x2 had the best score in my opinion so this can only be good in my eyes. Especially because he is editing and scoring so it should fit together nicely.

X2 had an great score. I'm glad Ottman is back for this. He was badly missed in X3.

I think I still have the X2 soundtrack CD gathering dust somewhere in my house.

Yes, this is very old news. But "good" news nonetheless. For most people. I have no reason to complain, so I won't. But I have thought the score to The Last Stand was a better score, First Class was very effective, and Michael Kamen's original score was incredibly fitting for the first film.

To me what I liked about X3's score is it sounded like a score for a truly blockbuster film.

X2's score, not so much.

The X2 score had true class. It set Singer's X-Men movies above the norm.

With that said I'm still excited for Ottman's return to X-men. This is the only comic book/superhero movie score next year that I think will deliver the goods. I also believe it'll be better than all the cbm scores this year as well.

X2's theme sounded like a sci-fi movie, it had elements of Wrath of Khan. I hope to hear more of that...

Huh, surprising that it took seven films for a composer to return. It'll be interesting to see what Ottman does this time around.

why would it hint towards the X2 theme? because the movie/theme is much loved? or because the last Xmen film he scored was X2? probably not gonna happen that way, its bound to be a brand new theme to match the feel of this movie, obviously each composer as a distinct sound thats recognizable but i think thats as far as it would go

all the themes have been different so i expect that to carry on

p.s i dunno why but the theme for origins annoys me

Yes to both of those reasons. Part of why we haven't had a consistent theme is because we have always had different composers. Time for some continuity. Not the entire score, maybe it'll have a new theme. Maybe the two times will have different themes. Future X-Men can have a similar theme to X2...

but you can't give the X2 theme to the future guys because its not the same feel it was in X2, the future is totally different to what we had in X2, It may not even work for it, let alone give the feel singer is looking for

it would just be an excuse to bring it back, which isn't really needed, like i said composers have a distinct sound they are recognize for but i wouldn't go that far as to say there will be hints of X2 just because its a loved film

No well not the whole theme but maybe a little small piece at one part echo's the theme..not even loudly...just a little tease of it. I dunno, I think it'd be cool to have some kind of musical continuity especially now that we have these guys back.

Taking nods to X2's theme/music is not even a requirement, in my opinion, they should just make a score that will be very fitting to the movie.

I don't want an "X2 score" for DoFP.

While the message is that Singer is clearly trying to bring back past glories, DoFP needs to have its own score. X2 was 10 years ago and times have moved on since then.

I'm pretty sure Ottman will revisit his X2 themes. There is a recent interview with him either on Film Score Monthly or somewhere where he said due to the different directors on the following films, he wasn't able to return. Until Singer came back to direct DOFP.

I fully expect DOFP to use Ottman's X2 theme.

I don't think it works that way, even if you add the theme for just the OT cast which would be pointless when you could just do a new theme or at least something to suit the feel of the film which will always come first before let's bring back that theme for this dark theme

That is also an issue it's basically a film for 2 of the casts, and you have to be respectful to both

Im my opinion, Singer and Ottman should create or decide the OFFICIAL and ULTIMATE track of the X-Men franchise.

Something that can become Iconic after a few movies, lets say in 7 or 10 years, after using it movie after movie (the main series, I mean).

If they keep changing the main track, they wont ever achieve that, or any other studio with their franchises, obviously.

Well people loved First classes track, especially the magneto bits. So it wouldnt surprise me if we heard glimpses of that when he is on screen. Other than that X2 didnt really have a stand out piece that I can think of, so maybe he will create like you say something for the entire franchise to follow.
