If there is already a thread like this ... bla blaaaa. Bla. Anyway.

To refreshen the memories of those who have failed to memorize the details of the suits:

THIS is the suit from Batman 1989.

THIS is the suit from Batman Returns.

Have a favorite? State what you like/dislike about your favorite suit. Leave explaining the merits of BOTH suits to the over-achievers. As for me, I choose '89. The muscles complement that roughness, toughness, and badassery. I like the muscles on Bat armor. Michael Keaton was like a real bat! A dislike is the restriction of movement, but it never detracted from Batman being a rough 'n tough badass. The '89 suit gives off the aura of:

"I'm Batman. Being my enemy comes at the price of me eventually annihialating or incapacitating you!"

:cwink:

Michael Keaton looked badass in the '89 suit, I wished he would've looked like that asweel in the Batman Returns suit (even if sometimes he did, but only sometimes).

"over-achiever" present...

The 89 suit is my favorite of the two. It looks tough and durable, and the re-designed Bat Logo was something that was more akward but still Batman, which I liked. Plus this was, I believe, the first time we were given an all black suit, which works so incredibly well on film.

But I also admire the BR Batsuit for it's art deco feel, and while some fans didn't appreciate the fact that the tint of the suit sometimes lent itself more to blue than black, I actually enjoy that alot. It translates the blue highlighting of the cape and cowl from the comics really well (more so than B&R, which in that case they purposefully tried to pull off the blue motif and it didn't work as well as the accidental blue tint of Returns)

I'd want to put the Batman Returns Batsuit on display, so I could then show it off to my friends...

But I'd want to wear the Batman 89 Batsuit, so I could go out and kick the s**t out of criminals...

Batman 89 suit is my favorite of all the Bat suits, although it was probably the worst for mobility, I dont think it showed much on screen. Its the most intimidating too for my money.

B 89. I never got the idea behind BR suit and I certainly didn't like it as much... except because it matched the whole movie's art design.

I prefer the BATMAN RETURNS suit. The B89 is clunky, and somewhat cheap (due to the fact that the suit was being made for the first time, and B89's low budget). Aside from the robo-abs, which I don't like too much, the suit is a sleeker, more polished final version that uses the B89 suit as a kind of prototype.

hey LordofHypertime, from what I see in the thread, point of view are different because people are considering the suit within the film or out of it, what is your question exactly ?
Because out of the film speaking, sure the retuns suit is the best ; hell, the B&R is the best or the BBegins suit because they kept doing better and better. You see what I mean ?
But within the movie, I think the best is the 1989 batman suit. It is my favourite. I disliked the idea of having an armor ; I prefer the muscles idea.
And ,even if I love the Returns cowl, I like the cowl of 1989 more because the sculpture of it is more brutal, you know, it is not designed to be pretty. It's hard, brutal and solid.

Batman89's budget was very large for its time:word:

Wasn't Batman the most expensive film at the time it was made? I'm pretty sure Whul says it on the DVD.

Essentially: Which suit if your favorite out of the two? They can be critiqued in the context of the movies or the productions. It doesn't matter which.

Matter of opinion, plus I didn't include BF/B&R suits as options, because I realize the fans are so fixated on 'bat nipples.' That would get real old real quick.

On the contrary, nipples aside, I like the so called "Panther design" from Batman Forever.

And even though it was far too shiny to be properly worn in the shadows of Gotham, the Sonar Suit looked cool when it first appeared on screen, along with the muted tones of the Robin Suit...again, sans nipples.

I, like so many others, am not a fan of the nipples on the suit; I never understood the necessity to have them or the importance of casting them in rubber.

On the other hand, I do think the hate towards that decision was taken to an absurd level. The suits from the Schumacher films are still beautiful works and impressive strides in the world of film costuming IMO.

The next thing that's so impressive is how you handled the nipples in such an adult fashion, and were willing to look past them to the actual suits. Believe me when I say not everyone can do that. That said, I do want to keep discussion on B89/BR suits. Someone else can make a thread for pitting BF/B&R/BB against one another.

To be honest I never noticed the nipples until I saw all the hate for them on here. It still doesn't take me out of the film, I don't notice them really. The Panther suit was great imo, but it could of done to be be totally black without the blue tints.

No, it's not a matter of opinion. That was the goal of my question : are we considering the suits within the movies or not ? Am I clear enough ?

The '89 suit. The window shutter six-pack really killed the suit from Returns.

Understandable. I don't wanna have to read through countless Schumacher insult posts either.

Yeah, it looked like he was going to produce some hot dish from there ala Bender. lol

Nah, I didn't hate BR suit but didn't get the design too much.

In terms of design, the Returns suit looks prettier.

But when you're fighting a one man war on crime, looking pretty shouldn't be a priority.

I agree, that's why I like the 1989 better.

I thought the Batman '89 suit was ok. I didn't and never will like the rubber "organic" 6-pac abs, the cowl didn't fit right, and when I look back on B'89, the suit just looks cheap to me. Like something you could buy out of party city. And on top of that, I didn't like the Bat-symbol used on his chest.

Batman Returns suit was great. I loved the design, the mask fit much better, I like the industrial look, the boots were better, and he had the normal yellow emblem on his chest. In fact, the Batman Returns suit is my favorite of all time.

Edit: I also love how the cape drapes over the shoulders.

I absolutely love the 89 keaton suit. It was such a radical departure from what we were used to seeing in both the comics, cartoons and live action. The "some kind of body armor" idea was totally believable in the sense that a guy would need this armor to go out and fight the crime of his city. The whole image of what they created just left me awestruck. The suit was raw. Had an intimidating look to it. It looked like a giant bat with the organic look of it.

I remember when I saw the movie, I knew what I wanted to be for Halloween. I wanted to be Batman and have that costume. I was only 16 at the time and had next to no money. My mom helped me put together what would be my first of many Batman costumes to try and imulate that look.

the B89 suit is classic. simply put. BUT, i really liked the sleeker, armor-plated look of the Returns suit, so that was my choice. the fake muscles are cool, but i just prefer the armored look.

Low-budget? $35m? In 1989?
