James McTeigue Reveals Next Project, The Raven

With the advent of Twitter, casting announcements can come from anywhere, including the stars themselves, which is why it was quite a breakthrough for actor John Cusack to make the official announcement on his Twitter feed that he would be taking on the role of Edgar Allan Poe in James (V For Vendetta) McTeigue's thriller The Raven.

McTeigue for his previous movie Ninja Assassin, and he told us that his movie wouldn't be a straight adaptation of Poe's poem, as much as a serial killer thriller in which the famed horror author would have to solve clues of a string of murders based on his stories. The story would be set in Baltimore during the 1850s

I don't know if I think this premise is a good idea, but Cusack's involvement piques my interest. I think he's a really good actor; not just a likable one.

James McAvoy would have been a good Poe, just based on his look alone, but John Cusack can play anything, so I look forward to this.

So is this film going to be modernized? I just can't see Cusack in a role like this if it's a period piece.

Every legendary, historic name is getting a movie about them, or should. I'd like to see a series of modernized movies about the 300-400 names the really stand out amongst history, against all history.

People don't want new.

Also, I hope he grows an awesome stache for the film.

Old or new shouldn't matter. Good is what should matter.

V For Vendetta is one of my favourites. I told myself I would watch anything James McTeigue makes. Then I heard Ninja Assassin was freakin' terrible and I'm afraid to watch it.

No one, and I really mean NO-ONE, knows the truth to history or any other thing. We really don't honestly know what is 'good.' But doing some freelance research on the biggest names that are in everyones faces and sitting on it for a few years is probably a good place to start to learning the truth about what 'good' is.
-------------

By the way, I do think this movie will be good - for what the 'good' label is worth.

LOLOLOLOL!!!:lmao:

Seriously though, what is your take on history? I'm sure it's a hoot.:applaud

I'm just saying Captain Pretentious, the General Public don't want new. They want Scream 4. They want a remake, of a remake, of a tv show, that was based on a book, so I guess your list of dead guys(and two still living guys) would work. Cuz you know, been there, done that.

The story behind the creation of the Raven is much more interesting than a simple murder mystery. Why in the hell change it up like that?

:wow:There are people who actually wanted Scream 4!?! How many brain cells do they have left?

Enough to hold down a job, to earn the money, to spend it on the likes of Scream 4, Vampires Suck, and [Insert S**ty Movie].

It doesn't take many brain cells to play with money ya' know.

Sh**ty Movie? Is that yet another franchise?

No, I suppose it doesn't.

We could probably come up with the screenplay for Sh**ty Movie in about 45 minutes right now.

Actually, I don't think we'd even need a script. Just lots and lots of money.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. I don't mean to be patronising, but you're going to have to dumb it down for me.

I define 'good' as making a good film. If it does a good job with what it wants to accomplish then it's a good film.

I don't hold it against you, it's not your fault - much.

good = making a good a film

Does that make sense in the broad, grown up version of the truth?

Regardless, if a film actually has a purpose(be it awards or money or viewer praise) and actually accomplishes it - yeah, that's probably a 'good' movie. Most people would take the viewer praise over the other two and that is why that is probably the hardest group to aim for. My advice - people want the truth, show the most truth and you'll appease the trifecta of movie judgement(money-awards-viewer praise) and then some. Just ask yourself one question before undertaking that task - are you sure you know the truth? Or are you just going to make another sh**ty movie?
