Well, the whole this isn't an adventure story. Men go off exploring, they mess with something they have no right messing with and some are driven insane.
I'm hoping Jackson's character is driven insane and that some others notice that.
A perfect 'Heart of Darkness' type film that I would love to see this match up to is 'Heart of the Sea.'
Basically, keeping the whole nature angle intact. The love story was a strong part of it - but that's surface level. The deeper metaphor being what we do to other people (colonization) as well as to other animals (hunted into extinction). Basically people find something, they treasure it, and then they tragically destroy it.
King Kong is not an adventure story, which is why I'm worried since it seems that the majority of the focus will be viewing it as such. It's a tragedy that goes beyond love story, it's what man does to nature and what it discovers. In that way 'King Kong' is an important metaphor in the same way that 'Godzilla' is an important metaphor. I would have liked more reassurance from the trailer that they got that Kong is a tragedy, not an adventure story with King Kong in it.
