Kristin Kreuk's final comments on SV

Since her Official thread has disappeared into the forum ether, I'm starting a new one. Can't have the show end without a KK thread after all.

In response to some backlash she got from an interview where she said she'd not be watching the SV finale live, Kristin made some surprising candid comments. I think she was being diplomatic, but very honest at the same time.
Apologies if this was already posted somewhere in the forum and I missed it.

The bolding is mine, of my favorite bits. For the record, I don't necessarily agree with her perspective on Lana's departure, but I do appreciate hearing her view of it.

I thought this would be an issue for some people... To clarify, I love the people on Smallville: Kelly, Brian, Erica, Tom, the cast, the crew, etc. I think they are wonderful and that they make a great show. And, as you all know, it is so a...we-some and rare to build a TV show that lasts 10 seasons. I am fairly certain I will watch this final episode at some point. The way the question was phrased in the interview I answered honestly. It does not mean anything about how much I love/respect the people involved with the show (or the fans of the show).

Okay, I will answer this... Please appreciate how delicate I want to be with this. There are many people who are just waiting for me to say something that they can hate me for. And there are many people who really want the best for Lana. An...d there are many people who want the best for Smallville itself. As do I. I want the best for the show and for the character I played.

Part One of my answer:To be honest, I do not believe there was ever a real offer for me to come back. Though, I am pretty sure that if I showed interest in returning Kelly and Brian would find a way to fit me in.

Part Two of my answer: I may be in the minority, but I thought Lana's story ended well. I liked that she gained inner strength and was able to handle the metaphorical power of her suit. That she had the courage to walk away from Clark, that her commitment to a greater good outweighed her very human desire to be with Clark. That she saw that her love for Clark would never diminish, even if they could not be in the same vicinity. And that if she did not do her best in the world, if she did not do the best she could for humanity, that would counter some of the very reasons she loved Clark in the first place. She loved his nobility, strength of purpose, kindness and drive to help others. To deny that in herself would have been to deny that very thing she found beautiful. I find that beautiful and tragic.
So, what I am saying is... I think her story is done. I am not sure how her coming back changes Clark's story any longer. He has moved forward. As he was always supposed to do. As Lana would have wanted him to do.
I may be missing something, but those are my long-ass thoughts.

There is no personal reason why I am not watching Smallville weekly. Honestly, I never really did. I watched the DVDs when I was given them (part of our contract as actors, we get DVDs after the epi...sode airs). I know people want to make it a drama because the Smallville fandom is so divided, but there is really no drama...

Shelly: Totally understand and agree with you on many points... Especially: "nowadays we are very lucky to have technology like computers and the internet that allow us to use these social networks to conn...ect with people that normally we wouldn't have, and IMO, now that we CAN connect and communicate, we should strive to do that respectfully and honestly."

Erica, Allison and I have spoken about the intensity of this fandom on many occasion. It's wild because we love each other so very much. I know that the hate is not about me, as it is not about them... I know there is some intense feeling people have about the show and whatever it means to them. Still sucks. lol. Would prefer no hate. That would probably be healthier for everyone, especially people who are feeling all the hate in the first place. But I know it is unrealistic at this point.

Also: I am totally am Erica Durance fan too! You already know this, but, you are fans of an amazing woman. I truly adore her and know she has a vibrant future ahead of her, that you guys will get to follow with pride. I am trying to come up with a great show/film for her to be in before she is too busy working on other things.

I personally, as a fan was never able to understand why people take this show and the relationships between the characters so seriously. To the point that they start to hate on the actors as well - that's just ridiculous. I don't like Lana but I never had anything against Kristin. It just shows how classless many fans are unfortunately.

I really enjoyed hearing that even though they are all aware of the bashing that happens, they seem to put it into a good perspective. Also, very cool to know that she and Erica are good friends and want to work together again. I hope they can make that happen.

I am one who thought the whole reaction to the question will she watch the show was blown way out of proportion by some fans. That being said the only thing I agree with her in this comment is she is in the minority. lol

Personally, I loved Kristen Kreuk on the show from begging to end. I liked Lana from beginning to end.

It seemed to me the writers wanted to come up with this "tragic" ending because they thought Clana was so great it needed this big tragic ending. The big problem was given the situation they were in, nothing was tragic, they basically had a problem that both came off to lazy or stupid to even try find a fix for.

KK's idea that Lana left for the "greater good" falls flat because it's not like she made that choice on her own accord, outside factors made her leave. If they really wanted to push that Lana left for the greater good, why not have Lana and Clark come to the conclusion like rational adults that it's best they move on without the suit, it would have reinforced that idea more(without all the ridiculous melodrama). it's like the producers wanted this one big scene that in the end made no sense

Ya it would have been nice if they had them break up as adults and see they no longer fit as a couple. And then make mention she is moving overseas to pick up again on her love for design as we saw in season 3/4 she had a thing for design. That is what I would have done.

I agree with you. Some people are a bit intense.
Some more so than others.

Those people should take a page from Emil's book and just chillax.

Also, Classless? That sounds like a nice way of putting it.

I'm glad that the actresses of this show recognize the fan base.
Hopefully, they'll take the good with the bad, and won't become jaded.

I also hope none of them end up like Rebecca Shaffer. Sadly, with how crazy the fans can be, I'm a bit worried. Sorry to be a buzz killington.
