SHURA NO TOKI: 26 episode series that basically takes place in fuedal Japan, but towards the end of their era and has a sense of history as some legendary swordsmen like Musashi and Jubei have extensive parts in the series. The main plot is it follows three generations of the Mutsu clan, a clan of fighters who have in their bloodline a mastery of a deadly, unarmed martial art that allows them to defeat all comers, even if they are outnumbered or armed with katanna skills. They switch to a different Mutsu about after 7-8 episodes or so, with the last, Izumi, having the bulk of the screentime at the end. The action is easy to follow and fun to watch although not the best I have seen. The character designs are a bit flat, and sometimes telling the villians apart is a chore. Every Mutsu is notable for their dressing style and mannerisms, although they are anime hero cliches; passive, somewhat dumb, and an endless appetite. But, I still enjoyed it.
