BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 8

I think it would be like watching Lex Luthor played by a bald but mediocre actor.
Couldn't he have picked a better actor? I can't believe that there are people who still wanted a Z-list ham like Billy Zane to play Lex Luthor.

You have great actors like Spacey and Hackman previously playing Luthor and you believe that Billy Zane is a suitable replacement. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but no, that's as bad as Scott Atkins playing Batman.

I wouldn't go quite that far...

The fancasting of Lex Luthor has traditionally involved a single criteria: baldness. It's as if WB couldn't afford a razor.

I remember a similar phenomenon with Black Mask. The single criteria was that the actor must be black. Of course, this was before Black Mask turned up in videogames, so these lifelong Batman fans were unaware that Black Mask isn't black!

I haven't seen a lot of Eisenberg's stuff, but I like the idea of a Luthor who appears physically weaker and more frail than Superman, even if you don't consider his powers. Cavill will probably dwarf Eisenberg (at least in size, I have no idea how their height compares), so it visually conveys the idea that Luthor isn't winning this one in a fist fight. Will help emphasize the "mind over muscle" aspect.

If we get a scene like this. Oh my Zod.

After seeing the Lex picture and hearing his voice in the trailer I still hate this casting choice, as a saving grace it seems his dialogue will be well written at least.

I like what little can be heard in the teaser... still not fully on board with the casting choice even though Jesse is a capable actor. He will probably nail the hipster/genius role but I generally don't care about Luthor as a character, aside from Spacey's iteration.

Yeah Jesse's voice still just makes him sound like an arrogant effeminate teenager.

Which is what I was worried about.

I remember Mark Strong was rumored for Lex, I still believe he would have been a fabulous choice. Strong is older than Affleck and Cavill, but Strong looks like he's in his early 40s; he surprisingly ages gracefully.

I personally don't like the Snyder's Zuckerberg interpretation of Lex; he's beyond a Zuckerberg. LexCorp covers beyond such trivial things as facebook; it covers many divisions of technology, science and innovation. Personally, there are levels of intimidation, depth and range in Lex Luthor's character that I don't think Eisenberg is capable of as an actor. I know I'm going on very little, since maybe Eisenberg was the best actor for the story they wanted to tell, and he may very well work out, but I just think it's an odd choice. Lex Luthor is arguable the best DC villian, and it a little disappointed to me that would go for the polarizing actor for the rest of the DC universe rather than an actor that could best portray the comic version.

But Eisenberg is the guy; and as a fan, all I can do is hope that I am wrong, he plays an amazing Lex that makes the movie better. I don't like the voice, but I have to see him as he talks, as well as the context of his character in the world and story.

Very peculiar casting for a Zack Snyder film, usually his cast choices are just spot on, and I found myself never arguing them(at least until I saw them on film); this one seems a bit oddly cast from the start.

Mark Strong and Jason Clarke were who I'd have picked.

Jason Clarke would have been a good choice. Personally, I'd have been dozens of actors before Eisenberg, he just doesn't have much range. But I guess we'll just have to live with their decision and hope to be proven wrong.

Lex's dialogue and the way Eisenberg delivered it was ace. More excited than ever now to see his portrayal.

His delivery was great, agreed. Definitely not Zuckerberg.

Very true. It is amazing how unimaginative and shallow those fan-casts tend to be. Some people might think that certain WB's castings for these films are bad and that's their right, but the fact is that WB never came nearly as close to those horrible fan-castings.

I am very glad that "fans" don't have a say when it comes to those films.

To each his own. I thought he played his character well in Titanic, and enjoyed the Phantom for what it was. There have been plenty of movies where an actor can do well and then have many flops only to redeem themselves. But, hey everyone has their own opinions, nothing wrong with that.

Fan casting is always one of these 3 guys should play everyone

Bryan Cranston
Michael Fassbender
Benedict Cumberbatch

Eisenberg sounded legit in the trailer, his hate of superman could be felt in his voice, its great

To each his own I guess, I always envisioned Lex to be a guy in great shape who is intimidating both physically and mentally and who just oozes charisma and charm. And with Eisenberg I just don't see that from his voice to the way he always seems jittery and nervous.

That's certainly a popular version (the animated series springs to mind immediately), but this is clearly something different. Would I have preferred the "peak mental and physical" Luthor? Maybe, but given what they seem to be doing with this movie, I think Eisenberg seems like a decent choice, at least visually. How it all plays out, I have no idea, but I can't fault it as of yet. His dialogue in the trailer matched the kind of things I would hope Luthor would say about Superman, and his delivery seemed fine to me. Different, but fine.

Oh man, I kept thinking about Bryan Cranston (and I still think he'd make a fantastic Lex), but I never thought about Mark Strong! Strong would be amazing!

Mark Strong is such an underrated actor; probably because I think the man should fire his agent. I think that Strong has been in a lot of crappy stuff as of late, which is a shame. He's better than that.

Sounds like a kid to me. Would have prefered someone older than Cavill, on his early 40s.

The more I see it, the more perfect of a trailer it is.

It spends almost equal time on both Superman and Batman. The first half is all Superman intercutting between a dolley towards the statue of Superman and actual scenes of Superman. The second half starts with a dolley towards Bruce uninterrupted and then followed by quick cuts to actual scenes of Batman.

A graffiti-ed statue of Superman and Bruce Wayne:

The former representing the extremes of public opinion toward a superhero and the latter representing the true nature of a superhero.

I think I might be reaching here lol

We'll see how Jesse plays Lex's various levels in BvS, I cannot imagine him being the same role by the end of it... will be remain a silent but powerful manipulator or will they give him a power suit to go along with his (damaged) ego?

Hearing his little "speech" in the teaser and looking at that photo of him just gives me the feeling that that's his "Public Voice". The nice, quiet tone of his voice is just for the media. Behind the curtains he might talk a bit deeper, more straightforward, not holding anything back.
