included).

can someone quickly inform me why
Assuming Silva wanted to be captured, he did all of that just to escape, put on a cop suit and try and kill M. Couldn't he have just done that last part on his own?(cop suit included)

For me;
Skyfall> Goldeneye> Casino Royale

Casino Royale > Goldeneye > Skyfall.

Brosnan is my favorite Bond, but I thought Goldeneye kind of dragged.

Famke Janssen was great though.

I liked Skyfall. It's a very ominous movie and my Lord, I felt bad for Severine. Her character was neglected to say the least..

Anyway, I give it between a B+ and an A-. Casino Royale was to better film an Skyfall was the step in the right direction.

The next film will further solidify Craig as the best Bond if it continues in this excellent manner. I feel bad for Barbara and Michael. The pressure has to be so high to continue with this quality.

Also, I read the rolling stone interview with Craig. He was definitely tipsy and his sarcasm with the role was apparent. He seems to be very insecure of himself, which is surprising; at least he is humble and has a self deprecating sense of humor. And my lord, Peter Traver's ranking of the Bonds was beyond ****ed. He ranked Die Another Day over so many of the classic films. Major lolies.

Don't remind me. Berenice was utterly wasted in Skyfall. I had hoped she was given a more significant role but, as we saw, Berenice only continued the tradition of a Bond Girl -- who's only purpose was to supply sex.

Casino Royale is still hands down my favorite Bond film but Skyfall owned Brosnan's last two films and Quantum of Solace.

Just want to point this out:

Sony Pictures, MGM, and Eon Productions just announced that Skyfall, the 23rd and biggest grossing in the James Bond film series, earned another $89.0M million this weekend overseas bringing the international total to $428.6 million. With this weekend’s $90M opening in the U.S. and Canada, the Sam Mendes-directed, John Logan-scripted, Daniel Craig-starring actioner now has an estimated $518.6M worldwide

See what happens when you don't just rush pojects. This whole "sequels must come out in 2 years" mentality just need to go.

I don't agree with that. She was only in a short amount, but she provided a lot more humanity. I felt for her more than many of the main Bond girls in the past.

LoL, let's not pretend like this movie being delayed for so long had anything to do with artistic integrity. The only reason the movie wasn't rushed out was because of MGM's behind the scenes problems.
