Eternals KIT HARRINGTON is Dane Whitman aka BLACK KNIGHT

I'm all for a funky Avengers line up that includes Sersi and Dane. Super Teams like the JLA and the Avengers have always had periods where it had a lot of variety in the membership outside of just the big marquee names.

I love the thought of Sersi and Black Knight being in the Avengers, I only regret it appears Crystal can't quite join this party just yet.

One day. Maybe even one day soon.

I mean let’s assume they’ll let the Inhumans lie for ten years so people forget the last situation. What’s that like, two and a half phases ahead? That’s nothing

Kind of miss the long hair but ok the world won’t end

Start of Avengers Run:
The Forgotten One appeared in a forgettable costume in the Avengers comic shortly before a new writer came on board and put Sersi onto the team instead. She had a long run with the team it appears and I wish I would've collected Avengers comics back then instead of Spider-Man as a lot went on in these stories that I think would be fun to use as a template to pull from movie wise.

Interesting Storyarc:
The Black Knight (who also romantically linked to Crystal for a while) and Sersi romance lasted quite a while and apparently an evil Black Knight named Proctor from an alternate reality was teased for a while towards the end of Sersi and The Black Knight's run on the comics.

Proctor spurned by Sersi in an alternate reality kills her and goes onto different realities (as he's captured "The Watcher" from his dimension named "Ute) attempting to do the same assembling a team of "Gatherers" from these other realities blaming Sersi for the destruction of their worlds. Of course, they arrive at the 616 prime dimension and take on The Avengers.

At the end of this storyarc (concluded with Avengers 375) both Sersi and Black Knight dealing with the ramifications decide to leave the 616 reality all together hence appearing in The Ultraverse comics then for a short while after Marvel purchased Malibu and a company wide crossover called Black September was done.

Of course Malibu didn't last long and was forgotten about and Sersi and Black Knight were then brought back to the 616 universe.

Big hair was all the rage in comics back in those days as can be seen with Proctor, The Black Knight, and Sersi. Proctor kind of seems like a non-ghost equivalent of Viggo from Ghost Busters 2. LOL

It's almost like some kind of Marvel Opera was going on minus the music:

Edit:
There's also a comic panel of Proctor telling someone he doesn't like to be touched shooting lasers out of his eyes taking their hand off unable upload here as image won't load that's an interesting character trait.

I know I'm going off track with this thread here (storyline based information is posted at link above) but I figured I'd just post the following rundown on The Gatherer members for the heck of it. I just looked it up some more so might as well post what I read somewhere for convenience sake and figured maybe at least 1 person might like a reference point after what posted above a few days back.

Summary of Members of 1st team of "The Gatherers" as follows:
*Proctor of Earth-374
(Alternate Reality Version of Black Knight Dane Whitman)

*Ute of Earth-374 (Imprisoned Alternate Version of The Watcher)

*Swordsman Philip Jarvert of Earth-921 (Alternate Reality Version of "Swordsman" Jacques Duquesne who was killed off in comics before Gatherers storyarc took place); clear of thought this character for a time became a member of the 616 Avengers after turning from Proctor's Gatherers

*Coal Tiger of Earth 355 (Alternate Version of Black Panther utilizing the original 616 costume and name this character was originally conceived as having by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby). In the Gatherer storyline, this character was unable to survive in the 616 universe choosing death over joining the Gatherers while also playing a hand in convincing the Swordsman to leave the Gatherers. A different version of Coal Tiger looking similar would later appear in an MC2 comic called "A-Next".

*Magdalene of Earth-9201 (New Character; Marissa Darrow the 616 counterpart introduced to be killed off by Magdalene); clear of thought she would follow the Swordsman later becoming a member of the 616 Avengers post-Gatherer storyline as well

*Anti-Vision of Earth-932 (Alternate Version of Vision); evil juvenile delinquent version of Vision who will betray anyone recruited after everyone else but was killed off by Proctor in Gatherers storyline after things didn't work out

*Cassandra of Earth 92101 (Unconfirmed Alternate Version of Madame Web); Cassandra along with Sloth and Tabula Rasa were abandoned by Proctor at his Andes based "Citadel" as it self destructed and Magdalene joins the Avengers at this point

*Sloth of Earth TRN-168 (New Character; 616 counterpart unknown resembles Sasquatch sort of)

*Tabula Rasa (New Character 616 counterpart unknown; a shape shifting android)

