For sure man I get you. :word:  at lest you like Zilla when he was on screen. Let's see hopefully you like Kong!
Brie Larson is in this film. I already like it. :funny:

Funny thing about Kong. I love the character, but I don't love any of the movies. Can watch all the Kong scenes from the Jackson flick, but not much of the rest of the film. Watts was good though.

You don't like the original?

Blasphemer!

I have no idea. She and Hiddleston were barely in the trailer.
They were all over it.

I get that Jackson and Goodman were talking, but that felt more like setup then anything else.

Yeah there is a lot about Jackson's Kong that I enjoy and love, but there's a lot with it I also don't like.

I really liked Godzilla. Just got mad Cranston died so damn soon. I'm scared that Jackson or Goodman are going to die in the first 20 minutes again.

The biggest problem with Cranston dying isn't that they got rid of one of the best members of their cast but that he was pretty much the only character with really personal stakes in the mystery of the MUTO. Having the story follow him with Ford would have allowed for much more of a hook. Unfortunately all of his part was added by Darabont in the final draft. You can really see the seams.

Brie Larson is life.

I love how they start shooting right behind her and she doesn't even crouch down. Natural instinct would be to move wouldn't it?

I just hope it's more 'Heart of Darkness' and 'man destroys what is beautiful in the world' over turning Kong into a monster that destroys things for an action spectacle. That's what has me on edge about the trailer. There's hints of that, but it seems overshadowed by military ground and aerial assaults. Kong has always been more than that.

Really gonna pick this apart? Instinct might be to move but she's obviously looking up at something huge and she seems shocked to see it. So her not crouching is really a non issue. Her focus is elsewhere.

I've no problem with a Heart of Darkness angle. It's a cool alternative to the tragic love story. If Kong is the Kurtz of this movie then ****. Godzilla might be the one to root for.

Plus Larson reminds me of a female version of the Jeff Daniels character which is cool.

Well, the whole this isn't an adventure story. Men go off exploring, they mess with something they have no right messing with and some are driven insane.

I'm hoping Jackson's character is driven insane and that some others notice that.

A perfect 'Heart of Darkness' type film that I would love to see this match up to is 'Heart of the Sea.' Not the plot, not Apocalypse Now - but the voyage and what that voyage does psychologically to the people on it.

Basically, keeping the whole nature angle intact. The love story was a strong part of it - but that's surface level. The deeper metaphor being what we do to other people (colonization) as well as to other animals (hunted into extinction). Basically people find something, they treasure it over awe, and then they tragically destroy it either literally or making a joke out of it.

King Kong is not an adventure story, which is why I'm worried since it seems that the majority of the focus will be viewing it as such. It's a tragedy that goes beyond love story, it's what man does to nature and what it discovers. In that way 'King Kong' is an important metaphor in the same way that 'Godzilla' is an important metaphor. I would have liked more reassurance from the trailer that they got that Kong is a tragedy, not an adventure story with King Kong in it.

Damn, getting plenty of Kong's attitude in those shots. Still a bit short for the big fight, but damn, he looks great.

Peter Jackson hammers it home, repeatedly and a lot more on the head than the original but it was a very strong part of the original story. It's endured for the same reason that Godzilla has endured, King Kong is more than just a tall ape to create action sequences. It's an analysis of how man goes off exploring, finds a new world, and in the process destroys it.

I forgot about that. There are already roots of the story in the original film so they're still staying true to the spirit of it in a way but by mining another aspect of it and making it a whole new story out of that. See, that's clever.

I see less tragedy and more adventure here. Granted it was a teaser. That it has many new elements and is dropping many older elements that had key thematic importance - it comes off as something that could fall apart as being a 'King Kong' film to me if there's not stronger metaphorical ties that they're just not showing (hopefully). Basically, if it was any other film - I'd be excited. But, this being 'King Kong' has me worried since they seem more drawn to the adventure and "we have to establish him so Godzilla can fight him!" angles than the tragedy of the story.

Basically, I want to see a lot more of this quote being at the forefront of the theme of the movie:

And, lo, the beast looked upon the face of beauty, and beauty stayed his hand. And from that day forward, he was as one dead.

(Don't read it in the literal sense)

Granted, they have some elements of that in it. But, right now the message and importance of that quote to Kong just feels very overshadowed by everything else when that is at the beating heart of the significance of Kong. If they eliminate that or greatly reduce the importance of that, to me it would be the same as taking away radioactivity from Godzilla.

I wonder where Kong lives. Before he was small enough to at least have a cliff to live on, but now I don't know where he could even sit down.

There are cave complexes on earth that could accomodate an ape his size so maybe that's where Kong lives on this island. Could explain why he has gone unnoticed for so long.

He could comfortably fit in something that size.

Godzilla: "I know theres a kaiju on that island somewhere, but I can never find him."

Oh that's nothing. Check this out.

*That black spec that is being lit up on the right side is a person.*
