Jessica Biel (upcoming The A-Team) is set to star in The Tall Man, which will mark French director Pascal Laugier's English-language debut.

In the suspense thriller, Biel plays a woman who must grapple with and track the mysterious figure of The Tall Man who has kidnapped her child.

Laugier, who also wrote the film, says "I like to think of 'The Tall Man' as a sort of Panic Room... outside! It is a 'woman in jeopardy' movie with a lot of twists and a strong female character that you feel very connected to."

The $15 million-budgeted film starts shooting this September in Vancouver.

Could be a good strong role for her.

I loved Laugier's Martyrs, so I'll be checking this out. Shame that he didn't get to do the Hellraiser remake.

Sounds pretty cool but when I saw the title "The Tall Man" it had me thinking of the movie Phantasm. :hehe:

I'm sure everyone thought that when seeing this article on sites, thinking nor another remake.

And I don't know what to think after seeing Martyrs. God, whew! That movie is just f'ed up in all ways imaginable.

Not directed but wrote, which according to how both you and TAC responded, it's not good either way.

He wrote and directed Martyr's, hopefully this redeems him but I am now a whole lot less interested.

Uh, Pascal Laugier did write AND direct Martyrs, which is one of the better horror films of the last decade.

You may think so and that is your right but I thought it was one of the most vile, repugnant heaps of garbage I have ever seen, and it made it worse by trying to justify it's souless existence with a bunch of nonesense. I wouldn't dignify it by calling it a horror.

May I ask exactly what was this film about and what was so horrible about it? If you have the time just PM me so I dont sidetrack this thread too much.

Now people wanna talk about Torture Porn. That movie is the real deal. Especially the last part. Its like after you get done watching it, you're like what the F**k did I just watch.

For the last 30 minutes or so this poor
woman gets the holy hell beat out of her and then at the end of the movie finally gets skinned alive and is still alive to a certain aspect. So the so called other "torture Porn" have nothing on that.

That's a quite a strong reaction. You could repeat to yourself over and over: [BLACKOUT]It's only a movie. It's only a movie.[/BLACKOUT] :cwink:
But yeah, I can understand why other people didn't like it. I for one, like it a lot, and some of the other French horrors as well.

I prefer High Tension and Frontier(s)

It didn't scare me or worry me if that is what you mean, I am not squemish but I saw no point in what was done other than sick sadism, to me that does not take talent or skill, the only redeeming thing for me was the acting of the two female leads which was good.

Oh, no. I didn't think that. I didn't know what to think after the movie, because of the second half, which was just [BLACKOUT]beating of the other girl[/BLACKOUT]. I was like; "I don't wanna watch that. I don't enjoy that.", but you weren't supposed to enjoy that. That was the point. And after thinking about the movie for a day or two, I declared it a good movie, and of the best horrors of the last decade, of course in my opinion. I just liked the crazy ending, and the first half was just damn good. It was pretty damn effective in the theaters.

I thought of turning it off a couple times towards the end, like you said I don't get squeamish much, but kept looking at the time and thinking is this all the movies gonna be? But i stuck it out.

I should have prolly rented it, instead of just buying it. But i got it since I heard it was suppose to be the best thing in a while.

I just don't see the point of exercises in eliciting repulsion, for me great horror is something that thrills you and even gives you the scares as you watch it, but you come out entertained by the thrill b/c the horror aspect is comabated. I switched the movie off simply feeling that I could have gotten the same sick feeling spinning around in a circle and it wouldn't have wasted 90 minutes of my time.

I hoped there was gonna be an escape for the girl, an actual turning point, instead it just went on and on and on with the sadism, then followed through on the stupid mumbo jumbo and escalated the sadism.

I know, I was just like how many times can they really beat the crap her and still actually wanna make people watch. But its the french and their screwed up filmmakers just judging on the few I've seen.

Not really seeing how the seeing how the idea of a mysterious figure abducting children has been around long before the Slender Man.

^ I wouldn't go that far but I also didn't like the film. It just feels something you see as a original movie for the Lifetime channel.
