Things Smallville got right

i thought lionel luthor was the most interesting, i liked him way more than lex.

For me one thing Smallville got right was its there own unique take on Superman. What I mean is we haven't had the same story told the same way again and I for one am very glad for that.

My list
1. The Casting - Tom Welling, Erica Durance , Michael Rosenbaum , John Schneider and Annette O'Toole, John Glover, Allison Mack, Aaron Ashmore, Justin Hartley, Laura Vandervoort, Sam Wither, Callum Blue, Cassidy Freeman, Eric Johnson, Sam Jones III and even thought I'm not fond of her character Kristen Kreuk.

2. The Special Effects

3. The Superman alumni guest staring on the series - Christopher Reeves, Terence Stamp, Margot kidder, Helen Slater, Marc McClure, Dean Cain

4. James Marsters as Brainiac

5. Retelling and re-defining the timeless relationship of Lois and Clark :atp:

6. Reintroducing the Characters from the Superman Mythology, Heroes and Villains.

7. Exploring the Clark and Lex relationship with a much greater depth than it was presented in the comics.

8. The Kent family dynamic and The Luthor father and Son brawl

9. All the homages, tributes to Superman's mythology through out the ages :super:

10. Michael Mckean as Perry White

11. The Guest stars that eventually became Big Stars

12. The Justice League , The Legion of Superheroes, and The Justice Society Of America and other DCU characters

13. All the super hot sexy female eye candy guest stars :woot:

14. Comic book writers writing episodes Geoff Johns, Jeph Loeb, Mark Verheiden etc...

15. The easter eggs for comic book fanboys like myself

16. The memorabilia that I've collected (Books,Magazines,Cards,DVD's,CD's and t-shirt)

17. The theme song :hehe:

18. And most of all the memories of watching from the pilot to the Series Finale (Through the Good times, the bad times, the worst of times and those God awful times that seemed like an eternity of torment. Yet always came back to see an episode because I was captivated .)

Awesome list and on the theme when that kicks in I kinda get excited. Smallvilles my favourite TV show ever and I'm gonna miss it.

Lionel, Jonathan (except for that dying part), Martha, Oliver, and most of all Chloe. Those are the only things the show has done well.

Pretty much agree with the list including the final sentiment in number 18.

I'm a huge fan of Superman origin stories both comic, film & TV, I'm pleased to say I've liked 90% of every idea Smallville has thrown into the mix to give abit more freshness & indeed depth to an origin story which hasn't changed significantly since I suppose the 80's. Will anything stick for future origin re-tells? Perhaps, I'd like to think there are a few good ideas that can be brought into comics even better than they have been in Smallville.

In a more general sense I think Smallville has gotten some things right and they've been lucky since the beginning as well. First off the casting was spot on. Welling, Mack, Kreuk, Rosenbaum, Schnieder, O'Toole all of the actors seemed to have great chemistry from the get go. The fact that the character of Chloe was much more of a "hit" than they expected was a testament to good casting. ( I know there's a lot of Chloe haters out there, but she became more popular than anybody thought she would). And give credit to having a cast that's stuck around (Clark, Chloe and Lex) for so many years while adding key players (Lois, Oliver) into the mix and not missing a beat.

The show has also benefited from having something that a TV series rarely has. It had a specific ending waiting for it. Whether the show ended in season 6, 7 8, 9 didn't matter because at the end everyone knows what has to happen to complete the series. Clark Kent becomes Superman at the end of Smallville! Not too many other series have had a definitive ending to them from the moment they started. When compared to a series like the X-Files where it continually tried to expand into a greater overall mythology, and failed to make up for cast departures, Smallville has always had a destination its has had to reach and a cast willing enough to see it through to the very end.

Yeah, the casting of the main cast has been spot on, and as much as I dislike Dawson's casting, the just show just wouldn't have been the same with age appropriate actors.

The one thing I've always loved about Smallville was that Lionel Luthor's look was the same as the one Lex had in the 90's.

19. The visual effects of Clark's powers and the episodes centered on the discovery and control of a new power (Favorite episode is season 2 "Heat" -Heat Vision )

Making His Powers Look Real No Fakeness. Getting A Great Cast. And Having Christopher Reeve Guest Star. Also Everything Else. Thats All I Could Think Of.
