Let's Lie to a Kid with Cancer AND Down-Syndrome

This is the worst thread since SentinelMind made one about all tattooed women going to hell or something.

I sense an end-of-year "What was the worst thread of 2013?" competition centered on both these threads. Though, frankly, as presumptuous and stupid as the "moral decay" comments were, I think a thread condemning the parents of a dying child and an actress for giving the dying child a bit of comfort and joy in his final days REALLY takes the cake.

Asteroid, I like you, I do. But, all the same, I do kind of hope you get hit in the nuts at some point soon. :o

He still got to meet Helen Mirren.

Of course, if they had just said he couldn't meet the Queen, maybe he'd have asked to meet somebody cool instead of someone who collects millions of dollars in money from her government by the mere virtue of having been born.

I just find it ridiculous that Presidents of the United States (the actual leaders of their country who run the government and military) can spare the time, but this lady who does nothing all day but sit in a palace when she's not cutting ribbons can't make the time.

Probably by virtue of how they consider themselves in relation to the common people--you can go find the president or a senator or what have you any day of the week, out making speeches or in a public setting, and can arrange a meeting for a sick kid fairly easily at something like that, before or after, or during if it's a meet and greet. It's quite within the realm of possibility because they're public officials. You have to go through some hoops I'm sure regarding security but it's something that can be done.

The queen on the other hand holds herself aloof from the common people, trots herself out for some major events, of course, and will maybe meet with some VERY important people, but is always kept apart and above the citizenry, venerated, etc.

This is why I'm a republican.

Monarchy doesn't belong in the 21st century any more than the plague, or any other vestiges from the Middle Ages.

Course now when I do go back to England I'm gonna be arrested for lese majeste. Eh, worth it.

I'd love to hear what kind of excuse the Royal Press will use for the Queen not to honor a dying boy's wish.
Seriously class act from Helen Mirren for doing this and this really makes the Queen look like a *****ebag.

Hmm... let's see... What possible reason, in this day and age, would the Queen of England, someone who, despite not having the real power she could have in ages past, is pretty influential and important, have for refusing the request of anyone wishing to meet with her in person? Probably not that hard to find a sick kid and, I dunno, strap a bomb to them or something.

Please, for the love of God, tell me you're joking. Someone is going to break into a hospital and strap a bomb to a dying kid with down-syndrome? Yeah, that'd really go unnoticed by the hospital staff and the kid's family. What do you think this is, an episode of Breaking Bad? It'd be easier to snipe the Queen from a rooftop during one of her silly parades than to plant a bomb on a patient in a hospital. I'm sure her refusal has more to do with her not giving a crap than any safety precautions.

The way the media likes to present it, that's a very real possibility. Of course the reality is that only in Hollywood could that actually happen. And England is a long ways from Hollywood.

It sounds like something that would happen on Homeland. :o
