Unfortunately, I have no confidence in your predictions. You said that The DaVinci Code would not fare well, and it has already made over $470 million worldwide.

No, I think that you should probably exercise a bit more dignified grace by doing more research and reflection to help your predictions before you make blanket statements that this or that will do well or fail. Just my friendly suggestion. :)

If SR doesn't make $150-170m after first 8 days, I will change my system of predictions ;)

the Hype has 33,100 members. For arguments sake, lets say every single registered member here is a different person and actually goes to see the film. Say an avg movie ticket costs $9, that's $297,900. Let's be generous, and say everyone here goes to see it twice, thats $595,800

Fanboy revenue is meaningless, the general public has to buy in

Fanboys are what keeps a movie in theaters for a long time. Like Batman Begins. While their revenue may be meaningness, they certainly give a movie longevity.

Yeah, I'll proably see it at least three times opening week with three sets of friends! I have waited this long to see Superman back on the big screen, and I plan on supporting it! Are you with me? FOR SUPERMAN!!!:D

:) Steel you got it; people forget that the movie will generate the 'buzz' as people talk about seeing it!

From what i can tell..the buzz in england isn't as big as it is in the U.S.

Robo, I don't know if you've had the chance to read the book, but I have and after that experience I have never been so confident that :supes: will be a success! The story is too fullfilling and complex in my experience not to be successful! But I guess we will see soon!

dude..

this could be the best movie ever made..but it doesn't mean the box office will match it.

If we all have fun and take all our friends to it it should do well!

It will do well but your forgetting that we are superman fans..doesn't mean the rest of the world are..

there are many factors that could work against it.

1 : A new actor playing superman never seen before on film..
2 : 20 years since superman has been on the big screen
3 : does the world still care about the man of steel?

True..

Bruv??

is that you phil?

:D

should we start a predictions thread? btw... they already have $33 from me! I just bought three IMAX tickets!

I find it odd that no one has mentioned the long running time as being a big factor when it comes to box office. 2 hours and 30+ minutes is a long time and this will not only affect the number of daily showings for S:R but it could also affect repeat viewings as well since we all know kids (and teens) find it hard to sit still that long more than once. I think the long running time was also a factor for Batman Begins that people neglect.

The long running time didn't affect any of the LOTR films. Spiderman 2 was 127 minutes, and it didn't affect the box office there.

If people want to see a film, they will regardless of how long it is. Myself, I prefer a longer film because I know I will generally get my money's worth. I don't believe this film will do a lot of repeat business, but I am pretty sure it will likely turn a profit.

Well, I believe between the IMAX, the IMAX 3-D, and the regular format there will be repeat viewings. Plus, it's sold a ton of tickets ALREADY, and I'm confident it's going to be a good film, so positive word of mouth will help.

''IF'' its a good film,I think its possible it could do 350 to 400 mill in the U.S. alone.''IF'' its good.we shall see.

It'll do a minimum 250 domestic and 250 oversears. I'm predicting 340 + 360. :supes:

IMO I fear for SR only because of POTC 2 releasing July 7. So SR has a little more than a week to make its opening profit. So far all of my friends are saying that they prefer to see POTC2. And lots of people movie hop these days. I'm sure a lot of people will wait till POTC2 comes out and pay for that and then hop to Superman Returns. They'll leave the theatre saying "WOW SR WAS A WHOLE LOT BETTER!" But the money they contributed would go to POTC2. DARN YOU MOVIE HOPPERS!!!

On a brighter note IMAX should get ppl to come back to see the movie again. I am for sure gonna spread the word about the IMAX version to my friends.

I'm also trying to promote it to my friends by putting all the teasers and trailers on my AIM profile and Facebook profile. And for my Facebook Status I put "Andy is waiting for Superman Returns. June 28 - \S/ Returns" haha
