The Dark Knight Joker Scars: Accidental; self inflicted?

anybody think we'll get a zip-line joker figure since there's always a zip line batman???

i hope we get a very short flash back that shows how he got the scar...and it shows him screaming in agony...with tremendous pain

I hope they just don't show anything and leave it up to the Batman anime that is coming out

Maybe it's like in the 1928 silent film, in which Gwynplane, the paradigm for Bob Kane's The Joker (as seen in Batman number one), is surgically left his mouth in permanent smile. I'm willing to bet that Nolan took inspiration from this far back and turned the Joker into something much more sinister.

I like that.

dude, i went through like 10 of those batman figures that had the zipline belt, but, i thought somewhere that it was said that something happens to his face, his smile in particluar, and he just finishes it up.

I don't want an origin, I don't want to feel any sympathy. He is abosolute, Joker is a psycho, that's all I need to know.

Like Captainclown said, they will probably explain something about joker in the anime films.

Well I hope they don't make note that its joker, they just show some guy like a bystander that got his mouth cut by an accident caused by batman and like uh scarecrow

lol wouldn't that be a bit obvious
but it'd be funny to see.....bats and scarecrow just casually fighting down the street and......whoops.....aw man....sorry pal......

ya, I would be pissed off if it was caused by batman especially...then I would put on a clown outfit and kill people wouldnt you?

of course! Then i'd take my frustration out on a world that i view as inherently insane.....what a tragic origin....i mean......story......

I GUARANTEE all we'll get about his past in the movie is some random little line from the Joker himself about his past, like he does in the comics from time to time. We'll just get breadcrumbs, but they'll taste delicious.

I thought he just had bad acne...and he became the Joker because people made fun of him and he got all psycho...

“[The costume] is much more flamboyant and it sort of moves a lot, which he does,” clarifies Hemming of the character’s flailing, manic demeanor. “We started off going through all sorts of reference material with [pop icons] Pete Doherty, Iggy Pop—just going through all kinds of people that we could think of that might dress like that for real because Chris’ whole thing is reality.”

That realistic approach led to a less clowny, more punk rock version of the Joker smeared with white makeup and permanently marked with a bubbled, ugly scar extending his mouth into a monstrous smirk. Reports indicate the Joker begins the film as a nobody thug before an unknown attack results in his disfigurement thanks to a razor blade. Left for dead, the encounter alters the man’s perceptions resulting in the birth of Batman’s greatest villain.

“We just find him dressed like this, and you can assume that he might’ve been dressed like that for years,” Hemming reveals. “Whatever he’s been up to and doing, before we meet him he’s been wearing those clothes. He’s already scarred in the film, and so the makeup comes from what he does to himself to enhance that rather than to look like a clown. It’s much more of a street kind of Joker rather than a man who puts on a clown mask.”

Whatever happened, it’s clear the scarring pushes the Joker over the edge. And it looks like he’s not the only criminal element looking to make Gotham his playground. According to Nolan, the key to the Joker’s motivation, as well as the basic plot of the film, can be found in the final moments of “Batman Begins” after Batman’s takedown of a major crime element creates a power vacuum in Gotham City.

Preferred Batman confidential 9/10 over the killing joke, although the killing joke had much better art work imo. If they are not explaining anything in TDK I don't mind, leaving stuff to your own imagination is not always a bad thing.

Yeah, but it's always interesting to know exactly what is the director's vision...And with TDK, I want a quick explanation, not an entire scene about the origin of the Joker, but just a quick flashback.

Whats a zip line?

Someone probably tortured him. Its not that you can accidentally scar both your cheeks the same way. Its the famous Chelsea smile. Someone f***d him up!
