Lionsgate purchases Summit Entertainment for $412M

Figured it would happen at some point. Summit pretty much made themselves viable once they acquired Twilight and started hooking up decent budgeted blockbuster type flicks, including Hunger Games.

I'm thinking the money they made on the Saw series helped but some of the money could come from the stock and such. They really bought them to get part of the pie of the Twilight series, even though it got only one movie left before its end.

From the way the press release phrased it, it looks like the Lionsgate acquisition of Summit will function like WB's New Line Cinema subsidiary. It'll be distributed by Lionsgate but with the Summit Entertainment label.

And this is going to eff up Summit's output deal with Showtime (which expires this year) as well as their HBO deal effective next year. I wonder how Lionsgate will untangle the mess, since it, Paramount and MGM own their own movie channel, Epix.

Lionsgate is hoping Summit's marketing team can do wonders for The Hunger Games like it did for Twilight.

Wether that's a good thing or not, I think we're due for a new trailer right about now. Movie comes out in 2 more months!

I guess no one read the part of this buy where lions gate plans to make MORE twilight movies which is why they bought them in the first place. They want to make sequels, reboot, or make a TV series of the franchise, so don't think this is the end of twilight, not with lions gate, now that they plan to milk it.

Doesn't matter. I know for a fact Lionsgate has left the marketing duties to the very same individuals who spearheaded the Twilight campaigns. All with the hope and intent The Hunger Games is close to or just as successful as Twilight.

More Twilight? I hope Stephanie Meyer is getting her lawyers together to see whether Lionsgate could do future sequels/TV spinoffs/reboots without her involvement or not. I would figure she would have a deal like J.K. Rowling's where the studio can only make movies of her books.

If a Summit Logo is at the start of a trailer, I know to skip it. Never has there been a studio that produces a more consistent line of **** than Summit.

I don't think summit had any intention of milking twilight past just making the last book 2 movies and when twilight is over they know the company wouldn't be worth as much so they cashed in.

i doubt we actually get more stupid twilight films. studios will alway make talk of doing more of there big hit thing though who knows if anything will ever happen with them. plus if hunger games is the hit they want they have a whole new twilight like series to milk to the bank on.

I'd rather see the other 2 Hunger Games books made into movies than more ****ing Twilight movies that AREN'T based off the already horrible books! What is Lionsgate THINKING?! This isn't like Saw where it was NOT based off of anything already made.

thats the point i am saying i for one dont give to cents towards twilight or hunger games. But just cause there is only one twilight film left. They dont need to do more films/tv adaptation of them. They can still milk alot out of the last film, and can still do with all the dam merch out there for the other films already. Then like i pointed out if hunger games is a hit like the studio hope there you go another fresh young group you can exploit for x few yrs just like twilight did.
