BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 1

Although Heath's joker was true to the spirit of the character, his appearance was a departure from the comics; he wore makeup, he had scars for a smile, he was just generally more gothic than we were used to. Ask yourself what is the spirit of Lex Luthor. Brilliant, wealthy, power hungry, obsessed with beating Superman. He doesn't need to be strong. He doesn't even need to be bald. Those are superficial attributes. There's still plenty of room for Eisenberg to inhabit the spirit of the character just as Heath did IMO.

I'd say if you look at the whole history of Luthor in the comics, the overall spirit of him is a brilliant mind, power hungry and obsessed to beat Superman. The wealthy part didn't really come in until Byrne's reboot. But yeah I get your point. :)

From variety reporter: No exact details but late last week I has heard Warner's may want to move on cause of Phoenix's long decision making process

I think this is the only casting where the Ledger argument makes sense.

Ledger was the gay cowboy, Oh No!

Jesse is the short nerd!

Fanboys will be put in their place.

Some fanboys aren't even opposed to this casting though. Seems that the supposed fanboy meltdown is being magnified a little.

Heath Ledger had a respectable height and weight.

Eisenberg does not.

Don't compare orientation to physical appearance. One is easy to make up for while the other is damn near impossible because we can't inject bone growing tissue to grow taller and wider.

The Heath Ledger is invalid in this case.

As have I the last... oh, few years; since TDK days in 2006.

I date back to the before times...when Keaton was cast as Batman...comic fans flipped...he's now considered one of the top 2 Batmen

And as we all know, every "out of left field off the wall" casting choice works out 100% of the time.

Too bad Joaquin Phoenix probably hates filming blockbuster/generic films.

I highly doubt that. He's a class actor. If the role has real substance and an actor's director was attached, there's no reason why he wouldn't consider it.

He was in M. Night Shyamalan's Signs and The Village FFS.

Did you actually bother to read what the comment was about? The original poster explicitly said Marvel fans were responsible for talking bad about the casting without evidence to back up his claim. This kind of generalization can easily lead to DC vs. Marvel wars.

I must have missed it. And honestly I'm actually surprised this was directed to a DC fanboy. I thought most people on these forums dislike Marvel fans.

Yeah, the Ledger argument isn't "OMG, this is different from what we were expecting, so this will be the best thing ever!" It's more of a "Shut up, we've been here before, this isn't the end of the ****ing world."

I agree. I don't think this is the worst thing in the world that could have happened to Superman/Batman. People need to calm down, step away from the computer and breath

Weight can be gained and isn't necessary for the character anyway. Height can obviously be manipulated in film; it's done all the time.

So because someone has a strong opinion on this subject you'll give them an infraction because you disagree with them? What kind of forum is this? Constructive ccriticism, even if harsh, should be allowed so you can really see how people feel about this.
How in the world is this constructive criticism? Don't jump into a middle of a discussion without knowing what it's about. This is the post I was referring to.

"Are the Marvel loving/DC hating trolls hating on this casting also?

Posts like that will absolutely be reprimanded accordingly. People are welcome to express their dislike with this casting decision all they want. Throwing disparaging comments that will ignite a flame war are not.

There's a difference.

Oh, Richard Ayoade, you fox! Diverting attention away by suggesting you're in the running for Lex Luthor, when the real Lex was sitting right next to you all along!

Notice how many times Eisenberg blinked when Ayoade(?) was talking about Lex.

There's a flipside to that coin.

"Oh but Ryan Reynolds was amazing in Buried... give him a chance!"

Nah, I'm like 85% sure Elijah Wood and Martin Freeman are 4'.

Camera tricks! Boom. lol

I actually have no problem with his height. It is all bout the script and acting.

He is an academy award nominated actor, he must be doing something right.

Wear a recognizable hat or something so that I can make sure I sit somewhere behind you. ;)

I sit all the way in the back...and usually eat a big beef burrito

True but the fact he's interested and did a film with Ben & has a good relationship with WB, doesn't mean he couldn't give him a call.

But we don't actually know if Cranston was even in WB's considerations. You could have the best relationship with a movie studio and they still might think you don't fit their concept of a character.

Also I checked the Rock's instagram and I didn't see any photos where he would have the hashtag #johnstewart.

I will say, the Rock should be John Stewart. The Rock saves franchises. GI Joe 1 was ****. Rock does GI Joe 2, it was an improvement. Nothing great but decent. Fast & Furious 4 was ****. Rock does Fast & Furious 5 and it's great.

The Rock saves movie franchises. Now he's gonna save Green Lantern.

I admit to being a bit hyperbolic, since I thought there were more than 1 instagram photo with #johnstewart.

and I will be the first person throwing feces at the screen if it's bad...but right now we don't know

Then I would like to see the people declaring it a great idea also exercise the same level of wait and see always shoved in the faces of people who aren't always fans of casting choices like these.

Oh wait. That NEVER happens. Carry on.

Some fanboys aren't even opposed to this casting though. Seems that the supposed fanboy meltdown is being magnified a little.

It always is. Always.

If the majority like it, they'll **** all over the minority with "lol nerds/fanboys get out of your mom's basement".

I myself was cautiously optimistic about Ledger. Just like I'm cautiously optimistic about Affleck.

I remember seeing that Tweet but do you at all know what photo on his instagram that could have come from?
