My brother recently started watching the series, and he said that he could totally picture Keanu as Spike.

Anyway, my opinion? It's going to be one of those "wait and see" kind of things for me. I can picture it working either really well or really poorly.

Keanu reeves is probably going to kill the character, he may have some of his looks but he is a really bad actor and wouldn´t know what to do in the midle of the film.

Keanu looks good for his age but he doesnt looks like 25-30 (Spike's age). Levitt would be a much better choice , he is a fantastic actor and he looks kinda cool.

This is the type of project that will always have problems in the transition between tv to movies. Bebop is a tale told by television rules. Although the majority of the series is self contained stand alone episodes they all "belong together". Its magnificent in form ...this is a show that leaps through genres from episode to episode.

And anything related to Bebop must be scored by The Seatbelts. The music is part of its soul.

I remember thinking JGL would be perfect for Spike while watching (500) Days of Summer. He pretty much has the perfect lanky build, and he can do the humor, the brooding, and the action. Watching his anti-gravity scene in Inception got me so psyched at the possibilities.

i know JGL is a much better choice, but honestly reeves isn't a bad choice. he looks at least 10 years younger than he is; also, while he's not the best actor, he's not as bad as a lot seem to think.

i think he can do the role justice, just not as well as someone like jgl could.

I know I don't like Fox but let me say this: How is it possible to film a movie like JJ's Star Trek and not this?

For God's sakes, someone is making a NEW Judge Dredd movie for a mere 44 Million. It may or may not epic, but it shows that anything can get greenlit if you got the right people who know what they're doing.

But people know he's older than that. It's not just a matter of looks, it's a matter of the impression in the audience's mind when they see an actor in a role. It reminds me of when people defend Kate Bosworth in Superman Returns by pointing out that she looks about the same now, four years later, as she did then.

Probably, I wouldn't be surprised if it inspired him. It and Outlaw Star. The latter's inspiration is rather obvious.

Hopefully any Cowboy Bebop adaption would have better funding than Firefly / Serenity.

Anyway, I always rooted for James Franco to play Spike. JGL is a decent choice too. Much better than Reeves at any rate.

The last big movie Reeves did was Day the Earth Stood Still, which bombed, shortly after Street Kings also underperformed. He's gonna be at least 50 by the time they get around to making the damn thing. By then, the studio might rather gamble on a rising star rather than a fading one.

Can Cowboy Bebop really work as a film? While it was only 26 episodes long it was also very episodic and each episode had its oun plot,

There was an overall arc to the series but it wasn't obvious most of the time. It could easily be done as a trilogy of movies without taking too much away or filling it with extra padding.
