Kiersey Clemons IS Iris West

Jeff Sneider's wasn't a rumor on Reddit. He said they were casting the female lead for Flash and we'd find out around Memorial day.

Oh I saw it on reddit
Well he also is a scoop guy... so it is just a rumor....Hope they go for some diversity in the castings..

Kiersey Clemons is a great choice for Iris West
If not Zoe Kravitz is perfect too.

She was great in DOPE… I wouldn't mind that. I would expect they would go for diversity and plus it's a Rick Famuyiwa movie too.. I really like that they would do that too!

I'd prefer if they didn't racebend Iris for two reasons - to differentiate themselves from the CW show and, given that casting of Miller is being criticized on the ground of him not being blond (hence "looking nothing like the character" to some people), to have at least one of them look more closely to the character from comics. Which would preferably include light brown/reddish hair as well.

By the way, I just recently learned that Iris is pretty much Lois Lane version 1.2., I wonder what they could do to make two characters more different...

See the bigger problem is the one you mention later on. Iris is pretty much Lois Lane.. If you change her surroundings (where she grew up in) and change the race it might. Like I mean make her not a well-off generic white woman.

Make her be local reporter or journalist and nothing big. I hope the go with Ira and Nadine storyline for her too, except put them as relatively financially struggling individuals thought educated and scientists.

Alot can be changed if you think about. I like how Rick Famuyiwa is engaged in telling the stories of the underdogs from the less well off parts of the USA. Ghettos and not exactly ghettos but crime filled neighborhoods.. If he brings that to Flash, that would be fantastic.. It give Flash more purpose too! with many criminals to deal with..

I can see your point here, but I still think that changing her race and contextualizing the character as someone from a ghetto doesn't truly change that much in the essence of her being an assertive reporter and a superhero's love interest/wife. Her not being a "well-off generic white woman" adds more of a different flair than a different dimension to the character, the way I see it... the core of the character, meaning everything that makes her similar to Lois Lane, is still there.

I'm not sure there's a way to make her different at her core. I think keeping her sorta ground level might be a good move. Lois tends to focus on the more global news. Have West be more concerned with using her skills in the name of social justice. Stuff like housing discrimination and whatnot.

Like in my mind, Flash might start zooming around Central City and saving the day. That creates a decrease in crime and an increase in property value. Iris sees the good Flash does, but also realizes it's leading to gentrification and displacing families from their neighborhoods. And it creates an interesting sorta cause and effect scenario that the DCEU seems to be trying to highlight. Even though the heroes do good, it can still end up hurting people in different ways down the line.

In that sense, Iris could be the main motivating factor for Barry to take his efforts global and join the JL.

That is an interesting idea, I must admit.

And yeah, I guess there's not much one can do to differentiate her from Lois, aside from changing the character's personality to a more extreme extent, which most certainly shouldn't be done. Keeping her more of a local journalist is a good enough difference though.

I think to really get the notion that she is not Lois v2 , they will have to change her occupation entirely.. I don't know about that.. I could see her as a cop .. an amalgamation of patty spivot and iris?.... just for the film universe though.

I thought about this as well, but I'm not really a fan of that idea, to tell you the truth. I guess what you guys proposed, her being more of a small-time journalist, should work well enough in making her at least somewhat different.

I know, I remember that Grant was criticized for looking nothing like the character. :funny:

I think some people forget that.

I remember when a few people said Rick Cosnett looked more like Barry Allen than Grant Gustin.

It is a stupid criticism on its own. The fact that Gustin is dark haired as well, just enhances the stupidity of it.

How Barry looks in the costume is more important than how he looks out of it. Him being blonde or not makes no difference to his character and how people perceive him. Whereas Barry looking good in the costume has a bigger impact of the appeal and perception of Flash.

Alot of people are generally upset how the generic white characters with blond and blue eyes are changed to other people. It reminds of the aryan superior race idea. I mean Aquaman looking more Jason Momoa is better for the character. Also a Jewish dude with dark hair and a longer or different nose as Barry Allen is not bad. It represents the current diversity America has.
Back in the day when these characters were made they were really racist and against anyone who isn't white. That is not the time anymore.

I just hope the use film redesigns of the characters in everything else now.. I like how Ezra looks more like Bart Allen but he plays Barry Allen and I'm guessing will act sort of like Wally West.. I like what Marvel is doing, they change the comics and animations to look closer to the film incarnations of those characters.. DC has to do that.

I enjoy the CW show but I have feeling season 3 of it will be horrible just like Arrow.. So these people supporting it now will inturn bash what they are praising later on if thia happens

Well I thought overall season two had a huge dip in quality, season three being even worse wouldn't surprise me.

Surprising I enjoyed both seasons like Arrows first 2 seasons.. It's going to go downhill though.. So everyone's going to jump the film version bandwagon, I think it is inevitable.. No one wants Stephen Amell to reprise his role in DCEU anymore
