Dread said:Well, technically, the only reason NEW AVENGERS was made was to get Spider-Man and Wolverine on the team, and to relaunch it with Bendis. What? Marvel having a shallow reason for a new franchise book is NEW? Sheesh, at least half of all the X-books launched for the past 7 years were solely to milk X-fans. Avengers is now as big so Marvel is repeating the process to get as many sales as possible before the bubble inevitably bursts and they have to retrench. In economics, it used to be called "boom and bust".
And I agree about the Wanda situation; I mentioned it in the RETURN OF HAWKEYE topic. I'd have rather she had her first reappearence in YA Volume 2 next year, since Heinberg was leaning towards that. Wouldn't that have been a great hook for the first arc? But, that's too far in the future, let's throw that to Bendis, a top dog who really doesn't have enough bones, what with the "best selling book in the industry", plus a few other titles, plus a role as one of the "Knights of the Roundtable" at "creator retreats" where only the Big 7 writers get to attend. Heinberg in YA SPECIAL seemed to recall when Scarlet Witch was a heroine (one of Marvel's most longtime), rather than an insane, PMS-ing plot device. Plus, Bendis has a mad-on for reviving HOM stuff, since that was his baby. But THE COLLECTIVE did that and half of it was lame. I'm not looking foward to more. For chrissakes, even the X-BOOKS all but tried to forget that DECIMATION happened, that was why much of the fallout had to happen in spin-off mini's. The rest of fandom wants to forget HOM. Move on, Bendis.
And y'know what's really tragic? Brain M. Bendis is pretty much Marvel's top selling writer. He has the #1 book of the company and whatever he seems to want, he gets, because his sales are incredible. He revived DAREDEVIL, launched USM and made it a Top 10 book for years, co-launched ULTIMATE FAN 4, etc. He's their Top Dog Writer, their head ****e in the Bordello of Ideas, the one writer that I am convinced Joe Q and any editor would allow to butcher, maim, kill, or destroy any character or franchise if he wanted so. And not even HE is immune to having his story details ruined weeks in advance by Marvel. Joe Q HIMSELF gave away the biggest shocker from USM #98 at SDCC a good week or so in advance, and naturally that leaked all over the 'net. The lesson? Not even their #1 can keep his stories secret from Marvel's "spoil it for spoiler's sake" solict policy. And then Joe Q makes a joke complaining about how much his own company's solicts reveal? Cripes.
