I haven't cried in a movie in a long time but this one almost got me with the injured dinosaur scene.

Yah, I got teary when the Raptors died and got injured too.

This for me felt like a monster film than it was a JP film. The sense of awe and wonder wasn't present. Pratt and Howard were the saving grace of this flick. And Lawd have mercy that kiss was soo cringey.

I will say, the movie did bring back memories of my time working at a zoo.

I admit I got a little misty eyed when the bronto died :(

The same exact criticism that Roger Ebert made...

of Jurassic Park.

Really? Thing is when we see the dinosaurs for the first time with that theme playing. It felt epic and special. The awe and wonder was there for me. In this film, I was rolling my eyes when they played the main theme when the dinosaurs were not even in the shot. I guess I'm in the minority of those who didn't like the film. Actually I'm the only one. Lol

The injured Apatosaurs scene made me tear up. And many other things did for nostalgic reasons. Visitors center, the ending especially. Pulled at my JP heart strings so much.

Marvolo! We need to discuss this movie my friend! :woot:

I am still in complete shock at the numbers this is doing. Absolutely nobody saw this coming but it makes me feel so good to know that after 14 years this movie kicked ass and the world thought the exact same. :D

You can't expect any JP film to recapture the magic of that first reveal of the dinosaurs. Even in real life the laws of diminishing returns effect us. We've seen four films by now. The audience isn't going to be blown away by dinosaurs like they were in 1993. In 1993 it was amazing because no one had really seen something like. They hadn't seen dinosaurs done so well, so "magical", and with so much "realism". But now we have. We've seen that magical moment over and over and over for the past 20 years. So I'm not sure any JP sequel will ever have a moment like that one, and that's not a bad thing. It indicates that moment in JP1 was truly something very special.

It's also great to see Bryce Dallas Howard rebound from that awful Terminator film. I thought her career was over after that.

I haven't seen JW yet, but I'm not pretending that the first three films were masterpieces of characterization and plotting. Though I agree with you on that first shot of the dinos in Jurassic Park. But I'm not sure you can recapture that, honestly.

Fair point Marvolo. The writing and characters wasnt the films strongest suit IMO. My friends took me to see this film as a birthday present on Friday and I didn't come out happy at all. I'll give it a second viewing but I just found it awful.

the characters in the first film were better written imo. Just found them better than some of the characters in JW who seemed like they didn't even want to be there. Pratt was charismatic, I'll give him that.

I saw it.

Well, it was much better than the third installment. Hell, upon another viewing, JW might just overtake Lost World for me. There was a lot to like about it but the ending just fell apart. It felt too friendly. Why would the Raptor come save the T-Rex? That whole scene threw me off. And I get that Indominus Rex is a badass and a genetic freak but they still made the T-Rex appear too much like a *****. The scale to this film also didn't feel big. It felt too contained.

Outside those complaints, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, that scene with the Bronto got me a little down too. It served a great purpose though. It made one of the suits realize that these are indeed living animals, and they do feel pain. They're not just 'company property' or science experiments. I also liked the scene where the Raptors refused to execute Owen. They were loyal to the end because Owen treated them like partners, not slaves. I'd like to think the Raptors knew that.

1993 my friend, just saying :cwink: But you loved the film like me yes? Can we please discuss haha

Thing is a ****ing juggernaut. Even if Colin ain't coming back, he has pretty much written his own ticket now regarding future projects.
