Action-Adventure 'Jungle Cruise' Movie starring The Rock and Emily Blunt

Fun romantic adventure movie. Basically a mix of The Mummy and Pirates of the Caribbean. I had a good time.

My main issues:

* Sometimes a bit too much talky-talky exposition. The Rock's backstory was a bit overwrought IMO.
* I think they should've had more focus on Aguirre over Prince Joachim. Joachim might be an acquired taste to some. Jesse Plemons sounded like he was trying to imitate both Christoph Waltz and Werner Herzog at the same time.

I loved this. Its got some flaws, but the characters, actors, score, and fun make it worthwhile. The Rock is at his most likeable in this role. No pun is safe from Frank.

Plus James Newton Howard did an instrumental cover of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters, my favorite Metallica song, for the Conquistador characters which is just *chef's kiss*.

Id give the film an 8/10 for enjoyment. More objectively its probably closer to a 6.5 or 7, but I feel its more than the objective sum of its parts.

Story spoilers:

I was blindsided by Frank being the Conquistador cartographer Francisco. So props to the film for holding that card close as long as they did.

And I like that Aguirre's reason for wanting the flower wasn't insatiable Conquistador greed or a lust for immortality. There's not much a parent wouldn't do to save their dying child and it was the perfect way to humanize him. I really wish the film would have done more with him and given him a more complete resolution.

I was NOT expecting Paul Giamatti. I missed him on the poster, and either never heard or completely forgot that he was in this. He was great as always.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, but need to be really particular about when I go to movies. Weekday matinees seem to be going pretty good so far and I can judge how crowded it will be by the theater website shortly before it plays. So far, the complex has been pretty much a ghost town.

I don't care if it's a great movie. I miss those action adventure popcorn flicks.

I definitely had a good time with this mostly due to the great chemistry between Emily Blunt and The Rock and the set pieces are quite fun and reminded me alot of other swashbuckling adventure films that I've enjoyed in the past like Indiania Jones, The Mummy and of course POTC.

The cast overall really brought alot of charisma and personality to this which actually made it fun to watch throughout even if some weren't as strong as others.

Jesse Plemons seemed like he was having a ball in the role, but that character was a pretty cartoony villian and I definitely wish more had been done with Edgar Ramirez in this since he was far more interesting IMO.

It was okay. Nice visuals. But typical adventure movie. Very predictable and a bit bland.

Looks like guaranteed Fresh with 251 reviews and 63% Fresh. Audience Score also at 94%.

Is that good? I feel like some films would have doubled its opening weekend if there was no covid. But according to Wikipedia (idk which source it used), this cost 200 million.

Could have been better but still pretty fun. Looking forward to a potential sequel. Definitely some Mummy vibes to it but it didn't bother me too much as far as my enjoyment goes.

Emily Blunt really did a good job of carrying the movie and The Rock was more or less his typical self.

I enjoyed it. Loved all the dad jokes. Didn’t realize it’s actually part of the ride! Will be going to Disneyland in a few weeks and will definitely go on this ride.
Would highly recommend checking out the Beyond the Attraction docuseries on Disney Plus

Definitely enjoyed it and had major Indiana Jones and The Mummy vibes with a dash of Pirates of the Carribbean.

I liked The Rock in it but he definitely seems miscast, or out of place in it. Someone that had Brendan Fraser's mix of everyman and hunk would've been the perfect type for his role.

All in all I'm hoping for a sequel as I miss these kind of movies but I wish they'd take cues from Indy and the Mummy as for how to "shoot" the movie cause it felt too "modern" and I have no idea how to articulate what I really mean.

The movie also needed a much better soundtrack too, some cues were definitely inspired by Indiana Jones, but nothing stood out either.

Feel like all these movies have good opening weekends because of low expectations but then steep drops because everyone who isn’t worried about covid already saw it.

This was a wonderfully entertaining film! Really liked the performances, set pieces, action, humor. Some cheese and typical problems with hollywood blockbusters but it was great to see something rather fresh than a sequel or direct remake. Great family fun, we really thoroughly enjoyed it!

Yeah that’s how it’s going to be for the rest of the year at least. These movies are going to be heavily front loaded.

Well this was more entertaining than I expected. It has it's flaws but I'd give this a 7/10. Rock and Blunt have chemistry and Plemons was actually hilarious as prince Joachim ("Scheisse!"). The biggest daily newspaper in Finland gave this 4/5 stars and thought this has potential for a franchise and I can definitely see it. This wasn't quite on the same level as the first Pirates Of The Caribbean but it was better than the last Pirates movie.

90% of it looks like a set or backlot or a theme park ride. It wasn't ugly, but it lacked the on-location, natural look of Indy, Mummy, and Pirates.

This movie wasn't on my radar but now i kind want to see it. I'm a big pirates of the Caribbean fan and while I doubt it's on the level of the first 3 of that series, the reviews are very encouraging. Just not sure when I'll check it out.

It's definitely worth checking out at some point. Not on the level of Pirates but still fairly solid.

Yes! It did look artificial and not like a natural setting. Not a huge deal for me but I did notice this too.

they made it look artificial- they really built a great set for this in Hawaii
