Joss Whedon developing Marvel SHIELD series for ABC

Yeah, except the Marvel Universe version is a gay guy (like, Richard Simmons-level gay) who grew up in an orphanage and his real first name is "Robin." And he's a Skrull too. And secretly Captain America's son. And maybe the next Sorceror Supreme of Earth. :oldrazz:

On a serious note, John the Skrull would be an awesome addition to the cast.

 is not that lesbian Cop from the Superman books

Yes. It was a joke.

Ha yeah he would. I've no idea why Marvel don't use more of him. Maybe they're not allowed to use John Lennon's likeness?

If Ming Na's character isn't very lenient, she'll be Ming the Merciless. :hehe:

I don't think that's a legal concern if the person is dead. I'm not sure.

Getting a good John Lennon look-alike to play him would be ann issue, though.

Ming-Na Wen is a total sci-fi geek by the way:

Probably decreases the chances of James Woo being a character though. Usually an American TV show doesn't have two Asian-American characters in the principal cast, unless they happen to be a couple or blood relatives.
Nah, not necessarily. Maurissa Tancharoen is Asian and one of the showrunners here, so I imagine she might have had a bit to do with casting Ming-Na. For anyone familiar with Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog Tancharoen actually had a funny song on its musical commentary track called "Nobody's Asian in the Movies" lamenting that very fact.

Ok, in that video she reminds me of someone I know - both the way she looks and her voice. Well, an older version of the person I know.

I don't remember if Ming Na ever wore her hair down in Eureka as Senator Wen. I wonder if she will wear it down for SHIELD. I'm guessing probably not (as even Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill wears it up) so she will most likely look like Senator Wen in this series.

Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Pilot to Begin Filming in January?

Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot could begin in January, if a new report is to be believed.

We’ve known since the series was announced in August that it’s a priority for corporate siblings ABC and Marvel, with the pilot targeted for the fall 2013 season. Seemingly confirming that timetable, a new listing on Television Show Auditions states that S.H.I.E.L.D. will go in front of the camera in mid-January in Los Angeles. That would put the project on course for the network spring upfront presentations.

“S.H.I.E.L.D. will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing constancy with the films in that franchise,” the listing reads. “S.H.I.E.L.D. will be independent from The Avengers film, and people who haven’t seen the Marvel movies can jump right in and understand the storylines.”

The release continues, “There will generally be new characters and agents who are not superheroes, and even though they are a large organization, they will be underdogs since they still exist in that superhero universe. Clark Gregg is playing Agent Phil Coulson, the same role he has played in Iron Man I & II, Thor, and The Avengers. The series will center on his character. Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Ming-Na Wen has been cast as as Agent Melinda May, an ace pilot and weapons expert.”

We already knew that Joss Whedon is directing the series’ pilot, and that his brother Jed Whedon and Jed’s wife Maurissa Tancharoen will become showrunners if it’s picked up to series. With S.H.I.E.L.D. shooting in the new year, the pilot should likely be ready by Comic-Con International to test on fan audiences. ABC could also pick up the series for its fall schedule if the network likes what it sees.
If this is indeed the case, I expect we should be getting more casting soon.

I hope they do announce more casting. And I hope it gets picked up for a series. I expected that they would have to start filming quite soon.

Unless it's really terrible, I have little doubt that it would get picked up. Aside from the huge amounts of positive media buzz surrounding it, its tying in with the MCU franchise means there is already a huge audience, who are likely to tune-in to the series on a regular basis, already built-in for the show; meaning it would be a much, much safer bet than most other shows being considered.

The problem with abc though is that if this does get picked up, they wouldn't have a good show to put it with so that could affect ratings.

I say put this show at 9 pm on Sundays right after Once Upon a Time...

I doubt they would want to move Revenge AGAIN. Though, if 666 gets cancelled, then they can move Revenge to 10, and have it at 9. I agree that Once would be the perfect lead in.

Revenge is more violent anyway so should be at 10pm instead of 9 if you have to choose between that and SHIELD for the timeslot.

Well it does make sense for ABC to air this show after Once Upon a Time, but yeah not so much the same time-slot for Walking Dead. Wednesdays maybe?

Sunday night TV is already too crowded with good stuff. I can't have this competing with The Walking Dead and Dexter and Game of Thrones. It wouldn't be too smart for them, either, since those shows share the same genre-loving audience. I really hope it airs on a weekday night.

Tuesday night feels like a good night for this show.
