Oh wow. Garth Ennis telling us all how crappy superheroes are, and how much more awesome his gritty but lovably humorous skeezball characters are. It's like Kev, redone with Tommy Monaghan, without the charm of Kev, and also without the charm of Tommy.

Thanks, Garth. You really know how to take great concepts (The Boys, JLA/Hitman), do some cool stunts with them, and then, just as they're getting good, drive them into the ground with over-the-top, ham-handed anti-superhero commentary. What the hell happened, man?

The stuff he's doing now is still head-and-shoulders better than a lot of crap being churned out, but he's dulling his edge with this whole crusade against superhero comics. He used to tell stories, which made his point about superheroes a lot better. Now he makes his point, and incidentally tells stories.

I don't know. The only thing that really bugged me about this was that Diana and Wally were written very poorly.

No kidding. Diana is not a coldhearted *****, she's Wonder Woman. And Wally never treated Kyle that ****tily.

Well, pretty early on, he did. But, yeah, by the time they were in the League together, they were pretty good friends.

Was he THAT much of a dick though? I don't remember him being quite like that.

I took a look at the cover of this and was like "So it's Kev, except with the actual JLA instead of the Authority."

Actually scratch that. I took a look at the cover of this and was like "So it's a comic book written by Garth Ennis featuring marquee comic-book characters." Everything I figured I needed to know about it I pretty much inferred from there.

If anything I'm just surprised that DC let him write it, but who knows what's up with DC anymore.

Their first teamup was fighting that Sonar guy right? IIRC he was a pretty big dick.

That reminds me, I'm due to start drinking.

Well, Diana and her warrior-stichke was fairly familiar, but Wally was just a dick.

But yeah, definately not one of Ennis' best. Most likely he was just holding back way too much to get anything that wasn't lukewarm from him. :csad:

For a second, I thought this thread was going to be about Agent 47 killing the Justice League...I'm dissapointed.

Holy God, this comic kicked ass. Beginning to end, this was great. Despite Ennis' hate for superheroes and the obvious exaggeration of each character's personalities, I was impressed with how much respect he showed the League.

What's familiar about Diana not believing that feelings are good?

Really? I felt like he communicated the Central Message of All Things Ennis fairly well: "**** superheroes, because the concept of people doing anything remotely good or altruistic is just too naive and passe for an advanced, enlightened, postmodern British guy like me."

Superman came off pretty well and had lots of great lines.

Because Supes is the only hero Ennis actually cares for.

Which is weird, to me. Is that weird to anyone else?

not really...Superman was the frist superhero, so I could see how Ennis would think that out of all of them he may be the only really original, not just following the trend character...

Tommy explains it in Hitman 34. It's something along the lines of Supes being the only true American hero, being a foreign immigrant an all and making his way in a new world.

What about J'onn? He fits that description much better than Superman, as he actually remembers the culture and loved ones he lost first hand.

Yeah, but all those early guys, Crimson Avenger, Batman, Captain America, all those guys may have been following a trend, but they're also some of the most enduringly powerful and appealing characters. They're good characters. If Ennis thinks Superman is the only superhero character worth a damn, he's just trying to invent an axe to grind.
