LL On Avengers

So I stumbled on an interview with IGN about The Avengers film and how he would love to do it.

Keep in mind there are spoilers in it.

One noticeable thing that makes me want LL to stay the heck away from any Avengers Film is his ideas for Hulk.

Louis Leterrier: That's why I kept the door open at the end. You know at the end when Edward opens his eyes and he's in control of the Hulk now, he's got somewhat of a malicious look on him. Is he good or is he bad? Has he decided to get vengeance upon this world that has treated him like a monster and recluse for so long? Or is he becoming a hero? And that's what I want to keep the door open for. If it's a Hulk movie, he'll be good. But if it's an Avengers movie, I'd love for Hulk to be what all these guys like Peter David and even Damon Lindelof… with his Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk that they'll never finish, where Hulk is this crazy, man-eating creature that needs to be stopped. And that nothing can stop, except maybe love — his love for Betty. And Betty dying afterward makes him an uncontrollable creature.

Yeah, LL, stick to the Hulk films, if you destroy Avengers and Hulk in one swoop I don't think fans will forgive.

No thanks. Leterrier can stick to the Hulk but I would prefer someone else for the Avengers. I'm not particularly impressed by Leterrier's direction. Maybe my opinion will change after I've seen The Incredible Hulk, but I doubt it.

Exactly. Utlimate Hulk isn't just a ticked off Hulk, he isn't just a rampaging Hulk. When you start traveling into "eating people" territory you've well... crossed the line.

Not to my knowledge? And while I love the Ultimates, the one character I have always hated in the series is..... drum roll please -budda budda buddda buddda- Hulk.

There are aspects of it that I like better than the 616 avengers, ultimate Hulk is not one of them. I'm a massive hulk fan and thought I could love all his incarnations (I'm even starting to like red hulk) but what they did with the character in the ultimate universe was just a slap in the face to all hulk fans out there.

i was thinking they could get all the directors of the solo films together to collaborate on the avengers film. that'd probably end up a huge mess, but if there was a leader organizing them and getting them to do bits that played to their strengths it could be intresting.

How do you market Ultimate Hulk? This character almost was the reason for me to stop reading comics. This was a foolish move by Marvel to take an iconic character and turn him into a cannibal. This pissed me off.

they're an entertaining alternative. it's all fine aslong as 616 still exists.

Not picky at all, Ultimate Hulk in the "Ultimate Avengers" DVD was a blast. Ultimate Hulk Vs. Wolverine was a blast. Ultimate Hulk in the Ultimates though?.... ugh, Cannibalistic rapist is not my idea of a cool alternative.

Besides how do you market that without going into "R-Rated" territory?

Ugh, bad idea. And rather pointless from a storytelling point-of-view.

Big rampaging monster that the team needs to take down: Yeah, that has some story potential. But how does throwing in cannibalistic tendencies add any storytelling value? In my opinion, it doesn’t.

And is he implying that this is what Peter David wants to do to the Hulk? He mentions Peter David and then just sorta “blah, blah, cannibal, blahbitty, French, Hulk.”

The Ultimates 1 and 2 are great reads,and from the looks of it,looks to be the blueprint for the Avengers movie (according to Zak Penn)

I hate EVERYTHING in the Ultimate Universe.

Hopefully, Avengers won't be patterned after anything Ultimates except the costumes. Dumb ass aliens, A-hole Hank Pym and a horny, man eating Hulk are awful material. Although, horny man eating Hulk would make for some interesting toy merchandise. Instead of Hulk Fists, you could strap on something else Hulk sized.

Keep the characters 616 or else.

Marvel isn't stupid. I'm one that hopes they take Ultimate 1 and 2 and use most of the comic as a blueprint, or rather use the art even as the storyboards to an avengers movie. But yes, since they surely want to make more Hulk movies later, there's no way they'll keep the cannibalistic hulk.

However, let's remember that the conflict of Ultimates vs hulk is really just a new re-imagining of the original Avengers vs hulk. Remember they didn't trust each other, and at the very first opportunity, they wanted to bash the Hulk's brain in... and vice versa. This dynamic, maybe like in the original the Hulk is duped into doing a "bad" act and is therefore attacked due to a misunderstanding, maybe that would indeed be a good basis of an Avengers vs Hulk, then Hulk/Avengers versus whoever's the mastermind in the background. Me likes it.

I don't mind them using some stuff from the Ultimate Universe, but if its influence exceeds the 616 influence, I'll be really pissed off.

And turning movie-verse Hulk into an Ultimate like cannibal/monster would negate anything LL has done with TIH. It makes me worry that he would even bring it up.

I've been thinking that for a while, yes it would be a mess, but it be revolutionary.

Oh, I hope not. 616 straight is way too cheesy to enjoy. A blend of the 616 and Ultimate versions would be ideal.

I prefer the ultimate version of shield and Fury but that's about it really, the ultimates are good imo but the avengers are better.

I think he's talking about Ultimate Grey Hulk (Ultimate Green Hulk is a different character but only appeared once technically I believe). I'd love to see Grey Hulk on screen but if suicide was too much for people in this flick how does he think they'd react to the whole cannibal thing in Avengers?

I like both incarnations of Hulk, regular and Ultimate, but even I know there's no way that they'd get away with the Ultimate version. He wants Grey Hulk then he should go ahead but he's gotta keep it 616.
