While there were whispers before, we now have confirmation from Jurassic World 2 director J.A. Bayona, while talking to Latino Review about his third film A Monster Calls (which just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews) that World began an intended trilogy.
“I think they love ‘The Impossible’ and ‘The Orphanage’—especially Colin (Trevorrow) loved those movies,” he told LRM. “It’s very interesting. The whole ‘Jurassic World’ is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned. We’re writing the second chapter, and it’s very interesting where he’s leading the story. I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it’s a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time, bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It’s very exciting right now.”
As Bayona says, World director Colin Trevorrow (previous winner of said Nolan Gambit) and his co-writer Derek Connolly came up with the arc of the trilogy and are currently working on the sequel script, with a tentative filming start of February 2017 in Hawaii. New series leads Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are confirmed to return. It is scheduled for release June 22, 2018. Speculating here, the third film would likely hit summer 2021
