Jay Hernandez IS El Diablo

Love the exchange between him and Deadshot. He is the guy everyone underestimates because he's quiet and doesn't talk too much but then kicks ass like you've never seen it before.

I think he's trying to suppress his powers in order to stay out of trouble, similar to Banner.

With each new trailer, Diablo is becoming one of my most anticipated characters in the film.

I'm hoping he doesn't die! I'm actually growing fond of him thanks to the trailers! Plus he's the first Latino hero/villain being used in either the DCEU and MCU and thats awesome! Not everyday we get to see Latinos on the big screen.

Yes celebrate we have a latino character on film.

But keep in mind he's clearly set up to die.
It's in the name of the film, so a few of them need to go.
The most obvious are Slipknot & Diablo.
The first clue should have been when they cast roles for native American and a Mexican American.
The harsh disgusting reality here is they are only cast for film because they are expendable characters.

That said, I love the expendable theme of the Squad, it's what makes this group of anti-heroes, heroes. Knowing they are there to die, it's what makes it work, the character role is important, I like the El Diablo character, despite having every horrible cliche about latinos foisted onto one character. He seems like the one guy legitimately seeking redemption, to do that he has to die doing what's right. It's in the nature of the character.
I'm ecstatic to see him on film and hoping he is a character you can root for, till hopefully his epic yet predictable end.
That he isn't just punked (see poor slipknot for that). I appreciate the arc (despite however horribly cliched it is) of a salvatrucha looking gang member trying for redemption, to do something right with the last moment of his life, it's tragic and powerful, a great theme and character rooted in some truths, that should be explored.

That said as you watch the film and celebrate the inclusion of native american and mexican american the harsh irony shouldn't be ignored, If they were looking for long term characters , they would not have cast those roles.
They are only there because they needed characters who they could kill off.
They are not the characters you get to follow to other great adventures.
That truth shouldn't be lost on anyone.

Pretty sure the opening shots of the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer were from the end. You'll note El Diablo is among the squad members from those shots.

Aren't the "opening shots" of the Rhapsody trailer in prison, as the characters are introduced and they give the reason for the mission and assemble the team.
Then they are all dropped in the city. None of those shots are "from the end" LOL!

“As a lesser known member of the squad, there wasn’t as much anticipation and there wasn’t people saying, “You’re veering off doctrine.’” Hernandez laughs. “There’s a certain level of freedom that I thought was great.”

The star, who has recently been appearing on Syfy‘s The Expanse, commends DC Comics fans for their response to Suicide Squad so far.

“There’s an audience of fans who are wildly excited about it,” he says. “They’re committed to the process and the making of the film as much as we are. DC fans want this to be a success. That’s powerful, man.”

If, where and when El Diablo might appear in the DCU after Suicide Squad remains to be seen, but Hernandez is excited about helping to build a massive cinematic universe.

“Suicide Squad is the next step,” he says. “Everything starts somewhere and is going to end somewhere. I think this is that next step in the evolution of super hero movies… [There are] characters from the other movies that have come in onto our project. It’s interesting because, as a filmmaker and as a writer, you have to make it make sense. You have to find some way to infuse characters that aren’t really part of the narrative, but still have it make sense and have it not just be this weird piece where you’re setting up the other movie. It’s fluid and it has to feel right.”

Hernandez credits his director with connecting the DCU dots and says that David Ayer demonstrated a remarkable ability to get at the heart of each and every Suicide Squad team member.

“Everyone kind of discovered who we each were throughout this process,” says Hernandez. “As things would come out about certain individuals — stuff that [David] did not know — would just be so perfectly connected to the character they were playing. How did he know that before he ever heard this story? He’s f–g intuitive. Somehow he sees qualities in people that come from something and he knows how to use that to get at the character he’s trying to put out there.”

You sure about that, chief? I mean, you certainly could be right, but stuff like Deadshot looking out his window all despondent, El Diablo snuffing his flames, Boomerang yelling about being let out - that seems like it would all come after the mission's ended.

I wonder when this shot of El Diablo lands in the movie, because he is also in another cell.

I think, that's a transporting container.

I honestly don't think El Diablo is going to die. It's just a hunch i have from seeing all the merchandise and promotion going on for the movie.

I also don't think he'll die just because he was a main in the N52 SS. But who knows what the movie will do.

Based on the trailers, I think the first is his "normal" cell, while the latter was some kind of temporary containment used to transport him to. . . presumably the desert outpost thing?

He's a cool character with an awesome power set so I hope he gets flashed out in the movie!

Am I the only one that is hyped and looking forward to seeing El Diablo in this movie!! I always thought fire powers were pretty cool!

Got a feeling he'll be the most sympathetic character in the movie.

That's what I'm thinking too. Then again I am a huge sucker for characters with fire or water based power sets. Plus Diablo was DC's first super powered Latino to my knowledge so it makes sense he is the DCEU first Latino character with powers.

Given his general demeanor in most of his scenes, I almost wonder how he ended up imprisoned in Belle Reeve. He doesn't have the same "caged beast" feel to him that most of the other prisoners do.

Well in the comics he accidentally killed an apartment full of men, women and children trying to kill a rival. He lost control of his powers I believe. He's been trying to redeem himself so maybe he volunteered to be locked away? My knowledge on Diablo is kind of scarce though

That would fit with his demeanor in the trailers, certainly, and would give a good dynamic for the movie, with him at a middle ground between the more heroic "minders", and the more solidly anti-social Squaddies.

Definitely! Chato is a character that is all about redemption. I wonder if they went with the whole being possessed by a spirit of vengeance or just made him a meta human. I feel like the latter is easier to incorporate in a movie, especially since Echantress already went down that route.

Someone on Facebook claimed to have went to an early screening and what he said about Diablo has me eager to see the movie now.

I think it could be cool of if they didn't hold back with magic and the supernatural as there is already going to be plenty of it, enchantress (and maybe incubus), katana's sword soul taker, tattooed man, and Diablo would be a welcome addition to this list.
