Kevin Smith's Red State finally happening.

all his movies minus cop out have gotten good ratings by critics.
RottenTomato scores:

Clerks-88%
Mallrats-53%
Chasing Amy-91%
Dogma-67%
Jay and Silent Bob-53%
Jersey Girl-41%
Clerks 2-63%
Zack and Miri-65%
Cop Out-19%

He has 2 movies that are "Certified Fresh" by critics. 3 that are "Fresh" and 4 "Rotten" movies. He's not really a critical darling, and a lot of fanboy-types don't like him or his recent movies. So, everyone interested in this isn't just because "Oooooh Kevin Smith :hrt:"

50% and up are good in my book... movies rareeely get over 65%

btw the community ratings are as follows
cop out 46%
jay and silent 77%
clerks2 86%
mallrats 83%
clerks 89%
chasing amy 81%
dogma 84%

Clerks 2 deserved a way better rating.

I always have a soft spot for Jersey Girl. Hell, I prefer to Chasing Amy, believe it or not.

Kevin Smith released the teaser trailer a few days ago. No dialogue, just a a bunch of quick scenes.

Here’s the official description:
Ever since Clerks (cowinner of the Filmmakers Trophy at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival), Kevin Smith has been known for his sharp, subversive, comedic writing. He shifts from comedy to horror with Red State and aptly demonstrates that good writing transcends genre.
Red State begins by following three horny high-school boys who come across an online ad from an older woman looking for a gang bang. Boys being boys, they hit the road to satisfy their libidinal urges. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying “holy” force with a fatal agenda.
Instead of relying on archetypes and predictable formulas, Smith meticulously fashions all-too-real characters, utilizing exceptional performances (notably by Michael Parks) and an intelligent script. His realistic style gives the film an intimate feeling, heightening the terror to biblical proportions. Red State is a shocking new kind of horror film that aggressively confronts higher powers and extreme doctrines with a vengeance.
Red State, which stars Michael Angarano, Kerry Bishe, Nicholas Braun, Kyle Gallner, John Goodman, Melissa Leo, Michael Parks, Kevin Pollak and Stephen Root, is set for wider release in March.

LMAO!! So much for "staying away from predictable formulas."

looks like a student film.... not even an indy movie.

Don't take this the wrong way, but comments like those are what never allow me to take any of your posts seriously....at all.

I'll be expecting a "ditto" or a "dunno who you are, don't care" reply, and that's ok.

This looks pretty good, actually. I skipped Cop Out, but I like how this looks. The style seemecd earie, and the angles are fantastic. Very old school.

So, Kevin Smith has declared that he will not be doing publicity or interviews for his new film, and will instead be releasing it via. his Smodcast Pictures podcast empire on October 11th 2011. In the meantime he'll be touring the USA with the Red State tour, providing screenings and Q&A each date along with free goodies each night. More info: http://viewaskew.com/redstate/

Good idea? Bad idea? Personally, I'm surprised. The budget is only $4 million, but every cent is his own. He's only aiming to get half back apparently.

From some of the reviews I've been reading I don't blame him.

I'd love to see this on tour. Bruce Campbell did this not too long ago , it was really cool (not the movie but Bruce answering questions)

out of all Kevin Smith's films I like

Chasing Amy
Clerks
Clerks 2
Mallrats
Zach and Miri

The rest i didn't like as a whole but had some good things about them.

Heh, I like it!

I keep hearing good things about this movie. I can't wait to check it out.

Looks pretty awesome.

I wonder, has Billo the Clown (Bill O'Reilly) gone on a tirade yet over this movie, given his idiotic insistence that "Christians don't kill people?"

Just watched the trailer, and that's the first time I've cared to know what Red State was even about. Awesome. Just awesome. Can't wait to see this

I can;t wait to see this . That execution scene was chilling.

Cool...except that that trailer, and the original trailer from several months ago, make this movie look like two different films. I was under the impression that I was looking forward to seeing an oldschool style horror film...now I think I'm going to see a Tarantino-esque quirky shoot-em-up.

I dont think I'm even interested anymore.

You kind of have a point there... the first half of the trailer makes it look horrific and scary but once they start showing the scenes with John Goodman it looks like the movie shifts to some sort of David Koresh standoff thing with jokey dialogue. Might still be good, but I was hoping it would keep that creepy unsettling tone throughout the movie because I'm met people like this in real life and they are creepy as f**k. They might not have been mass murderers (that I know of) but they certainly were people that I wanted to stay the hell away from.

So I finally got to watch Red State and I can't really say it was a bad film but it was an odd film. For horror fans all I can say that you will be slightly if not greatly disappointed by the ending. It's just an odd film overall, It wanted to be two things at once.

I give it a 7.5/10

This was something of a heartbreaker for me. Not a very good movie. At all. Strangely, it's biggest failings are the two things Smith is best at: dialogue and character. The whole thing plays out like a clumsy student film with 1-dimensional characters and truckloads of tedious exposition.

And the ending is pretty much ripped straight out of Burn After Reading.

I'd give it a 2 or a 2.5 at best. Plan to write a review in the next couple days.
