James Cameron's "Avatar" Thread v.4

"Family friendly" is this thing they have in some parts of North America where it's okay to watch people getting riddled with bullets, but if they hear words like, "Damn!" they clap their hands over their ears and run to the nearest priest to avoid burning in hell for all eternity. Any mention of genitalia or sexual acts and their brains basically just explode on the spot.

Meanwhile the on-screen violence gets applauded. It's best not to worry about it really.

But in the interests of giving you a practical answer for your audio selection, you can view it like audio track settings:
  • Dolby Digital 5.1
  • Dolby Stereo
  • Mono
There's one there that sane people never click on, unless they're drunk and doing it for a giggle. Just think of "Family" as something like "Mono" and you'll be fine. :yay:

you definitely have a point, but most of us dont' care about cursing either

Also remember, Avatar was:

Directed by a Canadian
Starring an Australian
and beautifully rendered by an army of New Zealand's artists.

but none of them would have done anything if wasn't bankrolled with cold hard American cash.

nah I think people will be pleased over the dvd this time, it has almost the same amount of extras as the bluray. Im shocked that of all people Fox would work on the dvd and not giving the bare bones (but then again they did release the bare bones dvd and bluray early this year)

I hope Amazon has that Blu-Ray during Black Friday sales. I will wait before I buy that Blu-Ray on Release Day :woot:

I read the script, but I meant the new extended cut, theres no indication as to what other new scenes there are, so Im curious.

The deleted scenes are going to be great though. In that video posted above, you can actually see the CG animal interacting with the scene, albeit unfinished CG from the template, but thats a huge step above any other movies deleted scenes I can think of.

And you find this funny why?! :argh::waa:

Dork :oldrazz:

I hate it that we never get all the same features as blu-ray but oh well. At least this release looks to be better than the TDK dvd (yes, i`m still bitter over that one). *crosses her fingers she will be happy with the bonus features in this set*

I believe they prefer the family option because violence is fake...cussing isn't fake. You can't fake words being said. :) Kind of like if a movie has nudity and violence in it...violence isn't real...but when a person is naked on screen, obviously it's not faked.

I don't use it myself...but I certaintly understand the need for the option.

Hi,

It is a matter of point of view / culture. As far as I am concerned cussing words or nudity in a movie as are fake as violence because they are not true, it is an act, a play but again I am French and flesh ( no talking about porn ) isn't as issue for "us" / me ( we can see boobs in soap commercial by example ).
Also I think you can fake nudity, Jessica Alba naked butt in Machete ( the shower scene ) was CGI ( she wore a flesh underware that was doctored ). This is a third hand info so I can't prove it.
IMO, this family audio track thing is a "violation" of the filmmaker vision.

Anyway, I am excited by Avatar BR release, this movie is the reason I will buy a BR player.

also i'm cool with it movie being split in two halves, no different than the lord of the rings extended editions.

So there's no family audio for the extended cut?

Why is he the only one no wearing a funky looking animal mask.

Why is he the only one no wearing a funky looking animal mask.
Because he doesn't give a sh** about himself. The Earth opening pretty much illustrates that Jake no longer has a life worth living on Earth anymore, or at least that is how he feels.
