Joe Carnahan will write and direct
Nemesis, an adaptation of Mark Millar's mini-series published by Marvel Comics through the Icon line. The movie, produced by 20th Century Fox, is centered on Nemesis, the world's only supervillain. A criminal mastermind with seemingly unlimited resources, Nemesis travels the world, selecting the best policemen in service and forcing them to engage in a cat-and-mouse game in which he sistematically ruins their lives before finally killing them. His latest target is Blake Morrow, a Chief of Police from Washington, D.C., against whom Nemesis appears to have a personal vendetta, and who might turn out to be the first adversary to represent a challenge for him.
Michael Fassbender is being pursued to play Nemesis, while Liam Neeson, who worked with Carnahan in
The A-Team and
The Grey, has been offered to role of Morrow. The movie is expected to start filming in the second half of 2013 for a 2014 release date, but this is subjected to change, due to Fassbender's commitment to the
X-Men: First Class sequel; Neeson's ongoing knee problems; and Carnahan's recent deal to direct a remake of
Death Wish.
Other movies based on Millar's works in current developement are
Wanted 2,
Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Walls,
War Heroes,
American Jesus,
Superior,
Supercrooks and
The Secret Service.
