Joss Whedon's ideas in x3

How about the whole "love triangle" between Buffy (Jean), Angel (Scott) and Spike (Logan).

Yes,that all came from Whedon. Come on,people!

Whedon managed to screw up his self-invented universe. I guess his karma is bad for the projects he's involved in.

If youre referring to the last two seasons of Buffy, then well pretty much. Except in season 6 he handed the reins over.

The writers also took Dr. Kavita Rao from Whedon.

That's like saying they took Cyclops, Beast, Jean, Bobby, Angel & Magneto from Stan Lee, Wolverine from Len Wein and Storm, Kitty, Collosus & Pyro from Claremont.
Isn't quite the same as when Whedon referenced the Dark Phoenix saga for Buffy, a different universe for a different company.

Buffy, yeah.

Anyone else see a link in stealing some of Joss Whedon's ideas in x3? :)

There's obviously the cure, which is in the comics but that's okay, of course

But does anyone else notice ideas seemingly stolen from his ideas?

Like Dark Phoenix is - veiny and dark eyed , way too much like Dark Willow from Buffy for my liking...

And that isn't Phoenix, it's willow, for me Phoenix should be bright eyed surrounded by fire, you know? She isn't pure evil as they seem to be making her... She's about power (ie, phoenix bird needed)

And going back to x2, the line:- "Have you ever tried... not being a mutant?"

This is exactly the famous line from Buffy: "Have you ever tried... not being a slayer?"

I mean, what is it with Whedon's ideas?
Am I making mountains out of molehills?

i hate whedon... i cant make 10 post with out mentioning it.

Some of the smart-allecky dialogue that I've seen so far is VERY Whedon.

i would agree with you about the dialogue... cause it is bad. and bad=whedon

You don't know anything about dialogue, do you?

yeah... quite a bit. Which is why i read mark millar, over whedon. If you are backing whedon.. then i already know that you know very little about dialogue and this is where you no longer get an opinion. just like it was said above....

"Some of the smart-allecky dialogue that I've seen so far is VERY Whedon."

cause he is tied down to only being able to write 5 characters. And he just reuses those characters over and over.. i gurantee you if he did this movie we would have a PHOENIXBUFFY and a WOLVIESPIKE

You really have no idea what you're talking about.

well you can teach a human almost anything... but you cant convince a fan that thier hero is ****. so i will not debate it with you. but if you want to come at me with i dont know what i am talking about... then by all means: back it up.

convince me of his AWESOME ABILITIES... put logic in this, or dont talk at all. cause i can post 500-1000 words of why whendon should have his pen taken away

Willows power had been growing throughout the season, it was an ongoing theme and concern for those around her throughout. Revenge, after Terra's murder, was what tipped her over the edge.

As you may recall, Jean's growing powers were a concern to those around her and revenge on Mastermind immediately proceeded her transformation into Dark Phoenix...

So yeah..I do know the actual story.

Yeah, you're right... it had been building all season long and her death just tipped her over the head, but when she was Dark Willow she was all about revenge, you know? But I would agree with you

And I didn't mean to say that you couldn't actually know the whole story :o

Let's not get over the top, obviously taking from the comics doesn't matter

I'm not saying he's perfect but he does have extreme talent, Buffy as a series was amazing

Whether anyone likes him or not is merely their opinion. I think he does great work, and I'm pretty sure there is no way of proving he's a "****".:)

But I am curious about why you think he should have his pen taken away.

Hmm...I think the movie verse was showing the Phoenix to be internalized in Jean...not an external force residing in JEan. Secondly, the revenge bit plays in with Xavier putting the mental blocks...and thridly ( i don't know if anyone mentioned this) didn't Joss Whedon mention the the Dark Phoenix was inspiration for Dark Willow?

I don't know that he directly stated it,but Whedon's always been a big X-Men fan so one could just put two and two together.

Well you know, take what you will :( I dunno...

If you're unfamiliar with Dark Willow or Buffy, I thought this was cool:

Hahah i just imagined the X3 trailer with the buffy theme song... good stuff....

It's nearly impossible to listen to the Buffy theme song and not want to bob your head along to it.

Whaddya know? Magically, I still have an opinion. I'm not talking about comics -- I never read them, as they're simply not my medium. But to contest your "he only writes five characters" theory, please point out who each character in Speed is, as all of the dialogue is basically his.

Whedon and Millar are my two favourite writers that are related to comics.

The next three being Vaughn, Moore and Morrison.

All masters of dialogue, plot and characterization, yet in different ways.

I dislike Bendis and sometimes Gaiman, but recognize they are both very talented.

Also, on the whole X3 thing: It should have been a better movie, but was still enjoyable. I feel a little frustrated for devoting so much of myself into anticipating this movie, but thats what you get when your a fan.

They clearly took the idea of The Cure from Whedon's run on Astonishing, but from what I've seen of the movie's version, they've also improved greatly on how it relates to the X-Men mythos.

buffy was good for one season... then he made a thousand buffy characters. i am standing next to two DIE HARD FANS of WHEDON... also known as "stupids". Even they are saying Whedons show could do 4 crap episodes then there would be one AMAZING episode... still not a "brillant man". And they are even able to addmitt that he reuses formulas for characters.

I think that if you search deep down inside your soul... you would see the the flaws. Or maybe you would be too busy watching smallville and other WBTV semi-dramas. (and that is a general you) I cant do soap opera television... and that is all he writes. Sorry guys. He REALLY is WAY over praised! I cant wait til Mark Millars "WANTED" gets made into a movie... or Millar turns in a script for X4 or something.... you will see what a good writter looks like. Or just go pick up the new issue of CIVIL WAR and read that.

well i cant read anymore of these for now... i am going to leave for new york in a few hours. I will be back later guys... happy fanning! and happy mothers day for all the kick ass moms on this site!
