Wonder who will replace him... Ferguson maybe? I love him, but I'd rather they didn't put him in a more high profile position. CBS would probably try to straighten his act out. Whereas being on the Late Late Show means he can basically do whatever he wants, and it's glorious.

He is suppose to be doing this until he dies on his deathbed.

I want to see a female take on the job just to switch up late night tv

I was thinking Ferguson too. A woman wouldn't be a bad switch but I don't know who would be a serious contender to the CBS execs.

I'd appreciate either someone who wasn't a white male.. or someone who wasn't male at all. :o

Everyone has something going on before they take a job like this.

According to Nikki Finke, the only talk show host currently on air (presumably night AND day) that is being considered as a replacement is Colbert.

But all things considered, I don't see him as a real candidate.

I don't see him giving up what he's got in favor of chatting up celebrities and all that ****.

Will they find another Jimmy to replace him?

:o

It should be Craig Ferguson, but I heard long ago that when Letterman leaves, he does too.

Not going to happen. If it's a woman, it might be Ellen, but I don't think she wants to make the move to New York.

There's still no announcement on the when of Letterman's leaving. He could be planning to retire in a year or two or six months from now.
2015. I should've read this report, the other I'd read said no announcement date. :o

I find that hard to believe. It's not like Craig is his sidekick, like Paul Shaffer is.

If Craig moves up, he'll be competing with Jimmy Fallon again.

I can't see CBS giving it to Ferguson. He just isn't a well known commodity. He works for the more niche 12:30 slot, but not so much 11:30. Although, one nuance is, if CBS wants to keep the Late Show brand, they have to keep working with Letterman's production company (as I believe they own the show), so Letterman will get at least some say in his successor. Ferguson's show is also produced by Letterman and I believe the two have a decent work relationship.

I could see Conan being a possibility, though I don't know what his contract with TBS is like.

I personally don't like the idea of giving it to a woman simply for the sake of doing so. Especially when I can think of just about no one who is a good fit (no, Ellen is not a good fit outside of day time TV....these are two very different beasts). I think Conan is probably the best choice, but I'm not sure that he'd leave TBS.

Conan's contract expires in November 2015

Oh i'd be on cloud nine if Conan got it

-Back on a network station
-Back from his "exile" on basic cable TBS

If Conan's contract expires in 2015 then I fully expect CBS to back an armored car up to his front door.

I wonder if Conan would go to CBS. It would be an even bigger finger in the face of NBC if he went to their competitor to fill in for Letterman. I don't watch his TBS show often but when I do he seems comfortable enough in his current spot. Not that it would keep him from going back to the networks.
