I care about it because I'm an aspiring Actor/Stand-Up comedian who has had one of my bits stolen and used on National Television. I got paid 20 bucks for that night, I don't remember what the ******* made, but it was absolutely maddening.

I'm much like the one guy in the video, and I don't like to name names (I will say that if you aren't really into Stand-up, you probably wouldn't even know it). I've *****ed the guy out, and he's stopped using the bit for any national audiences. He just jappened to be in town when i did it, really liked the bit, and figured (without talking to/asking me) that I didn't take it that seriously. When I saw it on TV, I made a couple of phone calls until I got the guys number and just tore him a new one, threatening to sue and the whole deal.

It's not fright, it's that the situation is now resolved, and there's no reason to name name's. He apologized to me almost immediately, and hell, he even botu my liquor once.

It was a bit I had about people who parked in handicap parking spaces who aren't handicapped. I had worked hard on it to make sure I hadn't copied or borrowed any ideas from anyone else, and the guy realized it was a new spin on it, and needed material for a TV appearance. I do have to say that it was flattering to hear my joke, performed much the same way I performed it, was getting laughs at a national level, but I was still really pissed off about it.

Up until he got his Comedy Central Presents I didn't really have a problem with him. Then he started stealing **** left and right so he deserves to get his ass handed to him (which I had hoped was at the end of the video).

Rogan is alright. Although his heyday was Newsradio. But, you gotta give the man credit for making Mencia look like a fool on stage.

Mencia makes himself look like a fool so it isn't much of an accomplishment. Comedy is about more than creating jokes. It is about timing and delivery. For his intended audience (Which admittedly is rather juvenile.) he does his job better than Rogan. Rogan has no audience. That is his problem. The man has no sense of delivery or timing. He could write the funniest jokes on earth and they would fall flat coming from him. And for the record, I'm not defending Mencia. Both suck, but in all honesty Mencia is just better at what he does...He may not write his own jokes, but at least he establishes a presence, which may be more important in stand up comedy. That is why he is more successful and Rogan resents it.

I'm an artist, and frankly I'd handle it the way you did; offline with some harsh words. I'd probably pull the trigger on a lawsuit, though, rather than just threaten to. The way Rogan and Mencia are going about it comes off as attention-****ing and I don't respect either one of them for it. If some of the people who are up in arms about this didn't know who Rogan or Mencia were, would they even care? I'm guessing probably not.

i had someone steal a couple of my photographs and put them up for sale on a art site once. that sucked, but i got them taken down, and the site was nice enough to compensate me.

In this instance I don't really think it has anything do with celebrity fascination. The idea of someone being popular when they've stolen most of their material from other people is disgusting. But nobody gives a **** because it's Carlos Mencia and Joe Rogan.

I think if it was something similar involving people who are in the public eye more, then this thread would've made twice as many pages as it has thus far.

It sucks but I at least hope no one here is going to lose sleep over it.

Exactly, if this were Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock going at it (I know, two entirely different acts, but they are the biggest names) then this thread would have at least double the posts.

If he hadn't apologized and agreed not to use the bit again I definitely would've brought his ass to court. And while I'm not a big fan of Rogan's comedy, I actually like the amount of a vendetta he's taking against Mencia, and the fact that it's getting this much attention (it's also on CollegeHumor, and now more and more of my classmates are seeing the truth), because it is sickening just how much money he's made off of other people's ****.

It still has everything to do with celebrity fashion, though. Yes, if it were Sienfeld and Rock this thread would be a thousand times bigger. But it's still a dispute involving two lesser comedians with a national presence, so it gets interest. If it were between to amateur standups no one had ever heard of, nobody would care. At all. The Cult Of Personality is absolutely a factor, here.

It really wouldn't suprise me if this were a publicity stunt. I mean, sure it makes Carlos look bad, but he can afford it. And with Fear Factor having faded to obscurity and no one really giving a damn who Joe Rogan is he could definitely use a jump start.
