BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 10

Different takes on Luthor are fine, but this one doesn't feel far removed from one we've already seen.

So about that whole Lex/OS thing.

If you didn't know that he was playing Lex and you saw him in this trailer...would you know it was Lex?

I'm wondering if Lex referring to Superman as both a God and the Devil represents some sort of paradigm shift for him. Like maybe he goes from seeing himself as the Devil trying to kill God to realizing that Superman is the actual Devil. I could see Lex at film's end coming to the realization that he's actually God and is the real hero of the story.

I was one of the people who supported this casting but yeesh, I didn't like him I this trailer. He's really no different than Hackman's nor Spaceys Luthors.

I am actally surprised at how much people like Jesse in reaction vids. He gets laughs and has some great lines.

The moments when Lex does show his dark side in the film will really hit home and make people take notice I think.

I'm not particularly surprised. Less preconceived notions and thoughts of "Oh, Lex has to be _____". Much of the annoyance with his portrayal I've seen is coming from the people who were probably fancasting the likes of Cranston or Mark Strong in the role awhile back.

I think a lot of that comes down to how we feel about Lex's portrayal in film so far, we've seen the more jokey Luthor every time so far and largely wanted a departure from it, so I think a lot of the disappointment is rooted in that. The audience outside of us has less issue with these things, and most of them didn't see Hackman and have forgotten Superman Returns even got made, so it won't feel tired to them. I think the humorous approach they're taking is gonna be a delicate balance. I do feel like part of the problem with the past portrayals in film that I've seen people ignore is the people working for him, his henchman in the Reeve films and Returns were idiotic airheads, which took a lot of the menace away from Luthor when he surrounds himself with morons. I think in the grand scheme it'll go a long way if the people working for him aren't portrayed as such.

Shrug, I don't see any red flags with Luthor yet. Yes, he doesn't act how I expect, but subverting expectations is part of Lex Luthor. I'm also reminded of Daredevil, where the Kingpin wasn't really the Kingpin until the last episode.

I'm firmly in a "wait and see" position. Wig is super crap, though.

I'm really curious as to whether it's a wig in-universe or if it's supposed to be his actual hair.

It's a wig, duh... how else is he supposed to dramatically throw his hair at Superman? :o

I hope it's a wig so Superman can make fun of him for choosing to wear it.

He'll have the wig ripped off when his ass is thrown in jail for creating a weapon that could potentially destroy ISIS in one blow and having freaks dressed as clowns kill it :o

I did want corporate Lex and more serious. However, we need to see the movie to know for sure exactly what we are getting! There could be more to this persona, and when he goes bald it could be more than a visual change. :o

This is how I felt. I was hoping for something similar to Rosenbaum's Luthor from Smallville.

He's been virtually flawless on TV.

John Shea, Michael Rosenbaum, Clancy Brown

All great Lexes.

Gene and Spacey could have been great, but they hammed it up way too much.

The animated Lex still had humorous moments. Like his secret bunker being under a barber shop. "Noone will think of looking for you here Luthor".

Thing is... You already HAVE that version don't you. Whenever you want to see it, its available. So... Why not have Jesse's Lex in a movie? Better yet... Wait to see the film before deciding your hopes are crushed.

I think the Lex we've seen is how Lex acts when he's winning. He's done the hard work and come out on top but once he loses and has nothing (again) he'll be his cold calculating self.

I think what we are seeing is what we'll get. Even if he's different when he's down on his luck, he's still a clown when he's on top.

That's a good way of putting it.

Doesn't matter if we already have that version. It's something that I wanted to see again from a different actor. And my hopes aren't crushed. It's just based off what I've see so far from Eisenberg's Lex, I'm not impressed. The film could change my mind by the end. We'll just have to wait and see.
