The first film was pretty gritty.

I mean what action/comedy has a scene like this in it with its lead star?

It being made for HBO Max, I can see them being more hands off in how dark the film gets.

So torn...

I was a huge Mel fan growing up and LW 1)2 are the standards all buddy duo action films are measured by.

But for one... These guys are SO old for this kind of thing. Especially Glover.

And... Can Mel keep his **** together to get this done with no hiccups?

And finally... I really don't know if I would be willing to hand over money to Mel's what, third or fourth "comeback" since he went off the rails publicly and revealed so much about how he thinks...

Yeah this will be a toughy for me to get behind despite adoring the first two films.

If anyone would have told me 10 years ago that we’d be getting new Lethal Weapon and Beverly Hills Cop films, I would have wrote that person off as crazy. Yet, here we are and I for one am looking forward to them

Im looking forward to both but definitely much more excited for Lethal Weapon 5. I've always loved the franchise and felt it was one of the most consistent action series out there.

I was very excited for Beverly Hills Cop IV but that Coming 2 America sequel killed a bit of that excitement to be honest.
I'm on the fence about Lethal Weapon, I thought 4 closed the series in a beautiful way. I wouldn't want a lesser sequel to diminish the legacy.

I'll believe it when I see it. Been wrong before but this is the same "We're working on it and filming soon" update that we hear from countless films. LW5 in particular has been development since 2007. Until it has a release date (because with WB I can't even saying "when it's filming due to stuff like Batgirl" I'm just gonna think they're blowing smoke

I'm kiiiinda interested in Beverly Hills Cop IV but I'm leaning a lot more into the negative side. It's being made by a first time film director and Will Beall (Gangster Squad, Aquaman) isn't the greatest writer. And like you said Coming 2 America didn't go over well. Completely forgot that even came out and that was only a year ago. And on top of all that...it's going to Netflix. Netflix is very very hit or miss for me. So are a lot of studios but I just trust Netflix less. That being said watching at home will be better than watching it in a theater and it being bad

I agree with you though. With Lethal Weapon 4 they had a great ending. It was heartfelt, they already addressed them aging, etc. I don't see what else is there left to say with these characters. And I can't imagine any of the action scenes will be much good with Gibson almost 70 and Glover being almost 80. Cuz even Bad Boys II you could tell Martin Lawrence was struggling with some of the action scenes and he was only mid 50s. Not everyone can be Will Smith, Charlize Theron, Keanu Reeves, and be in great shape into middle age. For sure not into senior citizenship. I just can't imagine Lethal Weapon 5 being that interesting from a story, action, humor (most of the jokes will be 'you kids don't know how it's done' and age jokes I'm sure) perspective.

But hey I thought Top Gun 2 would suck so who knows

I wonder if this will still head to HBO Max or is WB gonna be push for a theatrical release? As much as id want to see this in theaters, I don't think it'd be a good idea.
