Nostalgia played a huge part of why this movie did so well. It helps it was entertaining but if they release another one in 3 years, I don't think it will be nearly as successful.

Or maybe people just genuinely loved the movie? Nostalgia alone cannot get a movie $1.4 billion (and counting) in addition to breaking dozens of records. That's an insane notion.

I did not want to be so critical but this film has made me so...
The most emotional moment was the reuse of William's score. Other than that the film was somewhat mediocre.

So many important scenes were just badly executed carbon copies of scenes from the original film. Now I can see how great filmmaker Spielberg really is, his sense for right timing, for camera's angles, etc., etc. Scenes, where he was able to bring so much awe or tension, felt feeble in this film, albeit they were so similar.
I mean, T-Rex attacking Tim and Lex in the car, T-Rex running after Grant and Malcolm, T-Rex chasing the jeep or T-Rex whiffing from nostrils on Lex and Grant, unforgettable moments. Here? Just a feeling that one've seen something like this film already and that it was much better back then.
And by much better I mean the difference is categorical. The Jurassic Park is classic, Jurrasic World is just somewhat average family/action movie.

Okay, now Pros: I loved kids riding little triceratopces

and feeding little apatosauruses. And that pteranodon pulling the little triceratops into the air by grapping his saddle.

Some ideas and scenes were good but nothing exceptional. I honestly don't know what story they wanna bring in next film, the topic feels depleted already.

Everything important and entertaining and awe-inspiring was already in the first film and was done so much better (sorry for repeating myself ad nauseum).

It can't, you're correct, but it certainly helped.

For example, my dad came along to see this and he hasn't been to the cinema in 20 years. No joke.

I agree. I think it's both. That's why I think a sequel will be hard. It's the same problem the first sequel had. How do you make a sequel that isn't just more people running from dinosaurs.

Yeah I think is both. I mean if it had not been 14 years from the last one I don't think it would be making quit has much but I mean even if the movie where to make like half of what it is making it would still be at 700 million and going witch is still not bad. I don't think a Jurassic world sequel will make has much but even if less say it drops by like 33% like Jurassic park to lost world did the next one would still end up at like a billion or more. So any changes this movie can reach 2 billion? The movie has been out for a month so I have to think that it is not going to make to much more money now. I think most movies are shown in theaters for about 1.5-2 months or at least after that the amount of theaters that a movie is still in is way way down. I know it still has Japan to come out. Like how much do movies make in Japan? How much did fast 7 make in Japan?

As a writer myself, I think that would be the fun of tackling the project. If they get somebody great at the helm, it'd really make them have to stretch the creative muscles to give us news visuals, a new story, etc. It is a hard task, no doubt, but with a capable writer it can be done.

With TLW, I kind of feel it gets a lot of unnecessary hate. It isn't perfect by any means nor does it surpass the original but it did a good job of establishing a different premise & incorporating new elements, imo.

^ They said they're developing a story right now, with a very rough draft to be handed in in August or October or something. A few pages back.

I finally watched it the other week. The park and dinosaur stuff was fantastic, the human characters... not so much. Kids are boring and bland, Chris Pratt is a very likeable guy but there wasn't much to his character at all. With Claire, they seemed to aim for the same "doesn't like kids, learns to like kids" arc Sam Neill had in the original, except that they forgot to write the bits where she and her nephews actually, you know, have meaningful interactions and bond. The romance was forced as hell. The only believable relationship in the movie was IMO between Chris Pratt's character and the raptors. I did like the amount of effort they put into making the park feel like a real place, and whatever its faults it at least didn't feel like a soulless cash grab.

I think they're being smart & taking their time so they don't just throw anything together, which is the best approach.

Yep, no question of there not being a sequel. But best not to rush it out and have a think about what best to do next.

I liked the younger kid. He was kind of a spaz, but also nice. The older one was just there for the most part. I agree with your other points, which makes it sound as though I hated the movie but I didn't.

Late to the game as I'm a brand new member, but I gotta let my voice be heard on Jurassic World.

