Jurassic World - Part 10

The annoying characters and thin storyline are the major drawbacks of JP 3.

The film did an estimated 29mil on Friday.

I'm thinking 93-96mil weekend.

I could at least semi-buy it if there had been successful attempts at training raptors for years. But in the film they are just having the very first hints of a breakthrough with four raptors learning a few basic common tricks and all of a sudden D'Onofrio is acting like it is a finished program with raptors ready to be used immediately. Even after an incident where they nearly killed a handler and Pratt had to dash being a gate to avoid being attacked himself.
Exactly. I've seen videos of men that have relationships with lions, where the lions who live in some wide open enclosures tolerate humans or even are friendly with humans and acknowledge them in the pack, but that doesn't mean you can send them into Afghanistan to take out Al Quaeda in tunnels.

It's not the Spino's fault it was stuck in a duff film with joke human characters and instructed to take out the fan favourite T Rex. We need more Spino love.

I liked the Spino and was excited for a new threat when JP3 came out. I just think now I prefer Indominus over Spino.

Come on, show some support for old' Spino ! :sly:

He looked lot better than ugly I-Rex. :o

I wish the kids had shown some remorse when the assistant died. I know it wasn't specifically their fault but she was trying to look after them.

I wonder how the animals will now survive now that their isn't a park to feed them.

They missed a great chance to go meta. When talking about the I-rex, mention how the Spino did not test well...

I wouldn't mind the Spino returning. But I want Spitters more.

Oh I forgot about Fathers Day, the movie should do better than I projected. Over 100mil looks like a good bet.

I also expected more of a reaction, kinda felt bad that the assistant was there to show awesome dinossaur eating scenes.

You can tell Joe Johnston used horror influences. The phone thing was unrealistic, but effective.

I always thought that was more of a Peter Pan reference.

Also, I wonder if they're going to ever tie the Spino to a concept not unlike the one that gave birth to the Indominus. It's not that I love the "living weapon" angle but that would at least explain why inGen left it off the records, why it could beat the T-Rex with relative ease and why it kept following those damn tiny humans like psychotically-fuelled serial killer.

The spinosaurus was/is lame. I sat through JP3 the other night and the entire movie was painful.

@ERCboxoffice: Big Time Box Office! JURASSIC WORLD looks like it will hit $100M this weekend, INSIDE OUT close behind with $90M.

Incredible numbers. Looking forward to seeing what all the excitement is about tonight. JW on the bill with Spy at the local drive-in tonight.

Some thoughts:
- The characters were either irritating or stupid or boring.
- Except for Pratt. The movie made sure to celebrate his eye-roll worthy "badassery" to the point that it was just cheesy. One of the kids even said "your boyfriend is a badass!" We get it, movie, we get it.
- The plot of the movie is that theme-park goers are bored with the traditional dinosaurs. I don't think this was the case in real life, but this movie kinda made the traditional dinosaurs (T-Rex, Raptors) obsolete as interesting threats. They felt neutered and "anti-hero-ish", which was ridiculous.
- I wouldn't have destroyed the theme park in this movie because now the franchise feels like it's at square one.
- The theme park reminded me of the misery of real-life theme parks.

Saw a documentary on the spinosaur on NatGeo... A little less impressive when it probably walked on all four legs when it was on land. :p

I show support I enjoy Spino haha. I just prefer Indominus, I think it looked great.

Same here. I love Spinosaurus & would even love to see another one someday but I definitely prefer Indominus.

Went to go see this again earlier (again with my dad) and we both enjoyed it a little more than the first time. I still think it's a fantastic movie that excels in many, many areas.

And I'm officially in love with Bryce Dallas Howard. :hmr:

What I liked about JW was how the i-Rex escape was going on, and they kept cutting away to the fully functioning park with people oblivious to what was coming their way. Sort of like passengers on the Titanic playing with ice on the decks while the ship is slowly sinking.

Now that it's been stated this way I can kind of appreciate the technique a little bit more, but at the time my impression was that it didn't feel like anyone was truly in danger for most of the movie. I loved the pteranodon scene and the pandemonium that ensued, and wanted more of that. They failed to take full advantage of having the movie take place in a fully operating park full of tourists, in my opinion.

Did anyone else feel like this was more Bryce's movie and everyone else including Pratt were kind of the co-stars considering the arc she had?

I totally felt that her character was the protagonist for that very reason. It's not even much of a question to me honestly.

Yeah, I was asked after the movie who I thought was the main character. And after consideration I said Bryce.