2nd Team of Gatherers formed by Proctor who kept Ute with him:
*Jocasta of Earth-943 (Alternate Version of 616 Jocasta with gold coloring; reformed bride of ultron in 616 universe). She appears in a Vision miniseries shortly after the Gatherer story wrapped up but isn't used by Marvel publishing after miniseries ended as the 616 Jocasta has been focused on instead. (Earth 943 version backstory was in military most of career then in Gatherer's storyline influence from Antivision gives her the personality of a 1940's detective)

*Korg of Earth ? (Unconfirmed alternate version of The Thing aka Ben Grimm)

*Rik of Earth ? (Unconfirmed alternate version of Rick Jones resembling a Cyborg/Man)

*Sliver of Earth ? (Unconfirmed alternate version of Mantis)

*Tarkas of Earth ? (New Character; 616 Counterpart unknown resembles a reptile like humanoid creature)

I think it's pretty cool that they're adding Dane Whitman, The Black Knight, to the Eternals movie, and getting a great actor to play him. I've read some stories from the comics involving Whitman, and he tends to be a pretty cool character in his story appearances.

In the movie, maybe the mythology behind the Eternals will somehow lead to Dane Whitman acquiring his powers as the Black Knight. And I could also see him serving as a sort of stand-in for the audience in discovering who the Eternals are.

Yeah but they have a great history in film. I mean go full lord of the rings with it why not?

Quality of the movies overall wasn't my point. The costume adaptions for many MANY characters in MCU films isn't even in the 75% range of "totally ripped from the page" comic accuracy and when it comes to any kind of head gear iconic flourishes are left on the page. Thor's worn some version of his helmet for basically about maybe ten minutes of screen time over 11 years and seven film appearances. Cap has had a helmet mask with painted on wings only having a costume design like the comics for a 3 minute montage in TFA. Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch even Quicksilver if you think about it since they weren't even attempting his hair in AoU, these characters don't have a one for one visual recreation and I don't expect them to in the future.

And even if they do... I expect there to be a metric ton of momemts where some rationale or excuse is given as to them having to spend the majority of time in costume but lacking anything covering their heads or face.

Now... There isn't much wrong with that per se despite my druthers. Somethings are more suited for a variety of reasons to the page and are better left there when factoring in what it takes to make a modern movie. Actors, no surprise, want to be seen. The truth is also that as hard core super hero comic book fans the stuff from the comics might be iconography to us, but the general audience doesn't have the same attachments we have. So they don't care about that stuff.

If Harrington has extended sequences with a costume with the helm and crest etc. I will be pleased... But it has been 11 years now and I won't be surprised if it never shows up or is shown once and never brought back again.

Is it bad that I want this costume of his more than the full outfit? It’s so simple and basic but it’s also kind of hot.

Yes it’s very bad lol. No I’m kidding but I do think maybe they can do better than a shirt and some jeans

Just ordered some comics for this guy after loving The Eternals stuff I got.

I hope Kit is actually given some sway over the design of the costume if he gets one.

He wore outfits for years evoking a fantasy medieval warrior society so he's got some experience in what is comfortable, looks good and comes across as "authentic" I think, to a degree.

Here is what I am hoping doesn't happen... That this actually ends up being akin to Renner showing up in the first Thor film. Sure, Dane shows up for a scene but ultimately it's just a moment in the movie to establish a future Avenger as merely existing in the MCU.

On the other hand... It is an Eternal film. A mythos that already in being adapted has a lot of plates to keep spinning. Should I really expect a reasonable chunk of this movie to be concerned with Dane's background and origin?

This keeps occuring to me. I want the Black Knight in the MCU and this excites me but now I'm realizing he is gonna likely just be tease here for use further down the line.

i really hope kit is capable of being not too much jon snow in this one...

Yeah, hard pass on this. It looks cool in a comic book but in live action, I feel like having a helmet but no actual costume looks silly. We got that with Magneto in some X-Men movies and it never looked good.

I'm thinking his role will be a bit more prominent that Renner was in the Thor. If I recall correctly, that cameo wasn't announced in any way and people just found out about it when they saw the film or read reviews. Since they made a big announcement about Kit, I think he'll be more significant in this film.

Like I stated, there's pros and cons to both sides. An Eternal film that has a BK origin shoved in might be awkward. So I get him not being a huge factor in the story.
