“One day you might look up and see me playing a game at 50,” he said.

“Don’t laugh. Never say never, because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.”

Not that I'm saying it is a lock he may one day come back to the game, but what would you think if this happened?

It would be like the Rocky Balboa George Foreman story of basketball if it went well lol.

Jordan was a great basketball player, maybe the best......but he's a jerk, and his speech at the Hall of Fame proved it once again.

He thinks way too highly of himself....but hey, at least he's consistent.

He's not coming back. It didn't work in Washinton, and it's not going to work in Charlotte.

He is the best player ever he deserves to have a huge ego.

He deserves to be very confident, but nobody deserves to talk **** to others like he did in his speech. He could take a note from LeBron on how to handle having lesser talented teammates.

That said, he sucked in Washington a few years back, he would get EMBARASSED today. If he tried to cover James or Wade...

He didn't suck he was a pretty good player, check your memory.

Jordan WAS a good player. He'd get killed if he played today.

Jordan avg 21.4 points a game in his two seasons with the Wizards. He didn't suck back then, but...the last time his points per game for a season was that low was in the 80's...so.

Do not come back...

:awesome: but maybe as a coach.

He'll come out of retirement when the looney toons need him again for Space Jam 2.

I don't understand the outrage about his speech. I thought his speech was great, honest, and the most real I've seen a superstar athlete ever.

He accomplished so much, and changed the game of basketball. Is he supposed to ignore this fact and basically fake humility? I'm sorry but in this situation there is no need for him to be sooo humbled. Calling it an ego, is just not understanding the motivation for his words.

Everyone in that building was excited to see Jordan above all else. Even with good players like Stockton and Robinson, the atmospheric change came when Jordan got up there to speak. His tears were real, this is a man who truly loves the game but is done sugarcoating for the media.

MJ=G.O.A.T

....Yes.

So be like every other cardboard cutout? That would have sucked. I was glad to see him embrace that he was the best, and what it took to get him there. I felt like part of his personality that made him a great basketball player shined through the speech. Btw, if he came back at 50 I could still see him being a 15-20 point game guy.

With how the NBA defense scene today, Jordan can put around 20 points a game and still contribute for a team, and who says he play with a bum team this time. I'm sure if he came back this time, it be for a contender.

Great post.

It was a terrible speech because he is a role model a lotta people look up to, and he came across like a *****.

I think its kinda sad that young people see these guys as a role model.

I can understand why people weren't all to comfortable with MJ's speech. I don't necessarily mind him thinking a bit highly of himself, because lets face it, Michael Jordan has earned it. Should he had shown more humility, of course, yes. But the idea of athletes bolding proclaiming that they're the best is nothing new. If you're going to chastise Michael Jordan for such a thing, then we might as well do the same towards Muhammad Ali.

My key problem however, is that MJ did come across as a somewhat bitter and vindictive. Anybody who personally challenged, questioned, or screwed him over (e.g. Jerry Krause and Byron Russell) met MJ's wrath. A large portion of the speech felt like a personal soapbox. There's an appropriate time and place to air your grievances, and the Hall of Fame just isn't one of them.

If he came back, I think it would be like the last Rocky movie. Sure, he wouldn't be the same guy he was the first time or even the last time around, but hell, he was the best, he would give no less than he ever did, and he would remind everyone why we called him the best. It wouldn't be MJ vs Lebron or Kobe or anyone else. It'd be MJ vs the game, vs the ball, vs himself. The other guys are just a way for him to carry out that test. We all know that he could get out run or whatever. He knows he isn't the same as he was. It wouldn't be about that though.

The outrage by some was is because they tricked themselves in the thinking MJ was Jesus almighty. MJ was a GREAT player, arguably the greatest ever, and definitely the greatest scoring guard ever. He had a hype machine that made people think he was this super classy, team comes first, great sportsman when the reality of it is he was NEVER that...Jordan got into fist fights with teammates, talked trashed on the court more than anyone else, and had horrible off the court behavior sometimes.

Kobe Bryant often gets blasted for the exact same things....People tend to look at MJ with rose colored glasses, and I guess the forgot how he really is. The same way players today were getting flack for wearing street clothes to games, MJ was getting flack for wearing gold chains in games. There's this huge mythology surrounding MJ and his speech kinda shattered that for some people.

Same to me, i dont get it. I was laughing during a lot of it and i thought it was a cool speech. The man had a competitive edge like not many others, and that's what made him so great. MJ's speech and C. Vivian Stringer's were the ones i enjoyed most of the night.

Way too highly of himself? So you're pretty much saying that Michael Jordan is overrated? That all of his accomplishments and what he's turned the sport into are just "consistent"?

The man has such great competitive fire but media-wise he has remained pretty neutral. He has NEVER told the world how he really feels. People wanted to hear him actually speak his mind, and the one time he did speak his mind he gets chastised for being too honest.

That said, he sucked in Washington a few years back, he would get EMBARASSED today. If he tried to cover James or Wade...

I'd say "sucked" is a strong word to be using.
I think its kinda sad that young people see these guys as a role model.

Young people grow to realize that role models do not encompass everything that they want to become in life. They grow to realize that they need to take what they see as the best characteristics from these role models and emulate them to make them their own. Young people who see Michael Jordan as a role model become people like LeBron James... the man is even wearing his number.

His HOF Induction speech was one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen. Guy hasn't got one ounce of humility.

I had no problem with Jordan's speech at all. In fact, I think he was too soft on Krause.

It kinda be hard for Jordan to play at 50, cause his legs go out, then what will he depend on? Power? I mean he is heavier then his Chicago and even Washington days.
