Justice League Movie: The Original 7 + 1

Let’s say they decide to launch the JL movie franchise with the 7 founding members, but you could still add ONE to the first movie.
Just one!

That is:

1. Superman
2. Batman
3. Wonder Woman
4. Flash
5. Green Lantern
6. Aquaman
7. Martian Manhunter
+
8. ?


Who should get the last spot, and why?

I chose characters from across several incarnations of the League but clearly left off many, some obvious favorites more specifically associated with other franchises like JSA - Dr. Fate, Powergirl etc. New Gods - Orion, Barda etc. Freedom Fighters - The Ray, Black Condor, etc. Titans - Nightwing, Roy Harper, etc.. Or are more derivative or repeats on JLA, sorry they would be in the next movie.
Also there were only 40 slots - Hence the spot for other.

And this is for fun, feel free to gripe about who is missing and/or explain your choice…

Replace Batman with Green Arrow. They are similar in the power/gadget field. And GA should be the leader of the team. Then take away Superman. They are powerful enough without him, to take on almost every threat. But put in two other heroes instead: Hawkman and Elongated Man. These two would be good assets to the group (nobody among the others has stretching abilities, and the cop from Thanagar is pretty badass).
Just imagine these three toghether with Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Green Lantern, The Flash and Wonder Woman. They are god-like (well, except Queen. But he has other qualities).

This isn’t so much a create your own new JLA thread or rearrange the whole thing , this assumes you have no say in that the already established original founding 7 have been chosen for the movie, now if you could add just + 1 last character to that movie line up, who is the ONE! you would choose?

I voted for Static. He's definitely not my favorite character in the poll, but I have my reasons. He could still have some fans from the cartoon and it'd be cool to have a younger character in the mix with those heroes. I'd prefer Billy but he'd get complaints about being too similar to Superman. Plus Static could use a push in popularity.

I had to offer some choices unique to the current League.
I'm sure I missed a gazillion, Adam Strange, Tomorrow Woman just jumped out at me, but without repeats and only 40 slots, I tried to have some unique to: Satellite, Detroit, Bwaha, JLE, JLI, Morrison – Waid earlly to later 90’s, post millennium, Kelly, Meltzer, McDuffie, Robinson’s and others.

I guess it could be a little overkill with both Batman and Green Arrow there. So I think I pick Hawkman.

Green Arrow for sure.

He's got great chemistry with Hal Jordan and Bruce Wayne.

He's also a very grounded, realistic character...so his backstory would be easy to set up.

He makes the most sense, and he could be a great 'outsider' character that the audience can relate to, like on JLU ("Initiation).. since he represents the common man.

Green Arrow. Faithful to the comics, and he adds a wisecracking voice of dissent to all the other heroes. He'd also be easier to spin off into his own movie. You can do a viable Green Arrow movie on a $60 million budget. I don't know if that can be said about any other marginally well known DC hero.

Green Arrow... Batman shouldn't be the only non-powered superhero on the team!


Plus, I feel Smallville has helped Green Arrow's popularity enough, that some people like myself would like to see the character on the big screen in a different interpretation.

In all honesty I would also pick Green Arrow but it wouldn't be him.

They'll add another female character so I would expect Hawkgirl or Black Canary.

Green Arrow. It's even historically accurate for it to be Green Arrow. Green Arrow is historically the next member of the group to join. Green Arrow joined in Justice League of America #4 (1961).

Some obvious popular votes so far, not surprising Green Arrow has quickly emerged as a clear favorite, So far.
As has been pointed out besides being a great character and personality foil, he canonically is the next to join after the Original 7. Although to some - Year One - still has Canary joining before Green Arrow, although he secretly funded the team.
Vixen so far is a nice surprise though, for me since I voted for her,

Well with this new JL image we get to see who Geoff Johns' +1 would be - CYBORG!

I did have him on the list, although nobody voted for him as yet.

With Johns promoting this "new" JL, the above will probably be the League pushed (if any) chosen for the eventual movie.

With something like the White Martians set up as antagonist/invaders & J'onn J'onzz joining in the end.

Star Trek worked fine with 7 men and 1 female.


Wonder Woman, done right, is a strong enough female representation on the team. Adding another for the sake of diversity is needless. WW fills the quota.

Casting MM with a black actor only for the sake of diversity is pointless, considering MM is green.

I think they're more likely to bring in John Stewart, like they planned to with JLM.

I went with Hawkman, because Thanagar needs to represent.

Green Arrow *would* be my first choice, but I honestly can't see putting Ollie in without Dinah. Give me "JL 7 + *2*" and I'll go with GA and Canary in a heartbeat.
