Jms On Thor: Nooo!!

He didnt deny any of the rest, therefore I will assume hes using all of that. Ass.

Like I said in another thread...

If you had told me this news about a year ago I would've been like, hey great, this is cool.

Nowadays...I dunno.

I'm especially not sure about the premise. Asgard floats above the country in plain sight, forcing gods and mortals to interact? Didn't we just do this?? Yes, it was in New York while this is now in Oklahoma and maybe they can desperately milk some of the more blatant differences in mindset and lifestyle...but come on. At the least, it's not as novel as JMS is trying to make it sound. I just think Dan Jurgens already, brilliantly portrayed the "Asgard on Earth" angle and it's annoying that few people remember this.

I'll check out some issues, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think JMS is approaching the "Asgard on Earth angle" from a different perspective than Jurgens did. Jurgens' story was about the gods' descent into benevolent dictatorship over Earth. JMS' seems to be more about examining the two cultures--mortal and divine--through juxtaposition. It may work, it may not; as you pointed out, Jurgens' version worked exceedingly well and made for, in my opinion, one of the best Thor storylines ever. Whether JMS' will play out as well, we'll have to wait and see. I think one of the major deciding factors will be the reasoning behind Asgard's move to Earth.

I agree Corp. I think JMS is approaching Asgard on Earth more like the Inhumans used to be in a hard to get to area of the world.

Asgard should be Earth bound somehow. I just don't think I much like it being Earth bound in North America of all places, unless they tie it in to the vikings making a journey here so long ago. I think that'd be cool, if it was said that Asgard has always been in that location and just on a different...how should I say....frequency or wavelength?

Well think about this. Oklahoma has ALOT of Native American Reservations. Native Americans aren't that much different from the Viking in their beliefs, why not Oklahoma?
Checkout the movie Pathfinder. It's about a viking boy left behind on a Viking raid here in North America, and is raised by the Natives.

Most Native American tribes were very different from Vikings. Native American cultures were, as a rule, much more peaceful. While they both held honor as a paramount, the Vikings were all about dying gloriously in battle, while most Native American tribes were more about leading a good and honorable life. Of course, there were many Native American tribes, so I'm only going off of what I know about a few.

I was married to a Cherokee 18 years. I'm not saying the natives were raiders, I'm saying their belief's are alot like the Viking's beliefs in many ways.
Both believed in a way of life that you didn't take what you wouldn't use. You killed an animal you used ALL of that creature, not just the meat, skin and disgard the bones. Same for any wood any other natural resouce.
When Lief Erikson came to America they got along very well with the Natives, and if they had stayed and settled here before the English or Spainish, things may be VERY different in America today.

wow, when thor died i was angry but atleast he had a good run, and ended in a decent way, now they are making a mockery of his memory and taking away almost everything that made the character unique and important

Sure seems that way doesn't it? Still, I'll give it a chance before I judge it.

Maybe Loki will have knocked up Gwen Stacy twenty years ago and their evil twin offspring will now be Uncle Thor's main adversaries?

He mentioned that Thor's suit might be altered a bit.

As long as it resembles this, all is good.

The idea of Thor being associated with teenagers just doesn't work for me on any level. .

I'm cool with that. I liked the more practical approach that Greg Tocchini took to the Kirby designs in Son of Asgard a lot. Adult versions of those costumes would work pretty well for the Asgardians, I think, and a Loki costume similar to Esad Ribic's version in the Loki mini-series would work well for him.

Umm, just on a semi related note being a Webhead,

WELCOME TO MY WORLD!!!

Ah. I see. Still, I think the Vikings were more war like.

Why is Marvel allowing this HACK to ruin their flagship franchises?

Oh yeah... Oklahoma (where I'm sitting) does NOT have "a lot of" reservations. It has two or three small areas of reservations. Most of the tribes own their own land and are an incorporated part of the civil and political infrastructure- NOT kept seperate.
Look up Tahlequah as an excellent example of this. It is home of the Cherokee Nation and is definitly NOT a reservation.

Since when is JMS a hack? I thought pretty much everyone loved Babylon 5.

Apparently he can only write characters he created himself. He became a hack when asked the stay true to 45 years of characterization.

That doesn't make him a hack. That just means he's not good with other people's characters. And really, I don't see how he's not good with other people's characters. The only out of character thing I can remember him doing was the whole Sins Past thing, and even that was well written despite it's out of character-ness.
