John Hillcoat's Triple Nine

Three reviews posted to RT so far, all positive.

Those both sound promising at least. RT has a couple of Rotten reviews now so its at 60% but only 5 reviews in so far.

Total Film liked it: http://www.gamesradar.com/triple-9-review/

However the Hollywood reporter review reads as pretty positive but is listed as Rotten???

Read the line under where it say's "Bottom line". That usually sums up the writers whole piece.

Yeah re-reading it it could be taken either way really, its pretty mixed.

Booked my ticket for 12:50pm on Friday.

From what I've read Winslet's character is pretty ruthless.

Yeah going to give this a shot, doesnt sound too bad. Might be a case of style over substance from reading around but thats not always a bad thing.

Amazon UK has the soundtrack up for pre-order on digital. Want to hear that full Cypress Hill ''Pigs'' remix by Atticus Ross so bad.

Managed to see this, overall decent but a bit of a letdown considering the talent involved and the trailers eluded to something much better than the full thing.

All the actors give it their best and there is nothing that stands out as bad, but everything felt flat and by the numbers, none of the action really stood out as anything special or worth remembering. As far as performances go Winslet, Harrelson and Ejiofor were probably the standouts but some (Gadot/Reedus) hardly got enough screen time to be able to show what they can do.

Its one of those films that will entertain for those that like the genre but its not the same league as a Heat or The Town and one watch is probably enough and it feels like a really big missed opportunity with the talent involved, which is a shame.

6.6/10

Yeah, I saw it yesterday afternoon. I gave it a 7/10

It's not breaking any new ground in the crime thriller genre, but I enjoyed it overall. Clifton Collins Jr. and Chiwetel Ejiofor were the stand outs for me.

Winslet was good, but I thought she'd be much more ruthless.

What about that
Michael K Willams as ''Sweet Pea'' tho! :funny:

Damn, I was really hoping for something special with this. Sounds like it's decent, but forgettable. Still plan to see it, though.

Yeah pretty much, there is nothing awful about it but it just doesnt do anything new to elevate it above its pears. If you like the genre though it may be worth checking out.

Triple 9 decent film but as others said nothing that improves this genre particularly. Loved seeing Kate Winslet probably the stand out.

7/10

I wished for something more, pretty put off by the reviews. I know the reviews aren't particularly bad - still something to enjoy. But was hoping for something very good here. Think I will wait until I see it on TV.

I enjoyed it but mostly it felt pretty constipated. I'd give it a 6/10 but it could have been so much better.

So while the movie was being promoted, Mackie and Ejiofor were being paired together. Makes it easier for the interviewers to talk of both of them about their Marvel projects.

I personally thought this film was fantastic. The world they crafted was, in my opinion, very interesting. The way this was shot and built around, it reminded me a lot of HEAT. I read some reviews that seem to have alluded to a similar mentality.

Ever since I saw HEAT, back when I was relatively young, I've always been a sucker for good heist movies. When I saw the trailers for this, I thought it was going to deliver/fill the void of the absence of heist films. I felt like it delivered something exceptional. While not necessarily ground breaking, which honestly whatever I'm perfectly fine with that, I felt it had a great formula to it.

The acting was top notch, some of the set pieces/action sequences were pretty harrowing. That long track shot in the apartment building was superb. All around, I thought this film did a great job at bringing back some of that old school heist film esque vibes. If you're on the fence about seeing this, I'd recommend it.
