Although Heath's joker was true to the spirit of the character, his appearance was a departure from the comics; he wore makeup, he had scars for a smile, he was just generally more gothic than we were used to. Ask yourself what is the spirit of Lex Luthor. Brilliant, wealthy, power hungry, obsessed with beating Superman. He doesn't need to be strong. He doesn't even need to be bald. Those are superficial attributes. There's still plenty of room for Eisenberg to inhabit the spirit of the character just as Heath did IMO.
I'd say if you look at the whole history of Luthor in the comics, the overall spirit of him is a brilliant mind, power hungry and obsessed to beat Superman. The wealthy part didn't really come in until Byrne's reboot. But yeah I get your point.
