Dude we were talking about a solo Aquaman film. There is absolutely no reason a LOTR style Aquaman story cant work. Batman doesnt make this impossible. Youre looking too far into it, people are looking for an escape with comic book movies, quit taking **** so seriously dude.

Aquaman has had his own self contained mythology for a long time so I really dont know what youre talking about.

Youre taking the LOTR similarities too literally dude.

I couldnt fashion a crossover story where Legolas and Gandalf exist in a modern setting because those characters dont exist in the DCU. I could however fashion a crossover story where Aquaman and his supporting cast exist in a modern setting. Probably because its done IN MULTIPLE FORMS OF MEDIA. I really dont know what youre on about
This.

Sounds like the doctor is out...

Out of his mind.

I wish Justice League were being made 10 years ago, I still think Sean Bean wouldve been the perfect Aquaman.

Viggo Mortensen wouldve kicked ASS too

But since both of them are too old now, I present my current choice for Aquaman, Joel Edgerton

I still think Daniel Craig could do Aquaman...
But good idea casting guys who wouldve been good Aquamen back in the day as Atlan

Joel Edgerton is an intriguing choice. I need to watch more of his movies, so I can imagine him in the role.

Yeah of all the current up and coming actors Im aware of, he seems to be the best fit for Orin

But this is the JL (movie) sub-forum, yes? So in addition to speculations on solo films, raising the “compatibility issue” between solos and an ensemble effort is not wildly off topic.

My own feeling is that an Aquaman/Atlantis story that is exclusively “underwater” would be unfilmable. But even if it was possible, it would be so stylized, so “high fantasy” as to be discordant with the approach used for Superman, Batman, Flash, et. al.

Arguably, Aquaman could make an appearance in a JL movie as a “mysterious ally” who helps out in a crucial - but limited - capacity. But under that scheme, the extensive mythology of Atlantis (if it exists at all) would be, for the most part, kept off-screen and remain conveniently enigmatic. At which point, the precedent of/comparison to LOTR becomes somewhat moot.

No one in these forums has seen MoS, or future DC movies at this point in time. Therefore, we can't make assumptions on the stylized or "high-fantasy" aspects of these movies until they've been released and watched. You've already said that an exclusive underwater Aquaman movie would be unfilmable, so perhaps you should expand your imagination before coming to a conclusion... Though, I realize that's your own feelings and opinion. Anything is possible in the cinema business with today's technology. People have said so many movies wouldn't "work" throughout time, yet, when these movies are released people are proven wrong.

Also, I wouldn't be opposed to land scenes that serve the story. I just don't want to see Aquaman staying on land away from Atlantis(New 52), if it isn't in a JL movie. That's just my personal preference, though.

i do think aquaman on land could be a good survival story and really show more of the depth of the aquaman character

He doesn't need to be on land to have depth, he and his underwater world already have that. But he'd definitely be interesting to see on land in a JL movie. I'm not sure what you mean by survival story, though. Aquaman can survive on land, unless you mean in a desert or something. Even so, Llama Shepherd's idea from a few pages back gets rid of that problem as well:

The "badass" Aquaman moment would be, in an attack, he is blindsided and dropped off in a desert due to people not understanding his powers, thinking he needs to be around water. So he slams his trident in the barren ground, the sky darkens, huge black clouds blocking out the sun, and lightning streaking across the sky and a torrential downpour happens, and Aquaman lets loose on Parademons or OMACs or whatever villain there is.

I think a LOTR plus a prince lost story would work! His mother and King secretly get him away from the civil war that is taking place in the nation of atlantis. He is raised by his adopted father, a fisherman living on the coast in a lighthouse! Standard Smallville stuff until representatives from his home land come for him!

Liam Hemsworth is a good choice, but he looks a lot like his brother. If he were to go blond and shaggy then he would probably look just like Thor....

I know this guy is young, but I like his look.

I say Norman Reedus for Flash. He has a lean frame that would represent the character better than Aquaman.

Joel Edgerton for Aquaman. Thats some perfect casting right there.

Nikolaj Waldau for Green Arrow.

Actually Reedus, Humman or Joel Kinnaman for Green Arrow!

Nicolaj Coster Waldau is my Aquaman pick for, like, forever! Though I must say Joel Edgerton has a much intriguing bearded look! And I love him as an actor too.

Random, but related to Aquaman himself, as the sexiest superhero.

"Whether sporting a water hand, no hand, a shaggy beard, hipster sideburns, an interesting but ultimately unmarketable blue swirley costume, or a tasteful line of coral-derived non-conflict jewelry, Aquaman just has that boy-next-door quality (if you happen to live next door to an ocean) that is simply timeless."
:oldrazz:

Just ignore their fancast of Channing Tatum at the bottom. :o

New suggestion... I mentioned him for Batman a while back but I also think he's got a great look and presence for Aquaman. Philip Winchester of Strike Back and Camelot. Great actor, lot of intensity, and built like a tank:

Thanks! I think Aquaman's problem is that people can't shake the image of the silly cartoon version of him out of their minds. But if you get an actor who just oozes badass like Winchester, I think it could rewrite everyone's opinion of the character.

With some black hair dye, Winchester might make a good Batman.

But kudos to the Aquaman suggestion.

Thanks, and yeah... I think he could make a great Bats too. Or Bond.

I'll say no to Winchester as Batman. But I can definitely see him as Bond at some point.
