The Dark Knight Joker Scars: Accidental; self inflicted?

We know that in the movie, he likes to tell different stories to different people, so I think it's really meant to be left up to us in the movie.

Personally, I think it has to do with the mob, or a gang. Perhaps, years before, he stepped on the wrong toes and some thug cut him and left him for dead.

You can't trust anything the Joker says, which is so great. Even when he says, "You remind me of my father...I hated my father", we have no reason to believe it.

That's what I've been trying to tell everybody on here. They just don't seem to get the point, so thank you Shape and Nickyg.

Joker's origin is pretty damn obvious you guys just take five seconds to read between the lines.

badger attack

mabey he got attacked by a chupacobra! oOoOoOoOo X)

seriously, I have no idea what happened, eather story sounds juicy to me :)

I wonder if he was crazy enough to think up the joker persona, than he made himself into a walking statment,....or maybe it's the mark of the squeeler!

maybe he squeeled on someone in the mob, so they gave him something bigger to squeel out of. ;)

imagin his upbringing, what kind of ****ing parents did the joker have?? heh
he's not even that old, his parents might very well be still swiming around out there somewhere.
or maybe he's so ****ing evil he killed them with a circular saw when he was 2!

MOO HOO HA HA HA!!!!! X)

but i am sure about one thing, they will NOT touch on the origin story forthis flick. and frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

You have to understand that the majority of the people who are still debating this point are still debating whether or not Heath Ledger's Joker is permawhite or not. ignorance is bliss i guess.

You're right...

We may never really know his origin then (in this film):csad:

guys its stupid to debate bout this, we knew from the begining that joker was a chef down on his luck, til one fatful day a serious plastic knife incident caused him to have crucial scars.

then again there is another logical explanation, joker was a zookeeper and lets just say tigers were planning an attack on him for a long time,so in turn joker went crazy after the horrible incident.

Close, but no cigar.

He went to a donut shop to buy some breakfast, but all they had were a box of starving crazed weasels. After opening the box, they attacked, giving him his now-famous smile.

So.............anyone still think Joker was in a severe shaving accident? Ya know, maybe the shaving cream can exploded infront of his face and somehow cut his face with a razor? :oldrazz:

I prefer my old theory that he chewed through his cheeks while he was tweaking

He is a compulsive chronic liar, he can't help himself but to lie, I think thats what led to him getting the scars, he also said he was ripping off mob dealers before he became obsessed with Batman.

So does the film imply that Joker started putting on the makeup after Batman arrived in Gotham?

yep, in the interrogation scene, I think it was, Batman talks about once Joker is gone and behind bars, things will go back to normal, but Joker talks about how because Batman is around, nothing will change.. "you changed things, forever... there is no going back"

You know it kinds of sounds great!:brucebat::whatever:

Out of all the reasons that he says in the movie, the one pertaining to his abusive father and mother would be closest to the comics, as he uses the same story only slightly altered to have Harleen Quinzel to feel sympathy for him. Which brings up a point
I'm very upset that they didn't at least introduce Harlequin <Harleen Quinzel> in Dark Knight.
And I'm very curious whom will be chosen to be the future Joker.

The joker <Jack Napier though never told that in the movie hehe> I think ends up obsessing over batman so much that eventually his mind twists around the persona he makes for the public to see and he becomes the joker, therefor there is no point in his real name being shown bc he is no longer that person!

Mess with the mob for so long, and you're bound to get cut.. shot... mutilated...

ill bet my life, that harley quinn never appears in a nolan batman movie.

the two theories i've heard is that 1.) His parents were fighting, his mom pulled a knife on his dad and his dad didn't like that so he turned to his son (the joker) and asked why he was so serious, and said "let's put a smile on that face" and 2.) his wife had scars and he put a razor in his mouth and swirled it around. i personally think that 1 is the best and coolest choice, but i don't know. the zipline theory... no. the bullet and batarang... not as cool and demented as his own father cutting into his cheeks and carving a smile.
