DC Television James Gunn's Suicide Squad Spinoff ‘Peacemaker’ Starring John Cena on HBO Max

These last 2 episodes were great stuff. Really cannot wait for the finale. Gonna be a while now until the next DC project with Supergirl.
I believe Lanterns will be out at least a couple months before that. No exact date, but "early 2026" is when they've said it premieres.

Seriously, though the reveal with the alternate version of Auggie was pretty surprising and interesting IMO and I wish they didn't kill off as quickly as they did but I get that it was for shock value.

It makes me wonder if the brother will come back for revenge at some point though by somehow coming to our universe
.
In a fairly recent interview, Gunn mentioned that Philip K. Dick's Man in the High Castle had a much greater influence on him than the Earth-X comics, so I inferred that things weren't as clear-cut as they seemed. But I was still a bit surprised that
he used Auggie, of all characters, to convey that.

Really good episode but 31 minutes is way too short. So glad I rewatched season 2 before this episode. Peacemaker is a great binge watch. I don’t think week to week is as effective. The hour long episode finale should be epic!!!!!!

I’m always interested in directors’ influences on these types of properties that are outside of the source material. Man in the High Castle makes a lot of sense in this case. I really need to finish that show. I don’t know why I haven’t gotten back to it in so long.

Also, since Gunn is a fan, I hope Rufus Sewell shows up in the DCU at some point. I was fancasting him as someone recently but I can’t remember who lol. He plays a lot of villains but he’s more interesting when he’s a good guy (or semi-good guy) like on The Diplomat.

The overall storyline has been ok this season for me considering I really dislike multiverse stories. I thought the first season was really good and up there with some of the best comic book shows. But I just feel like Gunn leaned in too heavily to his usual style for my liking. It could also be that the short episodes havent allowed any time for the characters.

That episode 8 preview looks wild. If its Brainiac as villain for MOT i could see a bottling of a city happen. Otherwise honestly no clue where things are headed.

I don't know if he actually watched the show, as he was talking about the 1962 novel that served as the basis for it, but maybe.

P.S.:

I really like how Gunn worked Lex and his henchman into these last two eps. Truly cameos which serve the stories, even in just small ways.

I liked that too. Also, one of the best moments was when you realize just how afraid Happerstein really is of Lex even with Lex behind bars. It shows you how dangerous he really is.

Earth-X Auggie being not a Nazi but a passive, centrist POS happy to get rich off Nazi worship instead is the twist I truly never saw coming.
Makes all the sense in the world if you think about it...

Earth-1 Auggie is a Nazi and evil which is why Chris is the way he is. Earth-X Chris is closer to him as he is violent and a drug abuser so it would track that Auggie would be more "normal". Auggie is the eye in the Yin Yang symbol.

Personally this was my favorite episode of the season.

Damn how did I forget about Lanterns. Here’s to hoping it’s coming when you said.
Yea if its early 2026 as rumoured we might get a sneak peak after Peacemaker finale or Task finale even if only 15 sec segment.

I've been loving the weekly discourse. Having the episode + Gunn & Co podcast + Phase Hero/Midnight Boys, etc, has been a ton of fun to rip through each week.

Much as I would’ve loved longer episodes, especially one as eventful as this week’s, they’ve come out well and shows like The Mandalorian and The Bear have prepped me for shorter runtimes.

At the very least, I don’t find it as offensive as ****ing Stranger Things thinking 90 minutes/2 hours is an appropriate episode length.

Still got my fingers crossed we get a Lanterns teaser next week.

I remember predicting we’d get one with this premiere which obviously didn’t happen, so yeah I’ll be really shocked if we don’t get one for the finale either. It will start to feel a bit overdue soon, especially with the Supergirl trailer reportedly coming within the next couple months.
