Just seeing what could have been makes me really happy with what we got.

So you dont think Stolls' look could have made a good Lex? I know this is a more typical Lex-type look, but he gives a stronger visual presence to me than Eisenlex from what weve seen so far, be it just from just one bad image. I was just hoping they'd sell the skeptics and even the GA on the choice of Eisenberg for Lex. The wig image just falls very flat to me. The black and white bald image did a lot more for me honestly.

Lex isn't supposed to be physically threatening. He's supposed to be intelligent.

I suspect the popularity, and design, of the animated Lex Luthor Clancy Brown voiced has largely twisted fandom's perception of what the character is.

To me the reason why characters like Luthor and The Joker are more enduring than say Doomsday or Bane (to a certain extent) is that whilst their physically outmatched by their main foes they compensate by having the kind of intelligence that people who seriously consider pulling the crimes they do should have in order to get away with them.

I've said this before but the casting of Jesse seems right in a way as Luthor isn't a man one should admire whatsoever and an actor who previously got across to audiences what a wealthy and intelligent but soulless man really is in THE SOCIAL NETWORK is a perfect choice.

Some items in the room seem to be in storage- note the cloth coverings at the front. That makes me think that it is a room in the apparently half-derelict Wayne Manor.

Absolutely, it looks like Wayne Manor a lot more than any other place, I wonder what the two are discussing? Superman? Maybe Bruce is in the cave working and Lex is talking to Alfred?

I feel sure that there is supposed to be something cryptic in that image. The bat-like griffins and the one legged horse, as well as the rather cacophonous painting, all seem like a trail of symbols.

I also note that, if this is Wayne Manor, Bruce appears to have taken to drinking- another link to The Dark Knight Returns.

I've played Silent Hill since 10, and I've really thought of myself as a pro in cracking and understanding symbolic meanings...but this has me pretty stumped :hmm

:funny:

Let's go over it. A bizarre looking painting. It's abstract. An angry looking, hazy, lost mess.
The griffin heads. Two monsters facing eachother...The Batman AND Bruce Wayne personas facing eachother in some kind of internal conflict? :hmm
The horse. An animal representing freedom and spirituality...crippled with only just one leg holding it up.
Booze, it dulls the problems of the mind and releases you from the nights of stress... to put you right back where you were the next day and in some cases, feeling worse than what you were feeling before.

That's all I've got :p

There is a horse figure. It's broken because it's old and Batman don't have no time for horse figures.

There is some booze. It's good. It's good to drink. The decanters are half empty.

There are some griffin things. There are two of them. Batman has two griffin things.

The two bat-monsters are facing in opposite directions, but also facing each other. It might mean something about Batman having two natures which are in confrontation, or else that he has to make a crucial decision that could set him on the path to two very different fates. As Lex is there, he probably has a role to play in either or both of those fates. The painting, to me, looks like some kind of depiction of the descent into hell, which could apply to a Faustian choice which Lex is offering. The drinks tray could be illustrative of Bruce's crumbling health and resolve; the lamed horse could symbolically mirror that motif, though the fact it is still standing erect hints at Bruce's ultimately indomitable spirit.

Isn't this fun? :)

All these figures of hell, the temptation of alcohol, the maimed horse and Lex standing right in front of it...could he be like the devil in this? :hmm

I'm betting his line in the teaser will be even more literal and ironic when we find his office in Lexcorp is practically touching the sky, along with Superman :hehe:

It crossed my mind as well. I surely hope it is not the case though. One of the more otherwordly traits of the character I've always respected is his ability to not drink alcohol.

Agreed. He only started drinking in TDKreturns because he was retired and bored. But it seems that in this movie he's still active.

Or it's just there for show. Bruce is a teetotaler, but he doesn't broadcast that fact, although he encourages and promotes Bruce Wayne the playboy's reputation as a party boy.

Nobody was saying he has to be physically threatening. But he's never appeared so... dorkly in the source material.

He's usually written as being suave and somewhat charming.

I wonder if the suicidal aspect of TDKR Bruce will appear - meaning something like the opening segment with the racing car.

Fingers crossed JE can pull it off, im on the fence about him so far.

Based off of Ben's quotes about him being at the end of his life, I'd say that's a fair thing to say.

He picks a fight with Superman.... isn't that suicide enough? :cwink:

Did I miss some info? That's Wayne's domicile for sure? I thought they said the mansion was in disrepair and that word was that Bruce was living in a lake house on the estate property with access to the cave? Lex also looks pretty comfortable in that pic. I'm more inclined to think that place is Luthor's. Unless again there was some concrete info about it being Bruce's home?
