Hi everyone, is anyone else into or interested in getting into Korean dramas? They’re the best and so addictive plus Netflix has a few good ones on there.

my favourite so far is “My Love from a Star” which is a science fiction series about an alien with superpowers landing in historical Korea and not being able to get back to space. He hatches a plan but it takes ages to prepare. Cue the present day and he’s finally about to leave and that’s when he meets a woman who changes everything.

anyone else have any recommendations?

My co-worker is such a big fan of Korean drama.

Yes, the Korean wave in Japan is very strong here.
I remember the day Girl's Generation, Kara, BoA, Tohoshinki are hijacking our music show weekly during 2010-2014. (Eventhough Tohoshinki is still active here).

I personally not a fan but I remember one drama that my co-worker recommended to me.
I don't remember the title but I remember the main cast is Jang Geun-suk, and the story involving the boyband which one member of the band is actually a girl in disguise and she is involve in romantic relationship with the main singer of the band. There are already a remake of its Japanese version.

@Silvermoth by any chance you following the Japanese drama too?

If so, I have a lot in my catalogue here that I'd love to share with you..:)

I do actually! I should really start a jdrama thread after this haha.

the last one I watched was Kaseifu No mita which I really liked! Please feel free to share your recommendations. I’m always looking for something new!

Kaseifu no mita is great series...it was perhaps one of the most emotional story that I ever see. Glad you liked it! :)

Boys Over Flowers / Hana Yori Dango / 花より男子

This is perhaps the most famous drama series in East Asia since this story already made into 5 different adaptions: Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hongkong.

The premise which is I believe is the source of inspiration for Crazy Rich Asians because the the identical story of a poor girl who involves in romantic relationship with a super rich guy. But with more of authentic Asian characteristics and culture.

I only seen the Japanese and Korean adaptation of the series, so I am gonna just recommend the 2 versions.

The Japanese version have two seasons (season 1, 9 episode, season 2 11 episode, and the movie). The main lead is Arashi's Matsumoto Jun as Domyouji Tsukasa, Oguri Shun as Hanazawa Rui, and Inoue Mao as Tsukushi Makino.

The Korean version is perhaps the most famous K-drama. Play by Lee-Minho (who I think now the biggest Korean male star) as Domyouji.

The story isn't a typical Cinderella kind of story. Yes, there's a poor girl and a rich guy and yes, he falls in love with her, but this Cinderella definitely doesn't want the charming prince to return her glass slipper. For me this story is good not because of the love story, but because of its crudeness. It deals with heavy issues (even more forbidden in Japan) like bullying, rape, tolerance, corruption, social class differences and the general injustice that is high school. I think this a story that every teenage girl should know of, because it says that you don't have to be anything to please a guy.Instead, you should worry about the things surrounding you and how you can make a change.

The love story is pretty good and addictive too. Makino is a strong female character who deals with a lot of things throughout the story. She isn't searching for love, she has her hands already full with school and her family. She isn't pretty or nice. Neither is she elegant or flirty. But, she is loyal to her friends and always defends people against injustice. She is honourable and honest, she always speaks her mind, even if it will get her in huge trouble afterwards. She's also fearless and does what most people are afraid to.

Then there's Domyouji, who is far from a perfect prince charming. To put it mildly, he's a total jerk and a bully. He used to getting his way and everybody is afraid of him. He's a really rotten human being. But, when Makino confronts him instead of running away from him, he falls instantly in love with her. For me one of the greatest thing about this drama is seeing Domyouji slowly changing from being the bad person that he was at first to a truly beautiful human being. His love for Makino makes him grow as a person, become someone kind and adorable, and he learns a little more about life, and accepts that he can't always have his way.

Watching this drama will take you on a wonderful journey and a roller coaster of emotions.

I've watched this several times and I will keep rewatching it, because I learn something new about it every time I watch it.

This is a remake of Korean drama..I havent seen the korean one, I judge this based on the Japanese version adaptation.

It is one of the dramas that left me a great and deep impression that will last for a long time. It's one of the unforgettable dramas I ever watched. It's really haunting. With the story, it is not a typical revengeful type of drama because I like the twists and turns of the story.

It was a beautiful drama that displayed love, regret, guilt and revenge in a beautiful way. It left me sad, but also quite happy. It really changed my view of life. I highly recommend it.

Hi, @Silvermoth if you have time, please search and watch those two..I really hope you can enjoy those two drama, which I truly loved. Thats perhaps my top two favourite drama series. Hehe

I will definitely post more when I remember other good title dramas :)

Thanks Marvelfan! I’ll try and track them down!

There is one drama again that I remembered
..since it is being re-aired last week on local TV here.

1 Litre of Tears / 1リットルの涙

This drama is based on the true story of a young girl named Aya and it really upsetting that she had this disease without a cure. Every day we all feel happy that we can speak, write and walk while she had to continue living as she lost those abilities.

Even if there was some modification to make it much more dramatic, lot of sentences in the drama are taken from the diary that the real Aya wrote it herself. It gives even more impact to the story.

This drama also shows the value of family, friendship and life. It taught me a lesson of the value of my life too.
