Lethal Weapon V

4 ended just fine. I don't know how they can top that ending. I guess there's something potentially interesting about old cops, but I don't know. I'm still gonna watch it though. Curious at least.

Harrison Fold still running his geriatric ass around got them thinking.

the world could use some Riggs and Murtaugh again

and not some crappy tv knock off.

Good thing the knock off on tv isn't crappy then.

milking damn franchise. they will die on set. do studios have no respect for old people.

The studios have no respect for people. Period. They have no respect for anything that isn't profitable.

I worship LETHAL 1&2.

But yeah... I'm too old for this ****.

I'd prefer Lethal Weapon starring Mac, Charlie and Dennis, but I'll wait settle for another Gibson/Glover/Donner joint.

Liked the first 2 Lethal Weapons. Didn't like 3 and can't remember 4. In my mind the franchise ended with Murtaugh holding Riggs in his arms at the end of LW 2.

I like the way 4 ended. When you think about Riggs suicidal tendencies early in the series and how happy and upbeat he was at the end, it was a good arc with everyone together as one big family.

Awesome ending with a song by one of the Beatles to boot.

After previous statements indicating a fifth and final “Lethal Weapon” film was effectively a go barring some scheduling issues, filmmaker Richard Donner is stepping back from the talk – so much so he’s now suggesting the potential sequel might be dead.
Donner has been teasing the project for a few years, but things picked up steam late last year with the fourth film scribe Channing Gibson returning and stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover also said to be “seriously exploring the idea for another entry.”
While appearing on the Maltin On Movies podcast (via ScreenRant), Donner revealed the film was to be titled “Lethal Finale” but negotiations have broken down and problems behind-the-scenes may have effectively scuttled the whole thing:
“I’m ready to do 5. It’s called Lethal Finale. It’s very dark. And we were all set to go and now Warner Bros. is doing their old-fashioned tricks. Not Warner Bros., there’s this guy who runs the studio who’s great but they have these people in the legal department who do the negotiating in the most counter-productive way. They should be sent to a studio and work with the producers and directors and actors, and learn what makes a film, and then negotiate. But it’s just embarrassing. I wanted to end it on an emotional note, and I don’t think it’s gonna happen.”
The original “Lethal Weapon,” penned by Shane Black, remains a classic of the buddy action-comedy genre and the second film is also considered a strong follow-up. Worldwide the series has grossed $955 million across the four films.

Honestly, it's probably for the best.

I'd be damn curious to see it though. No way in hell could Murtaugh still be an officer, he'd basically have to be retired and for the plot to be something a little more personal to have him on some crusade, like rescuing his daughter in the original or the refugees in 4. Guess it's not out of the realm of believability for Riggs to still be working though at his age, upper-brass desk job or something.

Man I would kill to see Shane's version of Lethal Weapon 2 though, "Play Dirty". The bare bones of it sounded the same, South African apartheid guys as the villains and all, but apparently it was really ****ing dark and intense even by the standards of the first one.

Some broad re-working of the themes of that could be cool, obviously have to swap out the Afrikaaners for someone else, re-tool the idea heavily, but keep all the vicious intensity it apparently had. You could finally kill off Riggs as intended too.

But yeah, always been skeptical this'd ever happen. The fourth works as a really nice satisfying send-off anyway, it's not going to be a problem if that's where they leave it. Then again, Rocky Balboa was pretty amazing too and then they came out with Creed, so it's not like a kind-of-unnecessary continuation can't turn out awesome.

I would've liked to see it but finally Glover get's to retire.

Lethal Finale? Yeesh. I'd much prefer to get Shane Black write and direct this film. Though it being dark sounds interesting. For all of Donner's added humor and the intent of Black out of the second film, the third act is the darkest the series ever got, so I can live with that as long as it's not like 3 and 4.

I only go 15 minutes into 4 and am slowly making my way through it. I'm trying. But my God, it feels more like a series of comedy skits in a plot. It's just goofy. This would be fine if it wasn't called Lethal Weapon.

Please no. We don't need another one. Lethal Weapon 4 was a good enough sendoff. Also isn't Murtaugh basically in his 80s at this point? Glover himself is 71. Mel Gibson is in his 60s. His character was also a Vietnam veteran in the first film.

Mel's age works for a Vietnam vet. Tail end of it probably, but the original film was only what, 12/13 years after it ended. Murtaugh served too, probably just a few years earlier than Riggs.

And Glover's only 71? Wow, I'd have pegged him for older. Well, I mean, I could get on board with a 71 year old Murtaugh providing he's long out of the force, retired after 4. It's not like Murtaugh was much of the action guy in the originals either - Murtaugh's the type of guy that would still go do something to save a family member or a kidnapped kid or something to help Riggs or someone close to Riggs.

It's the reasoning/execution that matters, not them being too old in and of itself.

You'd want it darker like the original though, and Riggs'd definitely have go out in a sacrifice play like Black wanted.

#3 is starting to get played out, but not nearly as bad as #4.

#2 is definitely the best one though.
