Krypton Krypton - General Discussion Thread

I thought Seg mistaking Detroit as the name for planet Earth was hilarious. Nice reference to planet Houston from Superman 2.

Dude, your avvy is killing me. :applaud

I think they tried to cram a lot into the pilot (which tends to happen a lot with TV shows). I feel like later episodes will explore things in depth a bit more and flesh out the characters.

Also, did anyone else think that one dude who condemned Barristan Selmy at the beginning and then tried to marry Seg off to his daughter looked like a discount Russell Crowe?

Hahaha, thanks. Aziz helped me out with it.

The pilot was weird for me since it seemed a lot of stuff was going on in it, but it just flew by pretty quickly.

I didn't really get Jor-El vibes from the guy. Maybe because his hair wasn't as long.

Definitely a solid first episode and start to the show. Setting up things nicely. Can’t wait to see more and what they do overall.

The production values were great. The plot was pretty generic and predictable.

Haha yeah that was great

Haha yeah I didn't think about the "Planet Houston" thing but that was clearly a reference to that.

I thought it was good. I actually don't think the series needs the Adam Strange "save the future" element to it. It was already pretty fascinating and has a strong enough basis for a series without having to rely on" Saving the future for Superman" as another element of the show.

That said, they want to appeal to the mainstream GA, so I guess they felt they had to have that Superman element in it to get non fans interested.

Aside from Strange's part in the show, I'm definitely gonna keep up with the series.

Show seems aimless without that.
Why not a Jor-El prequel as it is some time away from annihilation?
Why not a Val-El series with him discovering how Krypton is not alone?

I disagree.

I thought the myths they set up introduced for Val , his supporting cast, all the new characters were very interesting without bringing the Strange Superman/future element . I think they could have found way introduce the discovery of the fortress and the threat of Brainac without Strange from the future.

But, we'll just have to agree to disagree because i'm not gonna debate that one aspect of the pilot which I didn't care for, when I really enjoyed the pilot overall.

The show is, what it is. If you think its needed, that's fine, we disagree.

What's important is that i'm interested in seeing where it goes from here .

what's the rotten tomatoes score based off? just the pilot? 4 episodes? wat?

I wanted so desperately to despise this show. I watched the pilot, and actually enjoyed it. My plan has been foiled! It was not great, but it was so very far from awful. I am going to keep watching. Maybe the next episode will suck, and my hatred of this show will be re-kindled.

I enjoyed the pilot more than Smallville and Man of Steel. I really dig the design of Brainiac in this and was pleased to see it's mostly practical special effects makeup. There's quite a bit of world building in the pilot and surprisingly I enjoyed the CGI. Will have to watch a couple more episodes to see if I stick with this.

Yep, the "younger" version more so than the one a few years later. I was thinking they should've had him as Seg's dad, [blackout]but I'm sure the actor likes the continuing role instead, heh.[/blackout]

Eagerly anticipating seeing more of Brainiac and Doomsday!!

Haha yeah.

Seg’s dad was clearly a paycheck role for that guy from Sherlock.

Why would you want to hate it :hmm:

I think the time travel aspect allows the show to be a little more unpredictable than the usual prequel. Without it, we know for certain that Kal-El will be sent to Earth just before Krypton explodes, but now, it's possible the planet could be destroyed before then, since Brainiac going back in time has left all that up in the air.

Then we'll get a Gotham scenario.
