I was at a website recently at the IMDB website and saw a list of the best fan voted episodes through all six seasons. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0279600/eprate Naturally, some of the more recent seasons were at the top of the list because they are fresh in everyone's memory but I was shocked at some of the episodes that were left off the top 10, even top 25 list.

Of course, the season openers and finales are always at the top of the list. The episode Rosetta with Chris Reeve passing the torch to Tom Welling is a natural as well as anything that introduces a classic Superman power or DC myth.

What would you consider to be a classic episode in Smallville that maybe isn't recognized as such?

I have to go all the way back to season one and pick "Hourglass."

I have to say it was a different impact back then when I saw it before Smallville really got liberal with the Superman background and mucked some things up, but at the time that was freaking cool giving us the only peek at Superman and Lex's future. The scene with Clark Kent in a grave with everyone in his life dead on tombstones surrounding him because nothing could kill him, or the scene with Lex as the President in an innocent field of daises and blood suddenly rains on him which shocks the poor old lady telling his future so much, that she drops dead right there, was simply classic!! And to top it off, we get a senior citizen freak of the week instead of a the usual high school student. Great episode indeed, but I guess fans of the show don't consider it as much since it was almost #100 on the list. :csad:

Ryan. The two episodes with his character were PERFECT.

Loved that episode and it's what inspired me to, if I'm able to get my live action Spider-Man:The Series off the ground, adapt "The Kid who Collects Spider-Man" into an episode!

I won't be afraid to admit that these episodes made me cry when Ryan died at the end. And I hope to make the same kind of impact on my viewers if I am ever able to adapt that classic comic book story into an episode.

I think the Stray/Ryan episodes made a lot of people cry, me included. :( :)

I like this thread - as much as people like to rip on the show, there really are an awful lot of excellent episodes, particularly from the earlier seasons, that are more character or plot-driven as opposed to having "big action" scenes (which we seem to get more of in recent seasons, and rightly so).

I suppose this could be merged under the Season's Come, Season's Go thread. *shrug*

One of my favorite early episodes is HUG. It's one that I enjoy rewatching because I think it works on every level.

yeah, i felt sorry for Clark in that one.

I really liked "Fever" from season 2, and "Scare" from season 4.

I loved the storyline and execution of Scare too. I'm not sure why it seems to get overlooked.

Scare had a brilliant execution. Great writing, and had some of the best effects of that season. Any time Smallville has a meteor shower, (hallucinated or not), it's pretty damned awesome.

I didn't like Scare much, one episode I loved a lot which no one every talks about is Extinction.

LOVED that....

I mean, Clark gets shot by a kryptonite bullet and nearly dies but then figures out a way to rescue Lana from the bad guy without getting shot again?

Smart and brave.

What's not to love?

And the villain's name, Van McNulty, is one of the best names ever.

It was an awesome episode.

he got shot and stabbed a lot that season.

Yeah, he did.

Now it's Lex that gets stabbed or shot all the time.

That's getting old. Clark needs to be in physical peril more often, but it's getting hard for them to justify a villain knowing his weakness.

Maybe they should use magic more this season, it is his only other vulnerability.

I would be all up for that. However invulnerable he is, he's not invincible. I'd love to see some heavy hitters come in that aren't dispatched in a single toss. Some people who actually go toe to toe and fight Clark. Someone who can hurt him, even. Back away from the kryptonite a bit. It was one of the biggest flaws of the first few seasons.

Yeah, they need more people like Titan from Combat...

That was a good fight, the end was a bit trite (falling on his own sword, as it were) but Superman shouldn't kill so that's okay.

The fight was far more dynamic than normal, it wasn't just a shove or a punch and it was over. Clark kicked and punched and jumped and really used his power. It looked like a real fight as opposed to the more usual shoving matches...

Hopefully they'll have more fights like Combat this season!

Something we've been missing from fights like Zod, and even Prototype dude, is that we don't necessarily need lots of fancy flight and heat vision fights and the such, but what would be nice is a little fight choreography. Have some people go toe to toe and rough clark up a bit. There has to be a happy medium between aerial battles and tossing someone.

"Leech" was one of my favorite Season 1 episodes, and while "Onyx" is a classic, I think Rosenbaum's best work might've been in "Shattered"