Jurassic Park (and even to a lesser degree, The Lost World) is the one film that has gives the most nostalgia over any other film in my life. I adore that film to pieces, every frame of it. My childhood was consumed by Jurassic Park for a long time. I remember everything. It is my first theater experience (I was 5) that I remember. I recall the MacDonald's tie-ins, the toys, the VHS release, everything. No film has ever put such a spell on me as Jurassic Park did. I'm a film fanatic, but the only film or franchise I can say I'm a total and utter fanboy over in the JP franchise (sans JP3). Indy comes close. Star Wars comes close. Alien comes close. Terminator comes close...Batman...Superman...Back to the Future...they all come close, but they aren't Jurassic Park.

As Jurassic World got closer and closer to release I got nervous as hell. I had never been so excited for a film in my life. As hyped as I was, I told myself that there is no way the film would EVER give you the same feeling as JP. So I calmed myself down (which was hard as hell) and went into the theater as objective as I could be. Realistically all I wanted from JW was for it to be better than JP3 and offer me a good time that didn't feel totally stupid.

Well, how did it go?

I loved it. So much.

I was right, it didn't give me the same feeling as JP, but it tried like hell. It's not the most original film, or the smartest film. It's not even the best film of the summer if I had to be honest. That honor goes to Mad Max. It is though, the film that made me the happiest. Trevorrow and his team really felt like they had fun with this film, and wanted to do right by the franchise and it's fans. There is an undeniably Amblin quality to it that I loved. It doesn't play like a 2015 blockbuster type of film. That makes two films this summer that don't play by today's blockbuster standards (the other, of course is Mad Max) and I love it. Aside from the CGI effects (which are amazing and anybody who blindly says they are bad will not be taken seriously by me and should not be taken seriously by anyone:yay:) the movie felt like it could be have been made in the 80s or 90s. It had that same kind of feel to it, this kind of intangible feel that I can't quite put into words. It's not a film that tries to reproduce a certain style of film or anything-it just is. And what it is is a refreshingly non-cynical adventure film.

The characters are the best ensemble we've had since the first film. Thin? What? Where? Claire, Masrani and the brothers...hell even the Raptors all had arcs. I'd say these are most fleshed out characters of the series after the first film. The characters in the first film are more realistic and don't fall into as obvious of tropes as the these characters do, but that doesn't make the JW characters thin.

I have my gripes and if I wanted to be honest with myself my object film loving side would rate it a point lower than my fanboy side, but I won't be that kind of film buff at the moment because JW made me a very happy camper.

9/10

HISHE is on point

[YT]TXGCyjJh48I[/YT]

I would say they are drastically off point, and that's not just my crazy fanboy side talking.

I love HISHE, but this was a lazy and cynical video to say the least. Every other one they do is a clever retelling of the film. This one is just a snarky poking at "plot holes". The film never stated all the animals had shockers in them. So that point is totally off the mark in particular.

I don't know what it is about this movie that is making internet critics and personalities releases slap-dash material that isn't like their usual stuff. But it's weird. Nostalgia Critic did it too.

I didn't hate it either. The only thing I hated was whenever Vincent D'Onofrio's character opened his mouth and I just felt my eyes glazing over. I really didn't care for the character or the entire militaristic subplot.

I still thought that the movie was second-best in the franchise, faint praise though that might be. At least they threw in some new interesting things, like the genetically modified dinosaurs and training of raptors (who are still the dinosaurs with the most charisma in these movies). And the park itself was wonderfully realised.

Well...that happened. I had to remind myself a half hour afterwards that I even saw it, but it was okay.

Looking back at the i-Rex escape, it's rather silly. I don't believe it'd play out like that in reality, as the HISHE video parodies. They'd keep the pen shut and just keep watch. But that's ok - I went along with it. Without this breakout there's no movie.

D'Onofrio was one of the worst examples of a completely one-dimensional mustache-twirling "military goon" I've seen in a while.

I agree D'Onofrio's character was terrible, possibly my least favourite character in the franchise. Masrani was my favourite in this - he had a character arc and was really charismatic. Shame he didn't have a larger role.
